00:00we're gonna kind of we'll do our best here oh look at those shoes those are sick can i just say
00:04thanks for having us are you kidding thank you for being here okay and here's the other thing
00:08we're putting up we're a band with like that's been removed from culture for 15 years and so
00:15we sit at k-rock to talk to any to talk in this mic is like what the fuck oh my god are you getting
00:21this okay do i talk into i want to talk just put it in my ass and it'll smell like potpourri i
00:28swear to christ because i'm i'm full of flowers right now so here's the thing though as i know
00:33that you guys are super excited to be sitting here with k-rock but do you realize how much you are
00:38blowing up again right now it's crazy i say we we're in a snow globe right when we play shows
00:47people don't people don't realize that you're in a submarine you don't watch tv because you don't
00:52have fucking time you yes you have a four month old there's four four a week old so there's that
00:58so i'm just like not sleeping i'm not watching shit i'm just basically burping and like writing
01:03music so we can finish this fucking record by in time so we're like we're i think we're in a healthy
01:10removed place to understand that something is happening but also we're kind of connected to each
01:17other enough to not like let it be like whoa yes because it could easily just feel like whoa oh
01:22for sure but we've talked about that being in your 40s helps yeah i know well because you just stop
01:28caring about everything yeah oh yeah you know i'm on my way you guys yeah the things you care about
01:33it's a lot smaller you got tons of time 38 and 40 is like two decades is it oh don't tell me that
01:39sorry sorry sorry speaking of 40 43 okay oh shoot oh shoot so here's the thing i've just been
01:49seeing nothing but all american rejects on my social media you guys was it usc or ucla that you
01:55showed up usc usc you show up kevin lyman's students no promoted that fucking show oh my god
02:03isn't that fucking crazy founder of warp tour you're the best you're a g so what was the first
02:11was that the first one you guys did yeah we played this we played this classic la pop-up right you're
02:19gonna play a place called no vacancy beautiful place right it's an old 1900s house it had all the
02:25markings of this should be cool but the guest list was full of la types music supervisors
02:33publishers publishers people that honestly did not want to fucking be there it's a cool guy fest
02:39right right right so everyone's just standing there just staring at you so we hedged the bet
02:44by reaching out to the local college radio station and saying let's play that the next day in case this
02:50thing is a fucking stiff it was a stiff the next night we play we played uh we played usc and we were
02:59eye level with these kids and i saw there's this is the moment to me it's like i saw the them lift up
03:07this kid who i saw in his eyes when he reached above the shoulders that he had never crowd surfed before
03:12and there were two 40s in the air next to him and i saw the veil lift and i said this is like this is
03:22this is it man this is like we're tap we tapped into something for this kid and the next day i called
03:29meg and she was the one meg our manager was the one who like had this idea and i said here's a gap
03:35before my wife has a baby it was two weeks we had an option to take 50 grand is what we pulled of our
03:43money right which is not nothing but in the scope of tiktok it is very much nothing and they do these
03:49things now what major labels do these things called creator buys which is where they program
03:54you to love music by the way it's like it's like why you watch ridiculousness 24 7 on mtv
04:00because it just is that's all there is so we were either going to do 50 grand of creator buys which
04:08most major labels to break us home they spend like two million dollars right so we were going to either
04:12bark into a vacuum or take that 50 grand and put it on the road and and get it eye level with our
04:18fans and show them that we we got new music and and that's what we did it's been so incredible i
04:25think that honestly this is the way this is what is needed right now and you know it's like i'll never
04:31forget being in high school and going to those smaller shows you know at the glass house and
04:36crowd surfing for the kimona for my first time it was taking back sunday and the use my first time
04:41ever crowds are you never forget that moment and having those intimate experiences with the bands that
04:47you love i mean i've been my first time crowd surfing was with sponge oh my god alice and shane's for me
04:53nice yeah i've never crowd surfed you've never grown what okay maybe today's your day
05:00and what about you warp tour where who our show oh my oh what okay you jumped down in the crowd
05:09wow that's an experience i was 18 that's incredible so um you guys are obviously working
05:17on a new album like you started trying to get it all finished up how's that going fucking so fun
05:23it's so much fun we were we were jamming on it yesterday and i i just
05:28let nick say so okay well what's funny is that you asked that question and i instinctively kind of
05:38like like like tensed up yeah because like we've been toying with the idea of maybe making new music
05:46for a while now but now it's been almost a year that we've just been really excited working on tunes
05:51and we haven't really got to say much about it so yeah we got over half a record done and
05:58we're fucking pumped yeah i'm so excited and we haven't we haven't been excited about making music
06:04in a very long time that's why we haven't made music in a very long time well you have to do it
06:08when you're feeling like it's right you don't want it to be forced it's not just that when when you have
06:13a legacy that started when you were in your huggies it's not just about feeling what it's right it's
06:20well what is right because that was somebody else every time nick and i talk about something about
06:26that that band i talk i remove myself from him not not because i don't love him it's because i love
06:36him that i don't put him on me i every time i go dude can you believe those guys did that shit for us
06:41like i talk about this band about i talk about them because because what we are now is is we have a
06:49lived experience and your your first record the whole adage is you have your first you have your
06:54whole life to write your first record and everybody goes and then what well then you're in the system
07:01then a major label owns you and he's stepping on your neck going come on sonny put it out
07:06and that's a cautionary tale for most people one hit wonders happens because
07:11the hit knocks them out of their place as a creative and it happened it's a tragic story
07:18that is written very many times so what happens to those who actually make it out alive
07:24maybe they find themselves or maybe they can they fuck off and completely abandon their audience
07:29because they you know what they want billy squire wanted to play blues cindy lopper did the same
07:34shit she sang like jazz shit and like go fucking cindy but her fans are like come on girls just want to
07:40have fun like our fans probably go man i just want to move along well if you want to move along
07:46if you want to move along then you should move along with us and if you don't want to guess what
07:50that's there for you in that time capsule that you have frozen us in for yourself
07:55but what but as far as the new shit i hope you want a free-form jazz odyssey
08:02get ready for a real treat
08:06it's like with this new song easy come easy go people are kind of telling us oh it sounds like
08:12you guys and i go i don't think this sounds like fucking us but but it is us because what we do is
08:18us but this is new shit this is this this feels different this tastes to us this tastes so good to
08:26be able to swallow up on stage um so we're we're we're vibrant in this new shit i'm really excited
08:34to hear the new album i mean you guys i'm just happy that you're doing what feels right for you
08:39i think that's incredible you know like fuck it you know and the expectation i do want to talk about
08:46warp tour 30th anniversary do you have any warp tour memories um and what does it mean to be here
08:52you know more more memories than we can count or look back on i think uh we played what was
08:59supposedly the last warp tour um i think in 2018 2019 okay um we played the last song which is a
09:06song of ours that ends the first record we we rarely play anymore but we pulled it out for that because
09:11we played it on the warp tour so many times and i do remember like tearing up a little bit it's like
09:15oh it's the last warp tour but now here we are yep and the metaphor the metaphor i've come up with is
09:22it's like woodstock 94 you know what i mean it's like it's the same name but it's just not the 60s
09:29anymore man you know what i mean so so here we are playing warp tour's 30th anniversary there's a
09:37bigger stage there's lots of lights which warp tour never used to have there's the same long ass line
09:42of catering but i do there's a dude over there vaping who's painted entirely yellow yeah yeah i saw
09:49him like doc brown doc brown with jaundice but i do get to go to a hotel that's funny i do i do get to
09:57go to a hotel and take a shower without flip-flops and not wait in line for that that's good that's a
10:03bonus you know um i mean i was going to see you guys in pomona at the fairplex back in the day that
10:09was you know that was dirty there was a lot of there was a lot of dirt going on you know this is
10:14really nice for this is push in comparison this is it really is but good for them because it shows
10:20what they built like look totally when we were young year one backstage was empty nobody was hanging
10:26out this is different this is kush like that but this is realized this is warp tour because kevin
10:33shelley kate truscott all those crowd all those people that built this with kevin are still here
10:41and people don't realize that kevin is surrounded by a coven of magical witches and i think that's
10:50something that people don't realize about punk rock man punk rock is it's it's a mindset in
10:56whatever setting it is right like it's it actually is the most acceptant culture in music
11:03like and always has been i was talking to meg about this the other day i was like
11:07like yeah there's bands that probably like change that perspective in punk rock but the culture itself
11:14was rooted in acceptance without giving a fuck so warp tour still warp tour even with the fucking
11:21gold teeth she deserves it she deserves she earned it absolutely the vibes the vibes have been really
11:29good today you know what i mean it feels great you guys are headlining how about that we're playing
11:35last you guys are playing last no headliner warp tour you guys are headlining tonight we're playing
11:41last that is what that is there was never a headliner at warp tour you had to go down to the t's on the
11:48poster to find us we're the all-american rejects on like the third to last line it was in alphabetical
11:54order okay same size font yeah but it's democratic it's fucking it's a it's true it is warp tour to not
12:01headline so everybody i saw those cats like saying i'm headlining it's like okay i know but yeah but
12:06you play last yeah and you're lucky to do it when when kevin picked you which is what he did this
12:11morning we didn't know we were playing last god till they till she sent us a picture and i started
12:17bawling oh my god and my wife called me he did i was driving us down here and it's happening again
12:23it's happening again well you guys i love you i've loved you since high school and i'm super excited
12:29i'm really excited to watch you guys play tonight so thank you so much all american rejects and thank you
12:35kevin lyman yes kevin lyman and thank you kevin weatherly yes for putting swing swing on this
12:41fucking station when i was when we were in tulsa and they said let's throw him in a cage match and we
12:49won and he liked it and without kevin weatherly we wouldn't have gotten flown around by sylvia roan
12:56and donnie einer trying to court our young asses into signing a big record deal and we owe we owe
13:05we owe our career to to fucking we owe the start of this career to fucking k-rock and warp tours so
13:10here we go thank you so much all american rejects yeah
