00:01The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center, or CICC, reports a massive decline in SMS and voice call scams in Q2 of 2025, compared to Q2 of 2024.
00:13However, malicious links found on social media and messaging apps such as Viber and Telegram increased quarter over quarter.
00:20The data comes from Gogolook's Who's Call app, which blocks spam, scans URLs, and flags scam numbers using its database and user reports.
00:28For comparison, Telco Globe reported 2.74 million scam texts in the first half of 2024, down from 4.85 million during the same period in 2023.
00:39CICC Deputy Executive Director Renato Paraiso proposed stricter measures to curb scam calls and texts, limit how many SIMs a person can register.
00:49He also cited the ongoing sale of pre-registered SIMs on Facebook Marketplace, which may still be used for illegal activities.
00:54While scams through traditional texts and calls have gone down, scammers seem to have shifted to Facebook, other social media platforms, and messaging apps such as Telegram and Viber.
