00:00Everton are entering a crucial period of transition under David Moyes
00:06as they begin a fresh chapter and lay the foundations for long-term stability and progress.
00:12After a turbulent few seasons, the emphasis is now on building a resilient, well-balanced squad
00:18capable of climbing the Premier League table.
00:21His approach rooted in defensive organisation, counter-attacking sharpness
00:26and a strong team ethic is already being felt around Finch Farm.
00:31Recruitment this summer is being shaped to match that identity
00:34with the club targeting experienced leaders and emerging talents who fit Moyes' vision.
00:40We caught up with Will Rooney of Liverpool World to get a sense of Everton's strategy.
00:46He noted that while the budget remains tight, the club are being smart in the market,
00:50balancing outgoings with shrewd additions.
00:52While Moyes is at the helm, a clearer direction is emerging
00:56and Everton are determined to restore pride and purpose in the blue half of Merseyside.
01:04In terms of incomings for Everton, as you mentioned, there's still a lot of gaps in the squad
01:10that they need to improve on and David Moyes has been certain from the back end of last season
01:14or even from when he returned that it's so important that they do improve some positions quality-wise as well
01:21and then depth as well can be a massive issue in the Premier League with the injuries that creep in.
01:26So in terms of incomings, what are the sort of priorities that Everton really need to tie down at this moment?
01:32Well, they've brought in Tierno Barry from Villarreal as a striker,
01:35which solves one issue, Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving the club.
01:40I don't think anyone was massively surprised that Calvert-Lewin left at the end of his contract
01:45and Everton needs another striker.
01:49Tierno Barry might be one who needs to be developed a little bit.
01:53He's never played in the Premier League.
01:54He only played at Villarreal for one season, scored 11 goals as they finished fourth or fifth in La Liga
02:01and qualified for the Champions League.
02:05So with Yousef Chimiti, maybe towards the end of the window,
02:09do you look at that and think we might log Chimiti out, can we get another striker in a loan?
02:13But priorities for me now is it's on the right wing because they haven't got an out-and-out right winger.
02:20They've got two good options, Illiman and Dye and Dwight McNeil on the left.
02:24But they need someone on the right, someone ideally with pace who can really get Everton up the pitch.
02:29Charlie Alcaraz is more of an attack on the field as stroke and can play-wise.
02:35Harrison Armstrong enjoys a really good loan spell at Derby County in the Championship
02:40during the second half of last season.
02:42But is he ready for the Premier League?
02:44I think maybe what he does in pre-season might dictate that.
02:47So Everton needs to go and bolster the centre-midfield options.
02:52Players like Douglas Luiz have been linked.
02:55Yeah, David Moyes will want a little bit of quality in there.
03:00The fact that Everton went and tried Kenny Tettie, tried to sign Kenny Tettie,
03:05shows that David Moyes maybe wants a new right-back as well.
03:09You've got Nathan Patterson there who did well in the open pre-season game
03:13against Akriton, Jake O'Brien obviously can play there as well.
03:17But Moyes might want one there.
03:18And I think maybe if you get some of those in,
03:21then maybe you're looking at a left-back as well.
03:23But with Vitaly Mikhelenko being the only recognised senior option,
03:28I think that's an area of the squad that David Moyes might like to add to.
03:32Maybe someone a little bit more attacking than Mikhelenko potentially.
03:36Someone who you can dovetail with and maybe play Mikhelenko.
03:39And when you go on a way to the likes of Liverpool or Arsenal
03:42and you play someone a little bit more attacking, certainly in home games.
03:46So there's still a lot to do for Everton.
03:48I still think they need two right midfielders, probably at least two centre midfielders,
03:53a right-back, a left-back, maybe another third-choice goalie.
03:59So Harry Tarder can potentially go out on loan again.
04:03So there's still a lot to do.
04:04I don't think Everton fans are panicking yet.
04:09But it would be of late numbers in, of course they will.
04:16But I think Moyes will want the right players in rather than just getting bozzies through the soil.
04:20They'll want the right players in who can improve Everton.
04:23And maybe it'll just mean that Everton have a little bit of a slower start to the season.
04:26But they'll pick up once the games start coming and they get game minutes under their belt.
04:33But yeah, it's proven difficult and it's understandable why.
04:36Because they need a lot of players, but they need quality players as well who will make an impact.
04:42So there's still a lot of players.
