00:00when are those guys gonna do something new you know seriously what the hell oh my god it's been
00:05how long has it been seven years seven years yeah eight years something like that wow been a minute
00:12it's been a minute almost a decade joel and benji are here with us in the studio good charlotte has
00:17a new album coming out uh the name is motel du cap motel du cap and it's named that because
00:25okay we're very like motel chic yeah i think it's like truck stop you guys are fancy yeah truck stop
00:31couture well it's it's interesting because it's like you said like it's been eight years seven
00:36years we we really found through our lives that when we did what we felt we should do it always
00:42worked out okay when we did what we thought we should do or we listened to maybe someone we didn't
00:46want to let them down or something it didn't really work that well right right so it wasn't really for
00:51us so we just decided just in life we just have to do what we feel and we felt like making a record
00:57and calling it motel du cap and that song that that comes from uh actually the hotel du cap in the south
01:05of france very nice hotel kind of like where billionaires park their boats and go oh very nice
01:10so we we we played a very special event there oh so you knew somebody that oh yeah we had a friend
01:18yeah we had a friend my my little sister my wife's little sister who's like my little sister
01:23i've noticed when she was seven got married at hotel du cap beautiful wedding and she asked
01:28beautiful play the wedding and it was so we got the guys together we hadn't played in a long time
01:33and it was incredible and we were there and we were like this place is pretty nice you know one of those
01:37wedding nights family nights where it's one of the greatest nights yeah you're just like this is the
01:41best yes and then we said should we do a record and then we yeah so were you just having such a
01:46great time that you're like the spark started going in the love you know the family the love
01:53and then like you leave there and you go that was that really was special and i think and i think we
01:58became a wedding band yeah we could do a wedding we can check that off your bucket list yeah i would
02:05play many more weddings it was amazing it was great so now if she hadn't gotten married you guys would
02:10not have an album yeah i don't think so no way to know because again you got away because you have
02:16to wait for the feeling yeah so then we left there and it wasn't like right away it was like something
02:21we said that night and then it just kind of grew and then yeah it's the feeling just came and then
02:25you've got some you got some things to say then you start little songs start coming up you know and
02:30they start just and then yeah yeah so that was it but you're also busy apart from music you have
02:35a bunch of different companies going on we do we you know we we were always i think entrepreneurial
02:40kids oh we love we love bands we love finding new bands working with bands and we started a
02:46company called mddn uh it's a music company and we get to work with incredible bands we get to work
02:50with uh bad omens chase atlantic architects hydras poppy uh some incredible artists uh and incredible
02:59people at the company it's not me and benj in a room it's a bunch of really smart people and you
03:03guys work as management yeah i think i think we're like coaches right well yeah we're like coaches i
03:10think through the years one of the things we realized was a huge part of any success we ever had
03:14was team building and just finding great people and just keeping it and just and then just like
03:19staying close you know like hanging on to and i would and i would say that all the artists we work
03:24with it's more partnership less thinking of management sounds kind of like they are they're
03:29running their own shops right we work in partnership with them with incredible people at mdd and they're
03:35and but we get to work with really talented really smart um hard-working artists so we're lucky and i
03:41think the question we asked was like okay so the world always changes right music changes but how do you
03:46how do you find artists that will still make those like heart and soul records like we were just
03:51talking about turnstile right you know like classic how do you how do you find those artists and then
03:57what would we want what would we have wanted someone to tell us when we were 21 22 what were some
04:02things that maybe we could have avoided maybe some things we could have if somebody would have given
04:07us the information what is one of those things okay when you were 21 do a license keep your masters
04:13um yeah really but i would also say like like as a young artist you a lot of times trust your gut
04:21you got to trust your gut because a lot of times you're making decisions genuinely you just don't
04:26want to let anyone down don't rush the music you know like don't rush it don't rush it just go with
04:30your gut and think that's the way we get to live now it's like we make a record because we feel
04:34like okay now it's time it's probably like sounds a little more philosophical but it's like know what
04:38yes feels like what no feels like for you and do things that feel right for you and and make records
04:44until they're done and that's what people are that's what people i mean my experience is when
04:49you go when you operate that way somehow some way it's not even about a formula it's like people just
04:54feel it and when you operate the other way people don't feel it yeah so yeah you can't force something
04:59that's not there and you guys said in rolling stone you said we don't give an f in a great way
05:05what do you mean by that well i think we i think this at this stage um we made a record we love and
05:12it feels like it's icing on the cake um we hope people enjoy it but we really like it and um i think
05:20we're at a place where we're we are truly doing everything we want to do that we show up for it
05:25including today um we want to be there we're going to places we want to be seeing people we want to see
05:31and and us yes exactly exactly that's exactly who exactly and i think it's also it's like it's like
05:37there's no negative in that it's it's like a very it's like yeah we show up at the things to see to
05:44that we want to and and just respectfully politely just kind of avoid the things that we don't feel
05:49and it's just in a very much it's in a very like peaceful and it's like it's a slow it's a little bit
05:55of a slow pace we're not doing 200 shows we'll probably we're going to do a lot of shows we're
05:59going to put together tours and stuff but we really deeply appreciate the people that want
06:03to come so we want to put on the the best show we can for them and we really at this stage love
06:08meeting the people that grew up with our band um but getting to have that experience the way we're
06:14having it now it means a lot to us and so we're taking our time on this record took our time to
06:19make it and um we're excited to bring it out to the world and and share with people um so when we
06:25say we don't give an f um in a good way it's in a good way yeah it's not it's we're not we're not
06:31fighting against anything we're just kind of going with the peace with all of it tell us about
06:35rejects we have a new song from good charlotte we're going to play it in a second it's it's it's an
06:40it's an interesting uh song right like don't we all feel like rejects sometimes it's the happiest
06:47song about wishing you were dead that i've ever heard yeah yeah but that's good charlotte that is
06:54good charlotte you're right i'm so happy we're so happy and pissed off um yeah it just feels like i
07:01still always go back to that feeling like a kid feeling like a reject i'm such a reject that my
07:06reject friends won't really like me when they get to know me you know so that's kind of like that
07:11lives somewhere inside of me and it's it's not a bad thing it's just working it out in front of
07:16everybody so i was with someone the other day very successful very um very um amazing very
07:23talented person they said i'm struggling a little bit with imposter syndrome and i'm sitting there
07:28going like are you kidding you're successful you're so talented you're so successful that's
07:31everyone and i just go i just said isn't that everybody like it's just like this song i mean
07:36encapsulates just a feeling i think that you you you always have a way of like nailing things without
07:42it welcome to the club man all right we have the brand new song it's called rejects it's good
07:47charlotte we're going to take a quick break and come back with our 420 catch of the day
07:51you
