00:00Now, it was a strange final season at Goodison Park, which was revived by the return of manager David Moyes.
00:08The grand old lady was the backdrop for some defiant performances, especially in high-stakes matches against relegation rivals,
00:16and it seemed like the Toffees found their identity once again.
00:21Emerging talents like Jared Bramthwaite and a resurgent midfield added to the optimism,
00:26giving fans belief that Everton are moving in the right direction.
00:31With stability returning and a foundation set, this season was about more than survival.
00:36It was about pride restored.
00:38We spoke to Will Rooney of Liverpool World to pick out the highlights from Everton's season,
00:45one defined by grit, progress and hope amid challenges off the pitch.
00:50Well, in terms of Everton and the positives of their season, I mean, you know, like other clubs, you know, Wolves, for example,
00:59it was a bit of a season of two halves with the managerial change halfway through.
01:04Before we get on to David Moyes and that probably being the main positives surrounding Everton,
01:09I mean, you have to look at and give them a real note for their away form under David Moyes.
01:13You know, wins at Newcastle, Fulham, Forest, Palace, Brighton, these are really tough places to go.
01:20If they can carry that away form into the new season, then certainly there'll be some more positives to take.
01:25So, you know, just look at Everton's season and the best moments, you know,
01:30probably that draw late on in the derby at Goodison as well was very special for them.
01:35Yeah, definitely. It was a fitting way for the final Goodison's derby, wasn't it?
01:40And it was a fully to their draw for Everton on the night.
01:44I don't think too many of them have complained, many complaints,
01:47if the Liverpool fans had won the games, I thought Everton were very good on the night
01:52and what a goal from James Tarkowski in the 97th minute, rightly won Gold of the Year awards.
01:59But, yeah, as you say, it was difficult in the first half.
02:02The second half of the season was a lot better when David Moyes came in.
02:07The Palace win for me, actually, was really impressive because it was three days after the derby
02:14and maybe not even three full days.
02:17I think the derby was a night game and that one was a half-half kick-off
02:21and Everton went to the well there and they dug really deep to win a Palace.
02:27That was an impressive win for me.
02:29As you say, Brighton, difficult place to go.
02:32The Leicester performance, OK, Leicester have been poor this season,
02:35but they were really good.
02:37They were excellent for 70 minutes against Tottenham
02:39before letting Tottenham back into the game.
02:42And, you know, coming from behind against Fulham, difficult place to go.
02:47And Newcastle as well, you know, finished fifth in the table,
02:52being the Champions League next season.
02:55I think they're the highs that you're looking at.
02:59It's been a big second half of the season.
03:01You touched on the away form.
03:02Now Everton needed to build on the home form going into the new ground
03:05because Goodson Park under David Moyes, especially,
03:09it was a fortress in his first spelling charge.
03:13You felt like Everton could beat any team at home.
03:16And going into the new grounds,
03:18that's something that David Moyes does have to address.
03:22Now, does playing away from home maybe suit Everton a little bit more
03:26on the counter-attack, perhaps, yeah.
03:29So now they've got to find a way of winning at home now
03:32because you're looking at some of the result tips,
03:35which was disappointing.
03:38And Man United really let the door open for them.
03:42And West Ham, they weren't great in when Moyes was in charge.
03:46So that's something that needs to be addressed in the summer.
03:50Yeah, I mean, the first half of the season was tough, wasn't it?
03:54They didn't win the first five games, got beaten the open four.
03:59Sort of picked up a little bit, but got a few draws around Christmas time.
04:04But Lampard, last season, 23-24, the points deductions,
04:12Everton would have finished 12th, I think, without the points deductions.
04:16And that must have been difficult to manage internally as well.
04:21And David Moyes has said a few times,
04:24Sean Dyke left a lot of good things behind.
04:26It just needed a little bit of a refresh,
04:29someone coming in maybe with giving the players a little bit more free,
04:33not being as rigid.
04:35But, yeah, that's it.
04:38You'll come back to the season.
04:39It'll be the second half of people remembering.
