00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. This is your travel news for the week beginning
00:04the 23rd of December 2024.
00:06Firstly, public transport times. I said this in a video last week, I'm going to repeat
00:09it just so that you know.
00:10On Christmas Eve, tram services start at the normal 6am but end before 9pm. Buses will
00:15be stopping between 6pm and 9pm.
00:17On Christmas Day, there will be no trams at all and the only bus running will be the Stagecoach
00:21service 43.
00:22On Boxing Day, tram services will operate between 7am and 1am, with services running
00:26every 15 minutes until midnight, and every half hour after midnight until 1am.
00:31Special bus services will be running, but it's worth checking the website to be sure
00:35on exactly which services and exactly what times.
00:37There aren't set to be any major changes to the regular schedule on the 28th, 29th
00:41or 30th.
00:42But on New Year's Eve, an amended tram schedule will see services run every 12 minutes between
00:466am and 1am, while buses will be largely unchanged, with the exception of a few that will stop
00:50running at 6pm.
00:51On New Year's Day, special buses will be running on a few services, so again it's
00:55worth checking the B network schedule for that.
00:57As for trains, Northern Rail are running a normal service on the 23rd, have warned that
01:00there may be no disruption on the 24th, but there are no trains on Christmas or Boxing
01:05Day.
01:06Disruption is then definitely expected right up to the 1st of January, with the exception
01:09of the 30th of December.
01:10There's a lot of news about trains this week, so we'll stick with the topic for
01:13a little bit.
01:14Manchester Victoria has been found to be the worst hit station in the country for cancellations
01:17across 2024, with 9.5% of all scheduled stops cancelled.
01:22Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly were also in the top 5, with cancelled stops
01:26of 8.1% and 6.7% respectively.
01:29Following on from this information, combined with the public transport difficulties that
01:32so many have faced in Manchester over the festive period, Andy Burnham has been prompted
01:36to launch an honest review in mid-January on the state of Manchester's public transport
01:40links, with the goal of further reducing the number of people who drive into the area by
01:44increasing the amount of services offered.
01:46Finally, Avanti West Coast staff are striking on New Year's Eve after more than 80% of
01:50RMT members rejected the latest pay offer from the company.
01:52It's likely to cause significant disruption on the day, so be sure to plan your journeys
01:57accordingly.
