00:00Brothers and sisters, we live in a time when the line between the true church and the counterfeit
00:06is increasingly blurred. There are religious movements to day denominations that claim to
00:12bear the name of Christ, that are in truth not of God. They may build grand buildings, wear clerical
00:20robes, and quote scripture. They may preach with charisma, draw massive crowds, and claim the
00:27Holy Spirit's power, but underneath the surface lies a dark agenda, one not birthed by the Spirit of God,
00:36but by the deception of Satan. This is not about being divisive, this is about truth. It's about
00:44the eternal souls of men and women being led not toward the narrow gate, but away from it toward
00:50destruction. Jesus warned us, wolves would come in sheep's clothing, and many would follow their
00:58destructive ways. And today, the flock is bleeding while the shepherds remain silent. In this message,
01:04I will name the danger. I will expose the marks of a counterfeit church and call God's people to
01:09discernment, courage, and biblical faithfulness. Because truth matters, souls matter, and Christ
01:15must be exalted. Without compromise, let us open our Bibles, open our eyes, and prepare our hearts
01:22for the truth. Deception cloaked in doctrine several years ago, I spoke with a woman who had just left a
01:29denomination that claimed to be Bible, believing. She had grown up in it, served in leadership, and was
01:36even training to teach others. She thought she knew the gospel. Until she actually read the Bible for
01:42herself, what she discovered horrified her. The denomination had mastered the language of
01:48orthodoxy. They quoted verses. They had statements of faith. They spoke of Jesus, grace, and salvation.
01:56But when you looked closer, everything was redefined. Grace meant earning God's favor through church
02:04attendance and obedience to their leaders. Salvation meant joining their denomination and following their
02:11rules. And truth, well, that was whatever the prophet or head pastor claimed it was that day.
02:18It was spiritual sleight of hand. Biblical terms were used as bait, but the doctrine behind them
02:25was twisted beyond recognition. Like Paul warned in 2 Corinthians 11, they preached another Jesus,
02:33offered another spirit, and proclaimed another gospel. This woman's journey out was long and painful.
02:40She said to me, I had to unlearn what I thought was the gospel, because it wasn't the gospel at all.
02:48Friends, deception today doesn't always wear the face of atheism. It often wears robes, carries a Bible,
02:55and preaches in pulpits. False teaching hides in plain sight, not in the words it uses, but in the
03:02meanings it corrupts. That's why discernment is not optional. Not all who claim to represent Christ
03:10speak his truth. And the tragedy is, many who sit in these churches believe they're saved,
03:18yet they've never heard the real gospel. They've heard a counterfeit, a shadow. It's not the name
03:25over the door that defines a true church, but the content of its message. And where that message
03:32strays from scripture, we must cry out, because souls hang in the balance. The authority they reject,
03:40I once attended a so-called revival meeting held by a growing Christian denomination. The place was
03:46packed. People were singing, weeping, falling to the floor. The preacher took the stage with dramatic
03:53flair. He shouted, the Holy Spirit gave me a new word today. And the crowd erupted, but something was
04:00missing. As I sat there, I realized, not once had anyone opened a Bible. Not once had scripture been
04:08read, explained, or honored. The entire service was built on emotion, experience, and personal
04:15revelation. This is the danger we face when scripture is no longer the final authority. These denominations
04:23may claim to believe the Bible, but in practice, it becomes secondary, a springboard for ideas,
04:31a decorative book, not the supreme voice of God. They exalt new visions, dreams, and words of knowledge.
04:41But whenever man's experience is elevated above God's word, error becomes inevitable. As Isaiah 8,
04:4920 says, to the law and to the testimony, if they do not speak according to this word, it is because
04:58they have no dawn. Churches like this will tell you God is doing a new thing, as if that gives them
05:05permission to abandon the old truth. But God's word does not evolve. Truth does not change with trends,
05:12and no man, no prophet, no denomination has the right to add to or subtract from it.
05:19Satan's first attack in the garden was an attack on the authority of God's word. Did God really say?
05:26And he hasn't changed his tactics. He still seeks to convince people that their feelings or leaders are
05:32a more reliable guide than scripture. But we must stand where the apostles stood,
05:38if a church's teachings cannot be traced clearly, faithfully, and contextually to the word of God,
05:49then no matter how spiritual it looks, it is not of God. And so, we must ask, who truly has the final
05:58word in your church? If it's not Christ speaking through his word, it's time to walk away. A gospel of
06:07man, not of God, I remember once sitting down with a young man who had spent years in a popular
06:14Christian denomination. He was bright, passionate, and completely sincere. But something he said
06:22stopped me cold. Pastor, he said, I gave my life to Christ so I could finally find success, confidence,
06:31and peace with myself. Success, confidence, peace with yourself. Now, none of those are wrong in and of
06:40themselves. But they're not the gospel, not the biblical gospel. When I asked him what he believed
06:47the gospel message was, he recited a familiar list. Jesus loves me, wants me to live my best life,
06:54break generational curses, and walk in divine favor. No mention of sin, repentance, the cross, or God's
07:02wrath. No recognition of the holiness of God, the depravity of man, or the need for substitutionary
07:10atonement. What he had believed was not the gospel of Christ. It was a gospel of personal improvement,
07:17emotional therapy, and earthly gain. This is the tragedy of modern counterfeit Christianity.
07:25Many denominations have replaced the hard truths of scripture with a message more palatable to the
07:31modern ear. A gospel that doesn't confront, doesn't offend, and most importantly, doesn't save.
07:39Paul wrote in Galatians 1, 6-7,
07:43I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you by the grace of Christ and are
07:51turning to a different gospel, which is really no gospel at all. This other gospel is often dressed
08:00in slick marketing, motivational speech, and emotionally charged atmospheres. It promises
08:08breakthrough and blessing, but not sanctification and suffering. It gives people what they want,
08:15but not what they need. Because the true gospel doesn't flatter the sinner. It confronts him,
08:22calls him to die to self, and follow Christ at all cost. The gospel is not about making you feel better.
08:29It's about making you right with a holy God. It's not man-centered. It's Christ-centered.
08:35And if any church or denomination turns the spotlight away from the cross and onto you,
08:41it is not of God. Spiritual abuse and control, a woman once sat in my office,
08:47her hands trembling, her voice barely above a whisper. She had spent fifteen years in a church
08:53that claimed to be spirit-led, where obedience to leadership was equated with obedience to God.
08:59At first, she said it felt like a family. The pastor was charismatic, the people were warm,
09:06and the sermons were passionate. But as time passed, the warmth turned cold. She wasn't allowed
09:12to question anything. Not the teaching, not the decisions, not even the behavior of the leaders.
09:18If she raised a concern, she was told she was rebellious or lacking faith. The pastor's word was final,
09:24and eventually his voice replaced the voice of scripture in her life. She wasn't led. She was
09:30controlled. Her spiritual growth was stifled. Her identity became tied to how well she pleased
09:37the leaders. And when she tried to leave, they told her she was leaving God. This is not biblical
09:43leadership. It's spiritual abuse. And it's far more common than many realize. Jesus never ruled his
09:50disciples with fear or guilt. He washed their feet. He corrected them with truth, not manipulation.
09:58He laid down his life for the sheep. But some modern denominations have twisted leadership into
10:04domination. They quote Hebrews 13, 17, Obey your leaders and submit to them, but conveniently ignore
10:141 Peter 5, 3. When a pastor or church demands loyalty to man over loyalty to Christ, they become
10:27spiritual tyrants, not shepherds. Paul warned in Acts 20, 29-30 that savage wolves will come in among you,
10:37even from within the church, seeking to draw disciples after themselves. This is not oversight.
10:44It is idolatry of leadership, a system built on fear, guilt, and psychological control,
10:51and it breaks the heart of God. A church that uses scripture to keep people in chains is not of God.
10:58A church that silences questions, punishes doubt, and demands allegiance to men is not the body of
11:04Christ. It is a cult wrapped in Christian language, and the only biblical response is to flee and cling
11:11to the true shepherd, Jesus Christ, who never abuses, only restores. A call to discern and depart,
11:19I met a man once who knew the truth, but stayed silent. For years, he served in a denomination that
11:26had long since drifted from biblical fidelity. The sermons had turned shallow. The leadership had
11:33grown proud. The gospel was replaced with programs, entertainment, and emotionalism. He said,
11:40I knew it wasn't right, but I didn't want to lose the friendships, the routine, the place I called home.
11:47Eventually, it wasn't a scandal or doctrinal shift that broke him. It was the realization that his own
11:54children had no idea what the true gospel even was. They had grown up in church, but they didn't know
12:03Christ. And that's when he knew staying silent was not faithfulness. It was compromise. Too many believers
12:12today are trapped in churches or denominations that no longer preach the word, no longer honor Christ,
12:20and no longer point to the cross. But out of fear, tradition, or comfort, they remain, hoping things
12:29will get better or telling themselves that no church is perfect. Yes, no church is perfect, but there is a
12:37vast difference between an imperfect church pursuing truth and a false church promoting lies. The Bible
12:45doesn't suggest we tolerate error. It commands us to expose it. Ephesians 5, 11 says, take no part in
12:54the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Romans 16, 17 says to watch out for those who
13:03cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine you have been taught. Avoid them. When a
13:09church turns from truth, it becomes a spiritual hazard. And our first duty is not loyalty to a
13:17building or a denomination. It is loyalty to Jesus Christ. He said, my sheep hear my voice and they
13:26follow me. Discernment is not unloving. Separation is not judgmental. It is obedience. When the voice of
13:36scripture is drowned out, when the gospel is redefined, when Christ is replaced by personalities or systems,
13:44the time has come, not to argue, not to plead, but to walk away. Leave the lies, cling to the truth,
13:52come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord.
