EU-US trade deal will come with economic consequences, German industries warn

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement between the European Commission president and the US president. Representatives of German industry are also relieved, but warn of future losses.

00:00After the European Union and the United States secured a tentative trade deal,
00:07many leaders have expressed skepticism about its terms.
00:11French Prime Minister Francois Beirut called it a dark day as Europe resolved to what he called submission.
00:17Others, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez,
00:20expressed support to the European Commission for reaching a deal
00:23while expressing reservations about its content.
00:26The deal is preliminary and needs to be further fleshed out,
00:46but would introduce a 15% tariff for the vast majority of EU products.
00:50The tariff for US exports bound for the EU market was not immediately clear.
00:56It will still be necessary to work on the agreement,
