00:00Our female referee here. Listen to my instructions at all times, watch your head,
00:04no low blows. When I say great, step back, defend yourselves at all times, touch gloves.
00:10Interesting opener, live on DAZN and the chance to assess the excellent Georgian amateur Lasha
00:18Garuli as an early pro. He's in with the more experienced James Francis,
00:24who's tried a very different path, but really fancying his chances of causing a stir here.
00:33What a moment for the pair of them, Barry, on the biggest stage of the year.
00:38Of all the places, this is where you want to shine the most, isn't it? This place here tonight.
00:43It's about being smart as well for Francis, he's got to be the aggressor here, but also
00:46they're not walking on the silly shots against a really, really quality fighter in Garuli.
00:51He really was matched tough on his debut. In with the Garnet and Bernard Abbey,
00:58he had to get off the floor to win. He carries his left hand low, a style based on reflexes and speed
01:05that saw him do ever so well in the unpaid ranks. But James Francis, he's a pocket rocket type from
01:13Liverpool. One defeat on his slate in his eight outings.
01:17Well, it should work stylistically as he gets a right hand off, Darren.
01:23Yeah, and that defeat, as you mentioned, to Stefan Vincent, it was movement that frustrated Francis.
01:28He couldn't deal with the elusive movement of Vincent. Garuli, though, in front of him,
01:34trying to hold the center of the ring. Like I say, not your typical sort of top-class amateur
01:37style you're used to, but you can see he's got nice high guard, lively jab, quick hands,
01:42lots of variation. And what I've seen with him in the past, once he gets going, once he's hurt his
01:47opponent, he likes to get moving and really letting his shots go.
01:52Right hand, and you can see the reach advantage he has in there, jab and the speed of combination.
01:58Just catching Francis, who has got to be careful on his way in, but also needs to pressure the
02:05Garuli body and try and back him up and take him out of his comfort zone.
02:10Yeah, the thing with Francis, I understand what he's doing, he's sort of like, he's sitting on that
02:14back foot a little bit, trying to be a more hard attacker, so Garuli's got to reach over to him,
02:19but when you're advancing that way, you've got to be really, really slick and clever, so he's better
02:23off getting his chest almost over that front knee and trying to slip and slide your way in, so when
02:27Garuli throws that jab, you can, if your weight's on the front knee, you can slide in a little bit more,
02:32and then the combinations go with a bit more effective aggression.
02:35Yeah, you've got more chance of landing then, haven't you, and you're more poised to throw the
02:39shot when you're closer to the front foot as opposed to the back foot.
02:42Could he just on the right, for him it's the wrong distance and for Garuli it's the perfect
02:47distance for him, certainly the long shots go with quite ease you would say at the minute.
02:52Lovely work from Garuli, looking super sharp early on here against Francis,
02:58really has ability and yeah, sweet combination.
03:03The footwork Adam there, brilliant, three shots, he led with the right, went again,
03:08a really, really good, glided into range there.
03:11And a giveaway shot, the jab, he threw the jab, the missed, didn't he?
03:13It was almost like a feint split, let that right hand go and the straight left to follow.
03:17I think you'll want Francis to come to him, and at the moment he looks really in control here,
03:26Lasha Garuli, good fighter.
03:31in georgia we remember georgie candelaki don't we darren
04:00Yeah, very good fighter he was and Guruli demonstrating how good of a fighter he is in that opening round.
04:06You can see good variation, quick hands varying up his attacks, leading with the right every now and again
04:12and finishing with jams for the feet.
04:15Very, very good.
04:16And as Barry said there, Francis needs to take a leaf out of Guruli and bring those feet a bit closer to the Georgian.
04:27Looking so relaxed on that.
04:30Blue corner stool, the 28-year-old from George Elasha Guruli in his second fight, undefeated so far.
04:38Was really good in the amateur ranks, while bronze, European, silver, but it's that medal in Paris
04:45that has launched his pro career, really, and he launches that right hand, Barry, so snappily, doesn't he?
04:53Yeah, he's a good operator. There's nothing massively flat, but everything correct.
04:56That's a lovely little left hook there. The angle of the left, it was lovely, because it's almost hard to defend against.
05:01It comes at almost like a 40-degree angle.
05:03He means business here, really does Guruli.
05:05He wants to impress, he understands the opportunity here in front of thousands in the UK's national stadium.
05:12You have to give credit to Guruli as well, and it shows the ambition from the Georgian.
05:18His debut against a 6-0 Garnetian, and in with Francis here, 7-1, so I don't think they're going to hang around, Adam.
05:25I think they're going to move him quickly. He is 28, and he's got this pedigree to work on, and as you can see, unpredictable.
05:33The jab's lovely. He finds angles, I think, that are troubling James Francis here, who is a good amateur, and he's been a solid pro so far.
05:44He admits he's more of a street fighter, he's rough and ready, and he's getting outboxed and outclassed at the moment.
05:50He's been stopped from throwing shots here.
05:52What's good from Guruli here, he's set up for the attack, so he does quite a lot of throwaway shots.
05:59You just see it there, and again, he just, you know, you throw that jab out, not to land, but you should get him close for that uppercut through the middle,
06:05the left to go with the top. There's not a thought behind his work.
06:08And for Francis, he's got to come forward, but that'll be playing with Guruli's hands.
06:13But you've just got to accelerate when you come forward, believe in yourself.
06:16Sweet right hand from Guruli, the countering shot, and every time Francis comes forward,
06:21he's getting punished, and on the back foot, it's not a happy place either.
06:26These are two very, very good rounds from Lashley Guruli.
06:29Yeah, he looks good at them, he really does.
06:32Little step out of range, look at that right uppercut, fantastic shot.
06:35He's under the cost here, Francis.
06:37He's had some success with that already, hasn't he, Guruli, but that was a lovely time shot.
06:41Again, just not rushing his work, but putting pressure on Francis for finding the gaps and boxing really well.
06:47You see, very economically, very good, very misses with a shot here.
06:50These bright hands, and I think power's starting to get through as well.
06:56Top of the head shots are not what Francis needs to.
06:59Gets back with a springing right of his own.
07:02Guruli just concentrates on his own work.
07:05An uppercut, and there's a steely look to the way he's going about,
07:08and then a left hook sunk into the body too.
07:11A menacing look, just stalking his man.
07:14Look at the blood from the nose of Francis.
07:16The jab, the uppercut, look, with both hands.
07:20Really, really impressive stuff, this.
07:22Good right hand to finish the round as well.
07:24Really, really good opening too from Guruli.
07:29Eagis Klimas, Alexander, who's his manager, looking on at Guruli.
07:35And this is why he wanted him on this sort of a stage.
07:41It's a super night ahead from the UK on DAZN.
07:50Lucette de Bois, top of the bill.
07:53And then Jesse Bam Rodriguez, one of Barry's favourites, returns to action tonight.
08:00The WBC World Super Flyweight Champion, aiming to unify the division.
08:05He's in with the WBO belt holder, Fumeli Cafu, in Texas.
08:11Eddie Hearn and the team there.
08:12Frank Warren very much here tonight.
08:15The promoters split, but unified on DAZN.
08:19Water.
08:21Four more, ten seconds.
08:22I know you see him.
08:23Water.
08:24I'm not standing in front of this game.
08:25Class.
08:27He's boxing really well.
08:28Nice and controlled.
08:29He's dominating him again.
08:30It's a hard night so far here for Francis.
08:33Yeah, what can the 24-year-old two dogs, James Francis,
08:37in those black and gold trunks do now?
08:39He's got to try and stop the rod here, take some chances.
08:44It's a risky...
08:46The last thing to do, Steph, that...
08:48Not really, you shouldn't ask him to do it.
08:50He's got to come forward, but it's easy to say it's hard to do it,
08:53because you've got to walk on the punches.
08:55But where he is now, the distance he's finding now,
08:57is allowing Garuli's loads of time to set up his attack.
09:00So you have got to try and smother that work.
09:03That nose is busted as well.
09:04You can see the blood on the chest, the arms of Francis,
09:07and you can tell the body's anguish and the intent from Garuli.
09:11He does not want to go six rounds here.
09:13He wants to get the job done.
09:14He wants to look good, and he wants to move on.
09:17Well, he is looking good, Darren,
09:18and that jab is really starting to penetrate through the guard of Francis.
09:23The nose might be broken, could affect breathing.
09:26Might not be an issue in a six-rounder,
09:29but I tell you what,
09:30he's really getting battered and bruised here, Francis.
09:34And he's just, by dominating the first two rounds so conclusively,
09:38now he's given himself enough time here,
09:40and Francis is waiting to get hit.
09:41I know that sounds weird, but he sort of is.
09:43And it's a horrible place to be for any fighter,
09:46but Garuli's allowed the chance now just to try things out and set things up.
09:49And I think, you know, if he puts his foot on the gas here,
09:52he might very well get the stoppage.
09:53Wayne and Carl Smith, the brothers,
09:55alongside us in the red corner from the Golden Gloves gym.
09:58They're very close to James Francis,
10:01and they will be keeping an eye on this.
10:03They're not going to want to see him suffer round after round.
10:06That jab, Darren, so crisp.
10:09Yeah, he took the words out of my mouth.
10:10I like the way that he, when he throws the shots,
10:12he's very relaxed, but he commits to the shot.
10:15He doesn't pour the shots out.
10:16He doesn't anticipate or worry about a shot coming back.
10:21He really, really throws it with real menace and meaning.
10:25You can see the damage it's done,
10:27and look at the full, look at the concentration.
10:29He's right in front of us here, Garuli.
10:30Oh, right, I forgot again.
10:32Super shot from Garuli as Francis came in,
10:36and, well, he's lighting up Wembley early, isn't he, here?
10:40Flash of Garuli.
10:41If you haven't seen him before, you'll remember him tonight.
10:45Again, he has so much success with that right-up effect.
10:48The eye, looks like the eye's busted there to Francis.
10:51What's been good for Garuli, the jab, he's changed the jab.
10:53He's thrown him from the hip, he's thrown him from the shoulder,
10:55he's been fast with it, he's been heavy with it.
10:57I think they're having a close look in that corner
11:01at the state already of James Francis.
11:03It'll be interesting in the inter-round
11:05to see what they say to him
11:07because he really is on the end of heavy punishment here.
11:11Yeah, he's not winning this, Adam, you know,
11:13and you've got to have a look, his nose is busted
11:14and there's damage to the eye.
11:16Garuli's looking very, very dangerous.
11:19And look, you look at the record of Francis,
11:21only one stoppage from his seven wins,
11:23so it's very unlikely he's going to get a knockout here.
11:27It's a cracking story, James Francis, in life,
11:30and it's great that he's got here to Wembley tonight,
11:33but he is realising what it's like to be
11:37up in this sort of company
11:39against a world-class amateur
11:41who is performing in his second professional
11:45quite beautifully.
11:47Yeah, very, very good
12:00from Garuli.
12:02Just mixing it up,
12:04having everything his own way.
12:05You've got to give Francis so much credit.
12:08He's hanging in there.
12:09He's showing a good chin,
12:09but it's survival mode
12:12for Francis.
12:14The Georgian,
12:15desperate to get a stoppage here.
12:19Sometimes you just come up against someone
12:20who's a level above you,
12:21and I think that's what it's been for Francis here.
12:23A guy who's just, you know,
12:24got so much class,
12:24that amateur penalty showing
12:26in the program,
12:27and he's dominating everything here,
12:28so it's on him now,
12:30if he wants to close the show,
12:32if potentially you can do it,
12:33because Francis have not been able
12:35or willing or able,
12:36I would say,
12:37to really throw anything back.
12:38Yeah, James Francis,
12:39a decent novice.
12:40He's won his last four,
12:43but, yeah,
12:44different companies keeping tonight
12:45with this really classy-looking
12:48Lasher Garuli
12:49into the second half of this one.
12:52Had to go the full distance
12:53on his professional debut.
12:56Well, we talk about dominating,
12:58dictating the pace
12:59and the ring generalship,
13:01and that's what he's done,
13:01he's taken the centre ring,
13:02that jab,
13:03usually dictates everything,
13:04if you've got a good jab,
13:06and he has a good jab,
13:07and also the distance,
13:08how you fight,
13:09where you fight,
13:10where you fight your battles,
13:10and he's controlled that
13:12all throughout the contest so far.
13:13Yeah, he's done that so well,
13:14and I think the accuracy as well
13:16of Garuli
13:18is very, very good as well,
13:19because the hands
13:21are very, very high of Francis,
13:23and he's still managed
13:25to find the target.
13:27Sorry, Garuli,
13:28I meant to say.
13:29You sounded like me, then.
13:30You sounded like me.
13:32He wants to go in,
13:33doesn't he, Francis,
13:35but he knows what's going to happen
13:36if he does.
13:37He's got bucket loads of courage
13:39through his life.
13:41He's shown that,
13:42but in this ring,
13:45there's one guy,
13:46Barry,
13:47that just looks at different level.
13:48Yeah, sorry,
13:49I mean,
13:50maybe to try and dip it
13:52for that right hand over the top,
13:53but even the jab from Garuli,
13:54even if he throws it slow,
13:55the timing's good,
13:56so it comes back
13:57at a nice,
13:57even pace,
13:59so it's going to be hard
13:59to even fire that right hand
14:00over the jab.
14:01You have to go forward,
14:02but then you're walking
14:03on the shot,
14:04so it's just one of those things
14:05where you're damned if you do,
14:06you're damned if you don't.
14:07Do you go forward
14:08and really go for it
14:09and get the chance
14:09to get knocked out,
14:10or do you just do
14:11what you're doing now
14:12and hope that he makes a mistake
14:13and you can fire off that?
14:14On the flip side,
14:15Garuli,
14:15I want to see him
14:16go through the gears now.
14:17He's working well,
14:18but go again now.
14:19Three, four shots,
14:19go again.
14:20Tempo now,
14:21this is what will get the job done.
14:23Everything's been very,
14:24very good
14:25to see this change of tempo,
14:26go through the gears.
14:28Yep,
14:28give Amy Pugh
14:29maybe a reason
14:30to call a halt to this
14:32at some stage
14:33if he can
14:34sort of double
14:35and triple up
14:36these combinations,
14:37these bursts,
14:38that have been
14:39eye-catching really
14:40from Garuli
14:41since the opening bell.
14:43But that's all they've been.
14:44They've been good solid shots
14:45but eye-catching shots,
14:46nothing really heavy enough
14:47to think that Francis
14:48was going to look for the floor
14:49or really in trouble.
14:51He's just been totally
14:51outboxed here.
14:55Body shot
14:56good from Garuli
14:57and that nose again
15:00bleeding profusely.
15:03Remember, look,
15:04he would have gone in here
15:06ambitious,
15:07Francis,
15:07to win this fight
15:08to get his arm raised
15:09at the end.
15:09But now,
15:10look,
15:10it's a story in itself
15:12saying that,
15:12you know,
15:13you boxed up Wembley,
15:14you heard the final bell,
15:16you had a go
15:17and you can see it now,
15:19he's surviving.
15:21Fair play to Francis.
15:22He wasn't just ambitious,
15:23he was really,
15:24really up for this,
15:26fancying it all week
15:27and there's another right hand
15:28from Garuli
15:29and he just keeps walking
15:30into shots.
15:31As Barry said it,
15:32he's just in there
15:33with someone who's better than him.
15:35You know,
15:35it's about levels.
15:37And he's making mistakes now,
15:38but coming out like that
15:39with your chin up,
15:40that's a sign of just being
15:41a little bit lost in a fight
15:42and I think that's
15:43where he is right now.
15:44But this guy,
15:44he's controlling everything,
15:45that's all you can ask for.
15:46You know,
15:47you want more power
15:47than what you said,
15:48injection of pace
15:49to get the finish,
15:50but ultimately,
15:51he's just controlling it
15:53and if you're doing it
15:53that way and it's working,
15:54why change?
15:57Well,
15:57the action coming
15:58thick and fast.
16:00We were all at ring three,
16:01which was a brilliant night
16:03in New York last Saturday.
16:05Ring four,
16:05the night of champions
16:06on DAZN,
16:08November the 22nd.
16:09It's a great card again.
16:11Double main event,
16:13David Benavidez
16:14against Anthony Yard,
16:15Devin Haney
16:16against Brian Norman
16:18and many,
16:18many other fights on that.
16:20They were talking about
16:21Dalton Smith,
16:22weren't they?
16:22getting his world title shot
16:23on that card.
16:24I'm all for that.
16:25It's a great card though,
16:26isn't it?
16:26Oh,
16:27brilliant card.
16:28That'd be a fantastic fight
16:29to be added
16:30to an already tremendous card.
16:32Anthony Yard
16:33taking another massive risk.
16:35He's fearless.
16:36Sorry to interrupt,
16:37Barry,
16:37but they have called it off
16:39in the corner
16:40and that is a sensible decision
16:41from Wayne
16:43and Carl Smith
16:45in James Francis' corner.
16:47Absolutely spot on.
16:49Their man have been outboxed,
16:50outclassed for four rounds.
16:52He wasn't going to win it.
16:53He played his part.
16:55He did the best he could,
16:56but Lasha Guruli,
16:58well,
16:58he looked world-class tonight.
16:59I know it's early days,
17:01but the skills are there.
17:02Yeah,
17:02there's an awful lot
17:03to like about Guruli.
17:05Quick hands,
17:06good variation,
17:07the feet,
17:07the know-how,
17:08the ambition.
17:10There's power there.
17:11You can see the damage
17:12he's done.
17:12Not the single shot,
17:14you'd say,
17:14but the accumulation
17:15over time.
17:16Very,
17:17very good fighter
17:18and a good prospect
17:19added to this division.
17:21And I think
17:21he's the sort of fighter
17:22who will learn quite quickly,
17:23so I think
17:23he'll start to develop
17:24with more power
17:25and realise that
17:26he has to just
17:27up the pace
17:28every now and again.
17:29And so that was a good,
17:30that was a good learning fight
17:31for him.
17:31He'll go on to Strenford.
17:32But I think,
17:33again,
17:33in Francis' corner,
17:34they give him
17:35every opportunity
17:35to try and get into the fight.
17:36It didn't happen
17:37and I think
17:37at the end of the day,
17:38they made the right call there
17:39and that's a corner
17:40that cares.
