00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name is Theo Hewson-Betz and this is your transport update for the week.
00:05Now we're going to start with the Salford Roads that are getting new CCTV cameras in an attempt to better catch road-based rule breakers.
00:12The cameras have been set up to try and clamp down on drivers, making banned turns, blocking yellow boxes or roaming into areas where cyclists could be hit.
00:19The move was the focus of discussion earlier this week, with some critics calling it an attempt to raise funds by punishing drivers.
00:25However, the council responded stating that the purpose was to improve the flow of traffic.
00:29Now here are the streets that you'll need to be aware of.
00:32Chapel Street onto Trinity Way, Regent Road onto Oldfield Road, Chorley Road onto the Civic Centre, Chapel Street slash Oldfield Road slash Adelphi Street, Irwell Street onto Trinity Way, Blackfriars Street and Blackfriars Road onto the Silk Street.
00:47So for drivers who frequents Salford, please be safe, please be aware and please be careful.
00:51On to buses now, and transport bosses have confirmed that Friday, August 1st is the start of a new era of bus travel for people with the old persons or disabled persons bus pass.
01:01Up to now, those passes have only been able to be used after 9.30am during weekdays to try and manage the rush hour buses, but that's now been scrapped, which will allow older and disabled passengers much more freedom of movement in the mornings.
01:11It is just a trial, however, and will be assessed for its effectiveness in September, so please make sure you're taking advantage while it's here if you want to ensure that it continues into the future.
01:21Finally, Manchester Airport's Terminal 2 departure lounge is now open as the airport continues its 10-year transformation plan.
01:27There are a host of wonderful shops and the capacity has increased massively, which is important considering that Terminal 1 is set to close later this year, meaning that more than 70% of the airport's passengers were used Terminal 2.
01:38So if you're flying from there, you should be able to get a good look around.
01:41But that's all for now.
01:42Follow Manchester World for more and we'll see you again next week.
