Meaning
Bhujanga means a snake in Sanskrit and asana means pose so Bhujangasana in Sanskrit means the Snake Pose.

History
Bhujangasana is a common asana amongst the rishis since ancient times. In fact this pose has travelled a long way down the historical era of yoga and its ancient methods.

Technique

Keeping the hands below the head for comfort bring the toes together.
Now inhale with force and press the abdomen all the time on the floor.
Release the hands and then bring them under the shoulders with the palms on the ground.
Put the forehead on the floor and inhale air and put the head forward.
Now roll ahead and bring the back, neck and head together.
This gives the effect of a snake moving in the back.
Now stretch the back muscles and come out of this pose slowly by working on the back.
Now remain in the pose and then relax.
