00:00Everton's 2024-25 campaign was a tale of two halves.
00:09Under Sean Dyche, a rocky start saw Goodison Park's legacy teeter toward despair,
00:14with safety very much uncertain.
00:17Then came the return of David Moyes, brought in by new owners, the freaking group, to steady the ship.
00:23Moyes reshaped Everton's style, increased pressing, higher defensive line, more control on the ball,
00:30and transformed their form.
00:31Since his appointment, they became one of the top eight performing sites, comfortably avoiding relegation.
00:38We spoke to Will Rooney of Liverpool World, who closely followed this dramatic turnaround,
00:45reflecting on the season's defining phases, the struggles, Moyes' impact,
00:49and the optimism he restores, heading into next term.
00:54Well, in terms of Everton and the positives of their season, I mean, you know,
00:58like other clubs, you know, Wolves, for example, it was a bit of a season of two halves
01:03with the managerial change halfway through.
01:06Before we get on to David Moyes, and that probably being the main positives surrounding Everton,
01:11I mean, you have to look at and give them a real note for their away form under David Moyes.
01:16You know, wins at Newcastle, Fulham, Forest, Palace, Brighton, these are really tough places to go.
01:22If they can carry that away form into the new season, then certainly there'll be some more positives to take.
01:27So, you know, just look at Everton's season and the best moments, you know,
01:32probably that draw late on in the derby at Goodison as well was very special for them.
01:39Yeah, definitely. It was a fitting way for the final at Goodison's derby, wasn't it?
01:43And then it was fully there, just draw for Everton on the night.
01:47I don't think too many have had a complaint, many complaints if the Liverpool fans have won the games.
01:52I thought Everton were very good on the night and what a goal from James Tarkowski in the 97th minute.
02:00Rightly won Gold of the Year awards.
02:02But, yeah, as you say, it was difficult in the first half.
02:05The second half of the season was a lot better when David Moyes came in.
02:10The Palace win for me, actually, was really impressive because it was three days after the derby.
02:17And maybe not even three full days, I think the derby was a night game and that one was a far, far kick-off.
02:25And Everton went to the well there and they dug really deep to win a Palace.
02:30That was an impressive win for me.
02:32As you say, Brighton, difficult place to go.
02:35The Leicester performance.
02:36OK, Leicester have been poor this season, but they were really good.
02:40They were excellent for 70 minutes against Tottenham before letting Tottenham back into the game.
02:46And, you know, coming from behind against Fulham, difficult place to go.
02:50And Newcastle as well, you know, finished fifth in the tables, being the Champions League next season.
02:58I think they're the highs that you're looking at.
03:02It's been a big second half of the season.
03:04You touched on the away form.
03:05Now Everton needs to build on the home form going into the new ground
03:08because Goodson Park under David Moyes, especially, it was a fortress in his first spelling charge.
03:15You felt like Everton could beat any team at home.
03:19And going into the new grounds, that's something that David Moyes does have to address.
03:25Now, does Everton, just playing away from home, maybe suit Everton a little bit more on the counter-attack?
03:30Perhaps, yeah.
03:32So now they've got to find a way of winning at home now
03:35because you're looking at some of the result tips, which was disappointing.
03:41And Man United, the way they let the door open for them.
03:45And West Ham, they weren't great in when Moyes was in charge.
03:49So that's something that needs to be addressed in the summer.
03:53Yeah, I mean, the first half of the season was tough, wasn't it?
03:57They didn't win the first five games, got beaten the open four.
04:01Well, sort of picked up a little bit, but got a few draws around Christmas time.
04:07But last season, 23-24, the points deductions, Everton would have finished 12th, I think,
04:16without the points deductions.
04:18And that must have been difficult to manage internally as well.
04:24So, and David Moyes has said a few times,
04:26John Dyke left a lot of good things behind.
04:29It just needed a little bit of a refresh,
04:32someone coming in maybe with playing,
04:34giving the players a little bit more free,
04:36not being as rigid.
04:39But, yeah, that's it.
04:41You'll come back to the season.
04:42It'll be the second half, people are remembering.
04:44You'll come back to the season.
