The Library Is Open presents A Shakespeare Special: The Comedies

To mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, we asked Malaysian stage and screen actors to perform some memorable monologues from The Bard's comedies.

Theatre actor and radio presenter Lim Soon Heng is a member of the Shakespeare Demystified and KL Shakespeare Players groups. Here, he performs Shylock's solo from "The Merchant Of Venice", in which the moneylender reminds us that Jews are just as human as Christians.

Meanwhile, Sandee Chew, also one of the Shakespeare Demystified actors, reads a scene from "Two Gentlemen Of Verona". Her character, Julia, has disguised herself as a messenger boy to Proteus, the man she loves, who has asked the boy to deliver Julia's ring to another woman as a love gift.

Finally, Elza Irdalynna, who has starred in productions like "Madu II" and films including "Ribbit" and "Talentime", and is also the daughter of late actress Azean Irdawaty, takes on Viola's soliloquy from "Twelfth Night". Viola, disguised as a man named Cesario, realises tha
