00:00Welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:05The London Underground, known as the Tube, is the world's first underground railway.
00:10It opened in 1863, with the Metropolitan Railway running steam trains between Paddington and
00:17Farringdon. As the city grew, more lines were built, and by the early 1900s, electric trains
00:24replaced steam, making the network faster and cleaner. Iconic features like the round
00:31logo and Harry Beck's simplified tube map emerged in the 20th century, helping millions
00:37navigate the system. Today, the underground serves over 270 stations and carries around
00:444 million passengers a day, remaining a vital part of London's identity and daily life in
00:51the city.
