Sweden is modern, tidy and well connected country which offers various enchanting sites and a warm welcome at any time of the year. Stockholm is the obvious place to start, whose heart is a beautiful, compact old town called Gamla Stan. Water and green spaces are abundant everywhere you look. Stockholm is an archipelago of islands, small and large, which are all easily accessible by boat and each offer a unique and sometimes unexpected flavour. Skansen is an open air museum on the island of Djurgården showcasing the many facets of Swedish cultural history as well as a zoo with native animals. Drottningholm is village on an island that's home to the luxurious palace of the Swedish Royal Family; dating back to the 1600s and comes as complete with theatre and museum. A little further north is Sweden's oldest existing permanent settlement, Sigtuna, which and hasn't lost any of its viking era motifs. Second city Gothenburg is popular for its seafood, craft beer and the lively Liseberg Theme Park; Sweden's most popular. Lapland is popular in winter for the Northern Lights and Christmassy character, as well as its open wilderness and pristine lakes.
