On the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue meeting in Singapore,... the defense chiefs of South Korea and Japan... met for the first time in eight months on Saturday.
Seoul's defense ministry said the two sides agreed to hold working-level talks... to address the issue concerning Tokyo's allegations... that a South Korean warship had locked its radar onto a Japanese maritime patrol aircraft in late 2018.
The Seoul government has strongly denied these accusations.
Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo stressed the need to abide by international laws,... including the 2014 Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea.
"Rather than focus on which side is to blame, we've agreed to closely cooperate to prevent the recurrence of such an incident."
They also exchanged views on strengthening security in Northeast Asia,... emphasizing the two countries' cooperation on achieving the denuclearization of the peninsula.
The defense ministers of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are also holding trilateral talks on Sunday.
