Transcript
00:00Hi, you guys. How you doing?
00:03Yeah.
00:04I want to welcome you to the Helpful Honda Sound Space.
00:07I'm Megan Holiday.
00:08Do you guys know that Wet Leg are here?
00:10Are you excited for this?
00:11Come on, make it louder.
00:14That's what I'm talking about.
00:16So what's going to happen is we're going to have a little chat,
00:19and then they're going to play some songs for you.
00:21So how about we bring them out right now?
00:23What do you think? Yeah?
00:24All right.
00:25Please welcome Wet Leg.
00:30All right, Rhianne and Ellis.
00:49Welcome to the Helpful Honda Sound Space.
00:51How are you guys doing?
00:53Yeah, good.
00:54So you guys, you played a little club show last night here in L.A.
00:58Who was there last night?
01:00Yeah.
01:01Awesome.
01:02So how did it feel to be back up on stage playing again?
01:08Yeah, it's been really good.
01:10We've been away for so long now.
01:13How many years has it been since you've performed?
01:18Well, and you did a show in New York, too.
01:20Yeah, I think we've had almost a year off, I think.
01:23Okay, yeah.
01:24Which can feel like an eternity in band world.
01:27So obviously when you guys put out your self-titled, it was massive, you know,
01:33and Shays Long was everywhere.
01:35You won Grammy Awards.
01:37You opened for Harry Styles.
01:39So while this was all going on, was it overwhelming or were you enjoying the ride?
01:46Yeah, it was pretty overwhelming, but, like, we were so new to it all and so naive that you
01:55just kind of would, like, take one step and then take another step.
02:00Yeah, it was mad.
02:02Yeah, right?
02:02Was there ever a moment where maybe at the Grammys or maybe backstage at Harry Styles where
02:08there was a celebrity or a musician where you met them and you just could not believe
02:13that you were face-to-face?
02:15Every time I'm face-to-face with Ellis, I'm just in awe.
02:19Oh, my gosh.
02:20I can't help it.
02:21I don't know what that is, Rianne.
02:23That's how I feel, too.
02:25But no, never any celebrity interactions?
02:28Um, we did end up at a, we went to, like, a Grammys party and Paul McCartney was there
02:36and we got to say hello to him.
02:39That was pretty crazy.
02:40Okay.
02:41That should have been the first thing that you guys said.
02:43Yeah.
02:44I'm a Beatles freak, so I have Beatles stuff all over my house, so I would have passed
02:48out.
02:49I definitely would have passed out.
02:49It was pretty wild, yeah.
02:51That's amazing.
02:52You should have asked him to do a collab, you know?
02:55Hey, Paul, come on, you know?
02:58Um, so I feel like we should talk about when you guys, you know, you put out this Instagram
03:04post, there was a photo, and you said, we're back.
03:08So I think if we can take a look at Exhibit A.
03:12So here we have the band Wetleg, surrounded by some stuffed animals and a goblin in the
03:21middle, I suppose?
03:22A goblin?
03:23That's your dad.
03:24Okay.
03:26That's your dad?
03:28Oh, my God.
03:30Okay.
03:31So can we talk about, could you, yeah, just give me a little background about this, with
03:36this photo.
03:39Um, I don't really know what the vibe is with this photo.
03:43It's mixed messaging.
03:45Yeah.
03:45Yeah.
03:46It's probably the point.
03:47I'm not sure.
03:48So, but the goblin is actually our tour manager, Steve, and he took one for the team and became
03:57a goblin for us.
03:58Yeah, Steve.
03:59Give it up for Steve, everybody.
04:00Oh, yeah.
04:01Woo!
04:02Steve is a legend.
04:04I know it's kind of mixed messaging because it's, you know, it's warm and fuzzy and, you
04:08know, oh, innocence, and then it's a goblin, you know, but, um, but it's very on brand
04:13for Wetleg.
04:13Um, so say there were, there was a goblin apocalypse that happened.
04:20Who in the band would be the first to get eaten?
04:24And who would be in the band would be the survivalist and the one to, to make it till
04:29the end?
04:29I think Henry would be the survivalist, but I think he'd get too cocky and he would probably
04:40be eaten.
04:41And then I think Josh would survive because he'd just sleep through it all.
04:46That's so true.
04:47Josh can literally sleep through anything.
04:49He can sleep anywhere.
04:51He could just find a cave and kind of hide out.
04:53We'll like wait for it to pass.
04:54Yeah.
04:55Literally.
04:56Yeah.
04:56That's a good point.
04:56Who would be the first to get eaten though?
04:59Rianne, would it be you?
05:01I would say it might be me.
05:04I just like, I don't know.
05:06My fight or flight is a bit.
05:10It's questionable.
05:12Yeah.
05:12I don't know how well I deal with like stressful situations.
05:17Um, and.
05:19Well, I think that you're doing really great.
05:23I mean, I saw your performance on Fallon.
05:25And Fallon, did you guys, did you guys see that?
05:28I mean, from the looks of you on stage on Fallon, first of all, you're ripped right
05:33now.
05:34You're flexing your muscles.
05:36You look so good.
05:37I mean, your, your song is called catch these fists, right?
05:39So I think you might be able to kick some ass.
05:42If you went into wet leg mode during that, I feel like you'd, you'd be able to kick some
05:48goblin ass.
05:48I hope so.
05:49I don't know.
05:50Have you ever tried to punch anyone before?
05:52It's actually like.
05:53Maybe back in my drinking days.
05:55Yeah.
05:55Yes.
05:56I want to say yes to that, but I didn't feel it.
05:59So yeah, it was fine.
06:02Um, but let's talk about your new single catch these fists.
06:05So good.
06:06Right.
06:07So good.
06:08Um, so tell us how this song come about, what was the inspiration behind it?
06:14Sort of, to me, feels like kind of being sick of dudes hitting on you and just being really
06:19annoyed with that.
06:20Yeah.
06:22Yeah.
06:23Woo.
06:24Um, yeah, it was funny actually, cause we had like the whole, like we had like so many
06:29songs like written and like, we were like kind of like ready to like, okay, shall we like
06:35record them now?
06:37And it just kind of like slipped on in there at the end.
06:40It was probably, I think it was the last song that we.
06:43I think so.
06:44Yeah.
06:44It probably was the last one.
06:47Yeah.
06:47Um, I don't really know how it happened.
06:50It just kind of birthed.
06:53It happens a lot with bands where I'll talk to them and it'll be this song that they didn't
06:58think they were going to put on the album.
07:00And then that's the one that ends up being the single and the big hit, you know?
07:04So it's good instincts that you, you put it on there.
07:08Yes.
07:08So the new album, Moisturizer coming out July 11th, you guys, Moisturizer.
07:17So just tell us a bit about, you know, the making of this album.
07:23Um, and I also would love to know why it is called Moisturizer as well.
07:28The making of the album.
07:30What did we do?
07:32We.
07:32Where'd you guys record it?
07:35We recorded in, uh, Brighton in England.
07:38Oh, cool.
07:39And a little bit in London as well.
07:41Um, with Dan Carey, our producer.
07:45Um, yeah, I don't know.
07:48I think it was nice going back in with Dan because that's who we recorded the first album
07:54with.
07:56Um, so I think it felt like a really important part of like blocking out like any outside
08:02noise and just kind of like cocooning ourselves.
08:05Like, yeah.
08:07Yeah.
08:08You have that level of comfortability.
08:09And when you guys all get into a room, because at this point, you and the guys are now official
08:16band members.
08:17So is this a total collaborative, you know, experience when you guys are all writing songs?
08:24Yeah.
08:24Yeah.
08:25Kind of.
08:26Mm-hmm.
08:26No, it is.
08:28Yeah.
08:28We did a lot of jamming.
08:30Uh, we rented like a house, um, in England and we spent like a month just jamming ideas,
08:37which was fun.
08:38Really fun.
08:39Did you guys have some wild parties?
08:42Uh, I don't know.
08:45We watched a lot of horror films.
08:46We watched, we also watched all of Alien and did we watch Braveheart?
08:51Did we actually manage to get through it?
08:52Yeah.
08:53We watched Braveheart like eight times because people kept leaving the room and missing the
08:58end.
09:00Oh my God.
09:02That's so random.
09:03So random.
09:04Um, so you guys are going to be obviously starting to go on tour.
09:09And doing all that stuff.
09:11And so my, I'm, I'm half British.
09:14My mom's British.
09:14And she's very specific, particular about her tea.
09:18Okay.
09:18She's got to order the PG tips from England.
09:21You know, I grew up doing like the beans on toast and all that stuff.
09:24So when you come to America, is the food, is it weird?
09:28Do you like it?
09:29Do you dislike it?
09:30Personally, I find it, it quite hard.
09:38Um, just cause I don't like, I don't know the spots, you know, like I don't know what
09:43you guys is equivalent of like Greg's is.
09:46And that's quite important.
09:48I don't know.
09:49I feel like you have a good time.
09:51Like you're always ordering good stuff.
09:53Yeah.
09:53I do like it here a lot for food.
09:57Just eating a lot of pizza.
09:59Yeah.
09:59I'm like, everybody loves pizza.
10:01Oh yeah.
10:01That's the universal love language.
10:03We had pizza today.
10:04Didn't we guys?
10:05Yeah.
10:06Oh yeah.
10:07Hell yeah to pizza.
10:08Is there any particular place when you tour in the U S that you, you just love being in
10:14that city stands out to you or is it all a blur?
10:19I really like New York.
10:21What about you?
10:22Yeah.
10:22I like New York as well.
10:23Um, probably mainly for the pizza there.
10:27It was good pizza.
10:28Yeah.
10:29Um, I like being this side as well in LA.
10:32It's always fun.
10:34Right.
10:35Um, and LA, I mean, it's like the weather.
10:38You can't, you can't beat the weather.
10:40Right.
10:40You know?
10:41Um, so moisturizer coming out July 11th.
10:46I feel like we've done enough talking cause these people didn't come here to listen to
10:50me talk.
10:50They came here to watch you guys play.
10:52So you guys give it up for wet leg.
10:54They're going to be back in a minute.
10:55Yeah.
10:56Do a little performance.
11:00All right.
11:01You guys, how are you feeling so far?
11:03How's everybody doing?
11:05Okay.
11:06Well, now it is time for us to make it so loud for wet leg.
11:11We're wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet, wet
11:41Can you catch a medicine pool?
12:05Can you catch yourself in the fall?
12:08You should be careful to catch my drink
12:12Cause what I really want to know is can you catch these fish too?

21:29To spend an hour with you
21:32To say I'm gonna do
21:36It's been cold on the earth
21:39And you
21:40And you
21:41It's not to lie
21:45There's like my friends
21:46There's like my friends

21:59That is why I don't know

27:34Good times, all the time
27:40Good times, all the time
27:43She put all those in me to the party
27:46I try my luck to dancing with everybody
27:49Sometimes life gets hard to deal
27:53I like you, you've got a sexy deal
27:56But I don't know what I'm even doing
28:00I was told that there would be three things
28:04I don't know why I haven't left yet
28:07Don't want none of this
28:10Good times, all the time
28:14Good times, all the time
28:18Good times, all the time
28:28Good times, all the time
28:31Good times, all the time
28:35Good times, all the time
28:37Good times, all the time
28:39Good times, all the time
28:41She put her breath to rake on to the party
28:44And she'll go obliterate at everybody
28:46I look at my feet and I look for the door
28:49Can't help but feel like I've been here before
28:52I don't know what I'm even doing here
28:55I was told that there would be three things
28:59I don't know why I haven't left yet
29:02Don't want none of this
29:04Good times, all the time
29:10And all comes to an end
29:16We all go again
29:19Go again
29:27Good times, all the time
29:31Good times, all the time
29:34All the time
29:42Dead times
29:44All the time
29:46Dead times
29:56Dead times
29:58Dead times

31:16What's your side, is it love?
31:23But you're not the only way you see me on

31:30I'm not the only way you see me on
31:34I try to run
31:38Head for the hills
31:40Are you a ghost?
31:45Oh my god
31:46Okay, give me the chills
