'Invests In The Future Of Our Families': Mike Kennedy Praises Big Beautiful Bill's Impact

In House floor remarks on Wednesday, Rep. Mike Kennedy (R-UT) spoke about the Big Beautiful Bill.

00:00With that, I yield time to myself from Utah, Mike Kennedy, and I'm going to give my speech.

00:07Mr. Speaker, today I rise to recognize some of the impacts of the One Big Beautiful Bill

00:12and what it will have on my state.

00:14By passing the One Big Beautiful Bill, the House Republican majority kept its promise

00:18to preserve the 2017 tax cuts and provided further relief for American families.

00:24The White House's Council of Economic Advisors estimates the bill will raise Utah wages

00:29between $4,300 and $7,700 over the next four years, putting more money in the pockets of our hardworking Americans.

00:38Typical families with two children can also expect to see higher take-home pay in the range of $7,900 to $11,400.

00:48Utah is one of the fastest-growing states in the nation and has the highest average household size.

00:54The One Big Beautiful Bill increases the child tax credit to $2,200, which will help our Utah families as they continue to grow.

01:03Without the bill's passage, a child tax credit would have dropped to just $1,000 per child.

01:09I'm glad this bill invests in the future of our families, not just in Utah, but all over the country.

01:14The One Big Beautiful Bill also helps hardworking Americans by cutting taxes on overtime pay.

01:21Around 22% of all employees in Utah regularly work overtime and could benefit from this tax break.

01:28The bill also cuts taxes on tips.

01:31Whether you are a waitress earning tips or a nurse working overtime,

01:35this legislation will make sure that your hard-earned money stays where it belongs, in your pocket.

01:41The legislation also benefits those who give to charitable causes, including tithes or religious contributions,

01:47allowing individuals who do not itemize their deductions to claim a charitable deduction.

01:53The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers historic tax relief for seniors.

01:57This legislation ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits.

02:05In Utah alone, around 400,000 seniors could benefit from the no taxes on Social Security provision of this bill.

02:12Our seniors have spent their lifetimes contributing to our nation's economy,

02:17and House Republicans are glad to provide them relief through this bill.

02:22The One Big Beautiful Bill will also help Utahans in ways beyond tax credits.

02:26It will help rural Utah by boosting Utah's energy sector due to provisions slashing the bureaucratic red tape associated with permitting days

02:35and by restarting oil, gas, and coal leases.

02:39This will create thousands of jobs in Utah.

02:43The One Big Beautiful Bill also helps Utahans by reauthorizing the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act,

02:50also known as RECA, for another two years following its expiration last year.

02:54RECA authorization will compensate Utahans who were exposed to radiation

02:58after the above-ground atomic testing at the Nevada test site.

03:03It will also extend compensation to uranium miners and expand eligibility for downwinders across the state of Utah.

03:10This will help relieve burdens for Utahans who were harmed during active nuclear weapons testing.

03:16The bill will provide funding for technological advancement for our military and enhance the quality of life for our military personnel

03:23by allocating up to $7.4 billion in benefits for service members across the country.

03:30Under this bill, the budget will provide for the restoration and renovation of barracks,

03:35more funding for the Defense Health Program,

03:37aid to military families by aiding to the child care fee assistance,

03:41and provide for bonuses for members of the military.

03:45This policy reflects our commitment to honoring the sacrifices of our military

03:50by investing directly in service members and the infrastructure that supports their well-being.

03:55It demonstrates our commitment to putting America first

03:58by ensuring our servicemen and women in Utah and across the world receive the care and support they deserve.

04:06This legislation is designed to put hard-working Americans, families, and small businesses first,

04:15including my constituents in Utah's 3rd District.

04:18By passing this bill, Republicans have delivered on the promises we made to the American people.
