Speaking to reporters on Monday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about President Trump threatening to block a stadium deal unless the Washington Commanders reverted back to their old name.
Transcript
00:00Six months, and I'm happy to take some questions.
00:02Go ahead.
00:03Was the president serious or was he joking?
00:05He said he might block a Washington commander's stadium deal if they don't change their name.
00:11The president was serious, and it's part of the art of the deal, part of his negotiating skills.
00:15As you know, sports is one of the many passions of this president,
00:19and he wants to see the name of that team changed.
00:21Why is he getting involved in that?
00:22Why does he see that as part of his purpose?
00:24I think you've seen the president gets involved in a lot of things that most presidents have not.
00:29He's a nontraditional president.
00:30He likes to see results on behalf of the American people,
00:33and if you actually poll this issue with sports fans across the country and even in this city,
00:38people actually do support the president's position on this and the name change.
00:42Michael.
00:42Thank you, Caroline.
00:44Michael, go ahead, and then, Mary, you can go.
