Here are some of the biggest travel stories across Greater Manchester this week, with stories of a returning bus route and new roads to Sheffield.
Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Betz and this video is your transport roundup for the week.
00:05There's lots and lots to get into, so let's get started.
00:08We're going to start with some very good news for the locals of Middleton.
00:11There had been some disappointment and outrage recently after traffic bosses removed a section of the 125 bus route
00:18that saw it cover Night Crescent and the Silver Birch Estate.
00:21The 125 is the only bus that serves Birch and Hopwood and so it plays a vital role in providing residents with access to public transport.
00:27The removal of the stop at Night Crescent left locals with a 15-minute walk to the nearest stop
00:32but after protests and feedback, Transport for Grey and Manchester have reintroduced the stops to the route.
00:38It's a pretty good example actually of a mistake being made and those at the top being willing to listen to feedback.
00:43So well done to all those who made their feelings known.
00:47We're back on to Stockport now as their way for a Metrolink stock goes on.
00:50Mark Roberts, the new Stockport Council leader, has called for actions rather than words.
00:54Now there have been talks of tying Stockport into the Metrolink for years now
00:57and plans have been mooted to add a stop onto the East Didsbury line.
01:01Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has suggested that he's completely on board with the idea in the past
01:06and Transport for Greater Manchester last year said that they're creating a business plan for expansion into Stockport
01:11which should be ready by September.
01:13Indeed, contracts have been awarded already for design, modelling and the appraisal of the construction work.
01:18Finally, work has started on the Mottram Bypass, a piece of road that's been mooted for 60 years now.
01:25It should make it infinitely easier to travel to Manchester and Sheffield
01:28and although it will still be a good chunk of time before work is completed, likely up to 2028,
01:33when it is ready, all will reap the benefits of a much, much easier route into Sheffield from the city.
01:39That's all for now. Thank you very much for watching and follow Manchester World for more.
01:43See you again soon.
