The bodies of three family members who drowned when their boat capsized off Pulau Perhentian, Besut, on Saturday (June 28) night will be taken home to Butterworth, Penang, and Sungai Petani, Kedah, for their final rites.

00:07Besut on Saturday night will be sent home for final rites, two to Butterworth, Penang,
00:12and one to Sungai Pitani, Kedah.
00:15Dr K. Balachandran, Special Officer for Non-Islamic Affairs to the Trenganumentary Besar, said
00:21post-mortem examinations and necessary formalities for the victims, 40-year-old S. Aramugam,
00:27his three-year-old daughter A. Sarvika and their 10-year-old relative V. Venpani were completed
00:33around 4.30 p.m. Sunday at the Sultana Noor Zahira Hospital HSNZ Forensic Unit in Kuala
00:41Trenganu.
00:43The father and daughter will be laid to rest in Butterworth, while the third victim will
00:48be taken to Sungai Pitani.
00:50A family member said the 15 passengers, comprising four related families, had arrived for a holiday
00:57on Friday and were scheduled to return on Sunday.
01:01According to Dr Balachandran, the family had just finished dinner on Pul Lau Perhentian
01:05Karchil and were en route to Pul Lau Perhentian Barsar when strong waves overturned their boat
01:11at around 10.30 p.m.
01:13The tragedy claimed three lives and left one person critically injured and currently in the
01:18HSNZ intensive care unit.
01:21The tragedy added that surviving passengers and grieving relatives remain deeply traumatised
01:26and have requested privacy.
01:28While they are not ready to speak to the media, they expressed heartfelt gratitude to the agencies
01:34and volunteers who rendered assistance.
