Hugh Zhou, MARS founder and researcher, has developed a robotic harvesting system for commercial orchards that can help address labour shortage and can deliver rapid help ahead of extreme weather events.
Transcript
00:00The entire robotic project was born from the frustration, the deep frustration of the growers.
00:07They have a very severe concern on labor shortage and climate uncertainties.
00:13So over the past seven years we've been developing this robot to provide them an alternative solution
00:21to fill the gap of labor shortage and potentially help them to be more resistant
00:27to this climate pressure. So that's where we build this robot up.
00:34With this fundamental technology being developed down the journey of airport picking,
00:39we are confident that we can expand this to other crops by tuning a bit of parameters
00:47in the algorithm and customize for different crops.
