Cranley Gowing has spent four decades refining his Merino flock.
Transcript
00:00We're running about 1,000 merino ewes and their progeny on about 4,000 acres, including
00:07800-900 acres of cereal cropping. The merinos I consider to be our major production for this
00:14area. We're aiming for visual strong wool that is only myocroning most probably 20 to say no
00:22more than 21, producing as much of it as we possibly can. The merino sheep here are Darrawal
00:29blood. We've been using Darrawal for 40 years now, which haven't ventured off the Darrawals.
00:37We're very happy with what we're achieving at the moment. If you shop and change, yes you get
00:43genetic advancement, but it's unpredictable and that's the main reason for staying in the one
00:50place for as long as we have. It's very predictable and I think we've still got some very interesting
00:58finds in the next few years, in my thought.
