In remarks on the House floor Thursday, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) spoke about the Big Beautiful Bill.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Smith.
00:01The gentleman from Nebraska is recognized for one minute.
00:04I thank the chairman for the diligent work he has done in bringing folks together, hearing
00:08from all members and helping formulate a bill that is great for America, great for workers,
00:16where we know that what we did in 2017 increased wages for workers at an amount even better
00:25proportionately than high-income folks.
00:30I also want to point out that my colleagues across the aisle voted for a large portion
00:34of this bill last year.
00:39Now there's various criticisms that they've kind of pivoted, I guess, a bit, but when you
00:45really look at what we are doing, we're preventing a tax increase on the middle class, average
00:51American household without this bill getting done will face about a $1,500 tax increase.
00:58American Farm Bureau tells us that the average farm will face more than $5,000 tax increase
01:03if we don't get our bill done.
01:05Mr. Speaker, this is the right thing to do.
01:08This is great for America.
01:09I yield back.
01:10Gentleman yields.
01:11Gentleman from Massachusetts.
