During a press gaggle on Wednesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson spoke about the Big Beautiful Bill.
Transcript
00:00In the meantime, on a much brighter note, the House Republicans are looking forward to going back to their districts.
00:05They have a lot to be proud of and a lot of good news to share back home.
00:09It's just six months, six months of this administration and this Congress.
00:13We work closely with President Trump. We've delivered on the mandate from the American people.
00:18We have the safest border now in the history of the country.
00:21Inflation is cooling.
00:23We passed one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in the history of this institution, the one big, beautiful bill.
00:28And what that did, as you know, was it secured the largest tax cut for American workers,
00:32the largest single investment in border security and national defense in generations,
00:37the largest reduction in spending in the history of any government on planet Earth, and much more.
00:42President Trump is making historic trade deals to balance the playing field and bring trillions of dollars of investment into America.
00:48As a side note, I always tell you, I was in the Oval Office last night for the historic moment where he made the trade deal with Japan.
00:54It was really something to see. I'll write a book about it one day, The Art of the Deal.
00:57It was a master class.
00:59We passed over 250 bills.
01:01We voted to codify 50 of President Trump's executive actions, and we're just getting started.
01:05He has signed into law so far important legislation like the Lake and Riley Act, the Halt Fentanyl Act, the Take It Down Act, the Genius Act,
01:12and, of course, the $9 billion rescissions package.
01:15In just six months, President Trump and House Republicans have made safer, stronger, and more prosperous America.
01:21We have worked to do that, fulfilling our campaign promises, and there's much more to come.
01:25And during the district work period, we'll be crisscrossing our districts and sharing with constituents the impact of all that hard work here on Capitol Hill.
01:33So I'll just conclude this and take a couple questions by saying, as we break apart here now to go home for the district work period,
01:41there is a lot to share with our constituents, a lot to share, a lot of good news.
01:46And we're looking forward to everyone feeling the positive effects of the work that's been done here so far.
01:50A couple questions.
