Hello and welcome to Manchester's transport update for the week. We'll start off with
00:04
the snow that's adorning the tops of the building behind me. The temperatures have
00:08
dropped and winter is here. Now unfortunately that does seem to be wreaking havoc on the
00:12
transport links. It snowed overnight and is expected to snow and sleet a little bit later
00:18
today which could result in dangerous driving conditions as well as significant disruption
00:23
to public buses, trams and trains. Roads and pathways are being cleared and treated with
00:27
grit and salt to make them safer but please do use caution regardless of how you choose
00:32
to get around. On to some nicer public transport news though and TransPennine Express have
00:37
announced that they're going to be introducing an extra 1,300 seats to their services next
00:42
month with four express trains per hour running between Manchester Victoria and Leeds. Now
00:47
that will come into place on December 15th which is when the new timetable kicks in.
00:53
On top of that, 50 trains will be running each way every day between Liverpool and Manchester
00:57
stations which should allow travellers to get between the two cities much more efficiently
01:02
and there's a great Christmas market in Liverpool too so you could maybe even tick off both
01:06
markets in one day. On to buses now and there are plans for a new and improved X50 service
01:12
which will link Salford Quays to the city centre. The X50 is the bus that runs towards
01:17
the Trafford Centre and it will mean taking a new route along Audsor Lane with £2 million
01:22
offered up by the council to get the service up and running as well as upgrading local
01:25
roads around the area. Finally, it's looking as though we will have two new train stations
01:34
in Greater Manchester by 2030. Mossley station is set to move 300 metres down the road to
01:38
allow for accessibility improvements and a longer platform while similar upgrades are
01:42
also due for the Greenfield station. Network Rail are hoping to push through their plans
01:47
and see building work start by the summer of 2028 but as of yet, relevant planning permissions
01:52
have not yet been confirmed. That's all for this week, please stay safe out there and
01:56
enjoy the snow.
