Moon to hold phone dialogue with Biden soon; S. Korean FM makes Biden contacts

South Korea's Blue House says Seoul and Washington are in the process of firming up the very first phone talks between President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President-elect Joe Biden some time tomorrow.
Arirang's foreign affairs correspondent Yoon Jung-min joins us live for details.
Jungmin, President Moon has an array of issues to discuss with the new leader coming into the Oval Office in January. It's important that the two leaders get off on the right foot.
What do your sources say?
Conn-young, they say Seoul is coordinating with Washington on the schedule,... and that it's likely to be Thursday.
Moon has already congratulated Biden on Twitter and in comments in a Blue House meeting,... but if they do speak tomorrow,... it will be their first OFFICIAL communication.
Moon and Biden are likely to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the Korean peace process.
Also likely to be on the agenda are issues related to the Seoul-Washington alliance, including economic cooperation,... as well as tackling the COVID-19 pandemic together.
Moon earlier said that he will communicate closely with the Joe Biden camp on various fronts... and will make sure there is no break in the Korean Peninsula peace process.
President Moon held a luncheon meeting today with senior foreign affairs advisors at the Blue House,... including national security advisor Chung Eui-yong, as well as scholars from academia.
They discussed foreign policy in light of changes coming under a new U.S. administration.
The agenda included Seoul-Washington cooperation for democracy and peace,... working together against the COVID-19 pandemic,... and the Korean peace process.
Also today, the President made a statement on social media to honor the UN veterans of the Korean War,... marking the International Memorial Day for UN Korean War Veterans.
Biden too is known to have honored Korean War veterans earlier this year by laying a wreath at a memorial in Delaware.
Meanwhile, we're hearing that Seoul's foreign minister Kang Kyung-hwa raised the need for U.S. President-elect Joe Biden's administration to pay "summit-level" attention to reopen denuclearization talks with North Korea during meetings in the United States this week.
What can you tell us about that?
Right. Foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha met in Washington with lawmakers close to Joe Biden.
There, she stressed the importance of Pyeongyang and Washington resuming talks at an early date.
She emphasized that North Korea and the U.S. should give priority to dialogue at the summit level.
Kang said she met on Tuesday with Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat and a long-time Biden ally.
Some U.S. media say Coons has been floated as a candidate for Secretary of State.
Kang also met virtually with Senator Chris Murphy.
And she met with the the president of the Brookings Institution, John Allen...
