Luann de Lesseps, one of the stars of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” reveals how she feels about her 2017 arrest and why she checked herself into rehab.

00:00 Well, I am so I was going to a wedding in Chile.

00:05 Friends of mine were their daughter was getting married in Chile.

00:07 So I planned to go down to fly from Miami.

00:10 And so I checked into the colony to make a long story short.

00:13 I had had rosé at lunch with my girlfriend.

00:17 We split a bottle of Whispering Angel, which is normal.

00:20 And then there was some people there that were fans.

00:22 So they sent me more rosé. So I drank more than I usually would.

00:27 Then we went to Julie's and on the way we stop and have not one martini, but two.

00:34 So by the time I get back to the colony, I was pretty sloshed.

00:37 And and then I don't know. I got to tell you Dr.

00:41 Oz. It's not something that I you know, that's kind of a regular kind of thing.

00:44 You know what I mean in terms of the drinking path that I was on.

00:48 So I almost think that somebody slipped me something

00:50 because I don't remember a thing after that.

00:53 I really don't a lot of what I know is recounted to me

00:57 because I was with a male friend of mine who I was dating before I met Tom.

01:02 And he hadn't been drinking and he told me exactly what happened.

01:05 So apparently I was being loud in the jazz club. They asked me to leave.

01:09 So I go, okay, fine. And I go up to my room with and Julie's with me as well.

01:12 So Julie stays at the bar gives me privacy.

01:15 There's a knock at the door. It's security. You're in the wrong room.

01:18 Are you by yourself in the know? I'm with the gentleman. You're in the wrong room.

01:22 I said, no, I'm not. This is my room.

01:25 So the guy goes, is this your room? I said, yeah, of course is my room.

01:28 He goes, is that your Blackberry? I said, of course, it's my Blackberry.

01:30 I don't own a Blackberry. Oh, that's really a mess.

01:34 So so anyway. So now the security is telling me I have to leave and I said, no, it's my room.

01:43 I was an admit that it was my room. Don't ask me why, but I was.

01:47 And so they called the police. So then he got nervous.

01:50 He got very nervous for me. He went down to to get Julie.

01:56 And by the time he got he got back, I was in handcuffs.

02:01 It's just the craziest thing. If one thing it was like the perfect storm,

02:04 if one thing had gone differently, I probably it probably would not have happened to me.

02:08 But I'm well, I will get to that. But I'm glad it did, because it was a major wake up call for me.

02:14 So you were charged with battery on an officer disorderly.

02:17 You know, disorderly, that's for sure. Intoxication. Totally.

02:22 Resisting arrest. Yes, it's all true.

02:25 It's ridiculous, but it's true. And I feel so terrible because it's so not me.

02:30 You know, I've been on the show for 10 years. Dr.

02:32 As you know me, you see me socially. I mean, I took a tumble in Mexico.

02:36 That's why I was happy. I took a tumble on tequila.

02:43 But yeah, I it's not me. You know, I'm a nurse.

02:47 I did a fundraiser for the Red Cross. I just can't believe it.

02:51 But you know, it was a major wake up call for me that I was in a position.

02:57 Where I treated someone like a police officer.

02:59 Where I have the most utmost respect for, you know, that way is just.

03:05 I'm beside myself. I'm horrified. I'm embarrassed.

03:09 I'm, you know, ashamed, you know, it's it was to,

03:14 you know, be thrown in jail was just the most horrifying thing that's ever happened to me.

03:20 And I could there was, you know, to be totally out of control like that

03:24 and not be able to hand yourself. That's when I said, you know what?

03:29 I need to go to to rehab and take care of myself.

03:32 And I just had for me personally. I had no choice.

03:35 It was like, you know what you're doing this. I knew I was on a highway to hell.

03:40 I knew I was and I even say it on the show.

03:42 I'm talking to Bethany and Asina and I said, you know, I think I need to go to a spa

03:46 and she was talking to me about going to a spa and it comes up

03:49 and because you know, I was just drinking too much

03:51 and I was using it really to self-medicate and not really looking or dealing with my emotions.

03:58 So let's talk about this a little bit. So this is your Twitter apology.

04:02 This is the first time in Palm Beach since my wedding

04:05 and being here brought up long buried emotions.

04:08 I want to offer my sincere apologies to anyone. I may have offended with my behavior.

04:11 I'm committed to a transformative and hopeful 2018.

04:14 The person was very self-aware. I must commend you that you wrote this this Twitter post

04:20 because most people won't acknowledge long buried emotions as a root cause of a problem.

04:24 Yes, yours weren't even buried that long.

04:27 Well, I had a lot of burials. I mean, you know, my first marriage was a killer for me.

04:32 I checked I checked into Deepak Chopra for two weeks after the end of my first marriage,

04:36 which was devastating for me devastating never got over that really

04:40 and and then what else hmm? There was a car accident.

04:47 I tumbled down a mountainside with the two children in the car in Switzerland,

04:51 and I thought I killed myself and my children. I really did.

04:53 I thought I was going to be dead. It was really rough.

05:00 I'm sorry. I need a Kleenex now.

05:05 And then best I can do such a gentleman and then and then I think you know,

05:16 the this last thing just did it for me.

05:19 I just cracked. I just cracked. I don't know how what happened.

05:23 I just cracked and but it's all good now.

05:31 I want to thank you for being honest because the biggest lies we tell the ones we tell ourselves.

05:37 Yeah, and the fact that you can get it all out is a big first step.
