00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Bett and today we're walking down this weird-looking side alley in the northern quarter to continue our search for the best coffee and cakes places here in the city of Manchester because just off Stephenson Square, just down this little road, is Campanio, a local bakery chain that started in Ancote back in 2015.
00:20The current owners took it over in 2019 and have turned it into what it is today, which is an amazing bakery with brilliant bread, brilliant pastries and top quality coffee too. So we're going to go in, have a little try of some of their offerings and talk a bit more about the business.
00:32So here we are now outside of Campanio and as you can see they've got a brilliant range of awesome baked goods. Now the business initially was set up in Ancote, this is obviously their northern quarter branch and it's a delightful little place full of natural life and it's just out of the way enough that it's never too busy.
00:49Either you have a constant stream of people coming in for takeaway coffees and takeaway cakes, but generally there's time to sit down and relax.
00:55The current owners, Bonetta, Neil and Phil, who bought the place in 2019, all studied together at a culinary school over in Nottingham and when they bought this place they decided that it was the perfect opportunity to try and find proper artisan ways of creating top quality food and that's exactly what this is.
01:12So the pastry is really flaky and really crisp on the outside and then really really soft and buttery and rich in the middle.
01:20And on the coffee front unfortunately I ordered this and then it suddenly turned cold, welcome to Manchester, but they do a great range of cold brews and filter coffees too, which mean that you can literally show up, get your coffee and be out at the door within about a minute.
01:34It's a really convenient way of operating and it does make this a really convenient place to pop in on your way to the office or on the way to the train station.
01:42Now, this being a bakery, there is naturally a bit of an ethos behind it and that's because they're dedicated to real bread, which is an artisan way of looking at bread making, basically which says that there are four key ingredients.
01:52We're talking flour, water, salt and yeast. Anything other than that, unnatural additives should be cut out from the making process and it's completely unnecessary and that's the way that they operate.
02:03So on top of making brilliant treats, brilliant bread, brilliant coffee. So this place really is dedicated to ethics as well. It tries to find the best ways, the best ways for nature, the best ways for people to make these top, top quality products and it distributes them brilliantly.
02:19It says a lot about Campanio's popularity that recently they put out a line of tote bags and caps with local cap company, local. There inside, they look top quality and that collaboration says everything to us.
02:31Here at Manchester World, we're all about trying to promote local businesses, local companies with a message and who delivered that message well and Campanio and local too are perfect examples of that.
02:42So for now, I'm going to go. I'm going to enjoy this croissant in peace and quiet. I'm going to suggest to you, come down to Campanio, make the most of it, get down in the morning.
02:50I guarantee you will not regret it and follow Manchester World for more. Thank you very much.
