00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:04The Docklands Light Railway, also known as the DLR, is a driverless light metro system
00:10serving East and South East London.
00:13Opened in 1987, it was created to support regeneration of the London Docklands, a once
00:19thriving port area that had fallen into decline.
00:23The DLR connects key areas like Canary Wharf, Stratford, Greenwich and London City Airport
00:29making it vital for commuters and tourists as well.
00:35Fully automated, the DLR trains are controlled by computer, though staff are on board for
00:40safety and assistance.
00:42It runs on dedicated tracks and uses smaller, lighter trains than the London Underground,
00:47with more frequent stops and elevated sections offering great views of the city.
