01:45in their first popular consultation. This electoral process represented the 33rd election held in the country since Hugo Chavez took office.
01:58And Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro congratulating the Venezuelan people on their victory in 285 municipalities across the country.
02:11And I must thank the people of Venezuela for the tremendous victory we have achieved today. 285 mayoralties. At this time, we have won out of 335. Consolidated. Irreversible.
02:30We have gone from 212 mayoralties in 2021 to 285. One with the vote of the ordinary man, the strong woman, the rebellious people.
02:49And the Venezuelan people pay tribute to the Supreme Commander Hugo Rafael Chavez FrĂa on the 71st anniversary of his birth, as well as celebrating the electoral victory in the mayoral and council elections.
03:01The people, affirming their convictions, show that the streets are a place of for legitimate expression, for defending their achievements and for reaffirming their revolutionary courts with a steady step and a fighting spirit.

03:53Lisbeth, can you hear me?
03:58It seems we're having an issue with the communication. Our guest cannot hear me. We're going to try to get back in contact with her.
04:05Let's continue now with other news. Let's continue with the president of the electoral authority has specified that 304 positions are being awarded with an irreversible tendency for mayors and mayoresses, as well as President Nicolás Maduro congratulating the people for their participation.

04:30We'll be right back. Stay with us.
04:33We'll be right back. Stay with us.
05:03Welcome back. We're trying to get in contact with Lisbeth Melendez to talk about the important day that marks this Monday, July 28th, a year from the presidential victory of President Nicolás Maduro,
05:13and also the victory of the Venezuelan people as a whole against the far-right destabilization attempts that took place after the electoral victory.
05:21Let's welcome once more our next guest, our guest, international analyst on U.S. policies, Lisbeth Melendez. Welcome to From the South.
05:31It's a pleasure to have you.
05:32Lisbeth, it's been a year, as we were saying, from that important date back last year at the end of July.
05:39What can you tell us on how these U.S. policies have developed from that moment where, in less than 48 hours, the people went to the streets and overcame those destabilization attempts to what we have seen through the years in terms of the foreign policy of the U.S. towards Venezuela?
05:54Well, I mean, I think one of the important things that we need to understand is that under this new administration, they are more aggressive towards the destabilization of Venezuela's government.
06:06The people spoke last year. The people continue to speak in favor of the current government.
06:12The opposition has been boycotting, according to many records.
06:17And as you know, recently, as recently as yesterday, our Secretary of State, one of the many hats that Marco Rubio, a Cuban immigrant here in the United States, has very clearly stated that what he believes to be the truth and accuses President Maduro of one too many crimes,
06:42which the world has seen as simple attempts of destabilizing, you know, the voice of the people of Venezuela and of its sovereign government.
06:51We have seen in the recent, with the whole issue of migration, of the forced deportations from the states, the imprisonment of migrants and the kidnapping to El Salvador,
07:03which recently the over 250 people will return, we have seen that all this was carried out through negotiation channels directly between the U.S. and Venezuela.
07:12Is this can be seen maybe as a little step forward to a new way or just another step in what has always been the relations between the U.S. and Venezuela,
07:20that one day the U.S. says something and then the other they do something else?
07:24Well, I think the latter is probably truer right now.
07:31President Trump and his administration is facing an unprecedented challenge around his base due to the Epstein files.
07:40And in the process of all of that and in the buildup of all of that, the exchange of prisoners in Venezuela has happened,
07:49you know, from El Salvador to Venezuela and then from the from Venezuela, both back to the United States, etc.
07:56You know, it is hard to understand where this this administration falls vis-a-vis not just the policies around Venezuela, but around the world.
08:07Every time the challenge races are in President Trump.
08:12He finds ways in which to try to take attention away from this.
08:16Our hope as people of Latina descent here in the United States and who, you know, those who support the government and the self-determination of Venezuelans is that this, you know, this is a sign for the better.
08:28But history currently tells us that with President Trump, that is never the case.
08:34And so what I would say is that we need to look for the opportunities to exploit those weaknesses around the policies and public relations disasters of this administration in order for us to benefit.
08:51And to continue to, you know, to support the usage in the exchanges of trade and others that will benefit the people of Venezuela and not hurt them.
09:01And since that, those presidential elections, July last year, Venezuela has experienced two other elections closing the cycle, the constitutional cycle of elections.
09:10The governors earlier this year and just yesterday, the municipal and local councilors elections where we saw a great participation of the people and also a consolidation of the will of the people towards the project of the Bolivarian revolution of the great patriotic poll alliance.
09:25What's your take on the results that just happened yesterday and the outwhelming support towards these government policies of the seven transformations that have been promoted by President Nicolás Maduro?
09:37I think again, you know, I congratulate the people of Venezuela in in speaking up and supporting what they believe is the right decision for their for their people.
09:48I think that globally, you know, the administration here in the United States is going to do everything that they can to cast this in the light of manipulation and false hope.
09:59Again, you know, yes, that alone yesterday, Secretary Rubio called President Maduro a narco-trafficant, a terrorist, and highlighted what he believed was the boycotting of elections by those who support the United States narrative as if they were the heroes.
10:22The reality is that it is to be congratulated, you know, the people of Venezuela to be congratulated around the around this issue, they have spoken, they continue to speak, they continue to support the revolution.
10:33And if that was not the case, just like it has been in the past, the people of Venezuela would rise and would do so they have not.
10:40And therefore, we know and, you know, we know that Venezuela continues to be a country where just like any other has challenges and has triumphs and people of Venezuela continue to support the triumphs of the revolution.
10:58And we'll see what the oligarchy tries to do around other issues.
11:03But yesterday's, you know, mayoral and council elections, again, overwhelming turnout, overwhelming results, and the people of Venezuela continue to speak and President Maduro continues to do the work of representing those votes.
11:20Thank you very much, Lisbeth, for your inputs and for your time here in From the South with us.
11:25You're welcome. Have a great day.
11:27You too. Hope to see you soon. Let's continue now with our news.
11:50In Venezuela, July 28th marks one year of President Nicolás Maduro's victory in the democratic elections as the country moves forward.
11:56with the seven transformations. Our colleague Adriana Zivori with the details.
12:03It has been a year since Venezuelan head of state Nicolás Maduro won the presidential elections.
12:09During that election campaign, his promises revolved around seven transformations that he considered and continues to consider necessary for the economic and social advancement of his country.
12:21In January of this year, he officially began his new term. And without delay, the first thing he did was to enact that government plan into law.
12:31So we then began a special journey seeking to show what path he's following and how Venezuela is moving forward.
12:38Here is our first story with the key word stability.
12:41The heat of the Venezuelan capital subsides as you climb the Huayra Arepano. It means big mountain and it is the lung of Caracas. You can climb on foot or a completely renovated cable car takes you to the top. At almost 3,000 meters, the climate changes. At this time of year, the fog envelops visitors.
13:05Venezuela is beautiful in any weather. We have it all. Beach, river, savannah, plain, El Junquito, La Colonia, wherever you want to go, it's there. The Huayra Arepano is spectacular, beautiful. It has been completely remodeled. Very nice. I had come here long before it was renovated. The beautiful can be seen from up here. Super beautiful. And the country well. Recovering, recovering. Recovering.
13:12And it is in public spaces where it is most visible.
13:19For example, this square, which was recently restored and is also close to the square.
13:26It is in public spaces where it is most visible.
13:32For example, this square, which was recently restored and is also close to the National Art Gallery. It is significant that next to this art gallery, there is this square, which is also conductive to enjoying the liberation of art from culture and from what we do.
13:39as Venezuelans. Here, families from different parts of the city gather. Many from popular cities.
13:40And in other places, And in other places, the people go to the city.
13:42Recovering, in other places where it is most visible.
13:43For example, this square, which was recently restored and is also close to the National Art Gallery. It is significant that next to this art gallery there is this square, which is also conductive to enjoying the liberation of art from culture and from what we are as Venezuelans.
14:05Here, families from different parts of the city gathered, many from popular neighborhoods
14:09that were considered high-risk areas.
14:12I am from Petare and before you couldn't walk around Petare.
14:17Now the harmony in Petare is such that I can even meditate.
14:21Before you couldn't take out your cell phone and now I can walk around freely and enjoy
14:25the company and enjoy the journey without worrying about the destination.
14:32Whole coexistence stands out in the streets.
14:35There is no longer as much political problems as we had months or years ago when we were
14:39killing each other.
14:40At least now we are sharing, living.
14:44Household consumption has increased, this is the predominant opinion.
14:51Despite the situation with the dollar and our economy, which is in another currency but is
14:56based on that, yes, the salaried worker sector, to which I belong, has noticed that everyone
15:04has seen a significant improvement in their purchasing power and the things they buy.
15:10The level of appliances, food, who have vehicles, the issue of fuel and all those things despite
15:17the limitations, is moving.
15:20The highest authority in the South American nation affirms that the trend is towards sustained
15:26growth after a network manipulating that parallel dollar was shut down in May.
15:31A new economic model is being built with our own efforts and resources.
15:38In the second quarter, the numbers are already consolidated with 6.65% growth in the real economy.
15:47It was a difficult second quarter because they tried to waste economic war on us again.
15:52And we are now more solid, we are now more robust.
15:57But how do experts explain stability?
16:02The government adopted a public policy on an important economic issue.
16:07There is economic dynamism, an agreement between the government, the private sector and the
16:12community and that has been a fundamental element for political stability.
16:16Of course, the economic and financial blockade affected the country's macroeconomy and the state's
16:21resource capability to develop its policy.
16:25However, I believe that appropriate measures have been taken in the context of domestic economic
16:31policy.
16:32And there is also an important international dynamic where the blockade has, admittedly,
16:38affected us.
16:39We have already had the strategic resilience to move forward.
16:44Nicolas Maduro has six years in office.
16:50The challenges that have been set for this period include modernizing the economy, threatening
16:56education, consolidating direct democracy, combating climate change, shaping international
17:02relations.
17:03And one point that stands out is the promise to continue defending Venezuelan migrants wherever
17:08they are.
17:09Would you like to know how, the details, and how far he has progressed?
17:14Follow us on our multi-platform.
17:15We will be reporting on this throughout the week.
17:19And in Peru, relatives of victims of the Dinah Buluarte government took part in an emotional
17:26pilgrimage in search of justice, memory, and dignity.
17:29The pilgrimage included a ritual offering to reject impunity and demand truth and reparation,
17:34and it was organized by human rights groups and families of those who died during the 2023
17:40protests, in which dozens of people lost their lives during clashes with law enforcement.
17:45The central event was an ancestral ritual offering the Pachamama, led by Andean spiritual leaders,
17:51in which justice was demanded for the victims and President Buluarte was condemned.
17:55In turn, the families of the victims demanded that the current government accelerate the investigations
17:59and punish those responsible for the deaths.
18:15Workers at Al-Shifa Hospital in Palestine announced the death of a baby due to severe malnutrition
18:30and a shortage of breast milk in the Gaza Strip.
18:32This tragedy is the result of serious humanitarian crises and has brought the number of deaths
18:36from starvation and malnutrition to 134, including 88 children, according to the United Nations Relief
18:42and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
18:46The rate of malnutrition among children under five in Gaza doubled between March and June
18:51of this year due to the blockade imposed by the Israeli army.
18:54The World Health Organization has confirmed that malnutrition rates have reached alarming levels,
18:59warning that one in five children under five in the Palestinian enclave suffers from acute
19:03malnutrition.
19:12In this regard, the United Nations has stated that Israel has eased some restrictions on
19:20Gaza by allowing 100 trucks carrying humanitarian aid to enter from Egypt.
19:24However, they warned that this amount was insufficient to prevent famine and a catastrophic health crisis.
19:30The Gaza media office has said that 600 trucks of aid per day and 250,000 cans of infant formula
19:36per month are needed instead.
19:48Meanwhile, the authorities in Gaza reported three airdrops of humanitarian aid equivalent
19:52to the load of two trucks.
19:54These loads were parachuted by Jordanian and United Arab Emirates aircraft over northern Gaza,
20:00according to eyewitness accounts.
20:01Most of the cargo fell in Israeli military areas that are off-limits to civilians.
20:07They argued that this was an insult to the dignity of the famine-stricken Palestinian population.
20:12Meanwhile, citizens risked their lives, looting bags of flour from trucks arriving in northwest
20:17Gaza City.
20:20And the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the implementation of a four-phase of naval blockade against vessels
20:29linked to Israel in response to the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people.
20:33The military spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces warned that this phase includes
20:37attacks on ships of any company operating with Israeli ports in areas within range of
20:42their missiles and drones.
20:44Companies are warned to cease operations with the Zionist entity.
20:48The Yemeni authorities urged the international community to pressure Israel to end its siege
20:52of Palestinians.
20:53This measure reiterates Yemen's support for Palestine against the genocide the Zionist entity
20:57has been waging against its people.
21:04In other news, the United States and the European Union signed a new trade agreement that maintains
21:0915% tariffs on European exports while eliminating the tax burden on U.S. imports in European markets.
21:16The agreement was reached during a meeting in Scotland between Donald Trump and EU Commission
21:20President Ursula von der Leyen.
21:22On other points, the European bloc commits to acquiring $750 billion in U.S. energy products,
21:28including oil and liquefied natural gas, as well as a quantity of military equipment.
21:34German media outlet Weld said the agreement is disadvantageous for Europe, as for 24 years
21:40Washington applied tariffs of only around 2% to European products.
21:45On Monday morning, the first direct flight from Moscow in over seven decades landed in Pyongyang,
21:54North Korea, as part of a new agreement between both nations to strengthen relations.
21:58The Russian airline Nordwind operated the historic flight that arrived in the Korean capital,
22:03with the aim of expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism and regional
22:08connectivity.
22:09The flight, covering more than 6,400 kilometers and lasting eight hours, transported Russian
22:14officials and North Korean citizens returning to their country.
22:17Authorities of both governments celebrated the event as a key step toward a stronger and more
22:22beneficial relationship for their peoples.
