00:00Headers up is good. You got my instructions in the back, gentlemen.
00:03Protect yourselves at all times. The rest of my commands.
00:05Touch them up. Back to the front, gentlemen.
00:11Sometimes words aren't necessary.
00:13The crowd will tell you what this moment is all about
00:16as they await the first bell
00:18for Matty Pacquiao's return
00:21against Mario Barrios.
00:22Manny! Manny! Manny! Manny! Manny!
00:27Barrios told me,
00:29this is the biggest fight of my career.
00:32This is the grandest stage.
00:34And early on, we will know
00:35if we get vintage Manny Pacquiao
00:38or old Manny Pacquiao.
00:41And the difference is huge.
00:44Well, either way, this crowd has received Pac-Man's return
00:47in a big way, as you'd expect.
00:49You wonder what effect that will have on the judges
00:51because any time Pacquiao comes close to landing,
00:54you'll hear from the strong crowd in this arena.
00:57And you even heard me as well
00:58when he landed on the arms of Mario's.
01:02But yeah, it's at a move.
01:03Because, yes, these first two, three rounds,
01:06we're going to see if the timing is still there for Pacquiao.
01:10That was the one thing that was missing
01:14when I went to his public workout.
01:18It was the timing.
01:19That seemed to be off.
01:20I spoke to Freddie Roach about it.
01:21He says, look, the legs are still there.
01:24And tonight, it's about a great left hand for Manny
01:27against a great right hand from Mario's.
01:31There's a left from Manny Pacquiao.
01:33Yeah, so far, it's a big left from Manny Pacquiao.
01:36No punches thrown yet from Mario's.
01:38Mario's still feeling out, Manny.
01:40But you have to believe this will be as quick.
01:43And resource falls, Manny will be all night.
01:45And so far, he looks good, jacking to the body consistently.
01:49And you know that Barrios does not want to make a mistake
01:52against the experience.
01:53Manny Pacquiao has been in there against the greats of the greats.
01:58So being cautious in this first round.
02:00Guys, Mario Barrios made no bones about it.
02:05He says, the longer the fight goes on, the more it favors me.
02:09And we know that Pacquiao needs to have this kind of quick start.
02:13Pacquiao split the guard during that sequence.
02:16That left-hand speed is still there.
02:18But there's a right hand of Mario Barrios trying to establish
02:21some respect from the Pac-Man.
02:23The first right hand that Mario Barrios drew
02:25and it landed plush on Pacquiao.
02:28And it seemed like it didn't hurt him,
02:29but definitely got him off balance.
02:35Mario's trying to establish the jab.
02:39And it almost seems like he wants Pacquiao
02:41to get some sense of confidence for him to come in.
02:45And do something like that.
02:47Open up and they land a quick, sharp uppercut.
02:49There's that left for Matty Pacquiao.
02:53He's got to stay active with it, though.
02:57And Matty's got to be able to move his feet consistently,
03:00something he couldn't do in the Ugas fight
03:02the last time we saw him back in 2021.
03:06It's a nice jab for Matty Pacquiao
03:07despite the 4-inch disparity.
03:10But it's the quickness that makes Matty Pacquiao dangerous.
03:14And look, against Ugas, he told members of his team,
03:17I could see the shots, I couldn't get there.
03:19Tonight, he's getting there.
03:21Mm-hmm, definitely, yes.
03:24There's not much punches thrown in this room,
03:26but the punches that he did throw were effective.

03:43The crown is yours.
03:47Brought to you by Universal Pictures' Nobody 2.
03:52Only in theaters, August 15th.
03:54You've got him coming in, all right?
03:59So that's what you want to get.
04:00You want him to get him coming in.
04:02Enjoy the distance.
04:03So, it's fun, sweet, now, go.
04:04Sector, come here, do.
04:05Okay?
04:06Gawin mo nalang.
04:08Lag-glagan mo nalang.
04:09Dalaw ang ulo mo, ha?
04:10Baka, hindi natin alam kung nasisipat siya mo.
04:13So, dalaw ang ulo, dalaw ulo, ulo.
04:14One, two, patak, out.
04:15One, two, out.
04:16Right hand to the body, left hand to the head.
04:17Yeah.
04:18Combinations.
04:19Paktumabur ang kanan.
04:21Amen.
04:21Hukit mo.
04:22Hukit mo.
04:22Let's go, gawin.
04:23Asking Manny Pacquiao to throw combinations to the body.
04:29But he's got to be very aware of that powerful right hand from Mario Barrios.
04:3318 knockouts in 29 victories.
04:36You see, Barrios now coming out to meet Manny Pacquiao in the center of the ring.
04:39Wants to establish the fact that he's the champion.
04:42Will this be the round after a feeling out round?
04:44He starts off with a good jab.
04:46He has to take the lead, meaning Barrios with the output to control the terms of this fight.
04:53And really, as he said all week, make Manny look and feel like the older fighter.
04:57Yeah.
04:58Again, you know, it felt like the first round was definitely a study round for Barrios.
05:03He saw what he needed to see.
05:04He landed the right hand.
05:06Pacquiao comes in forward, opens up.
05:08So, now it's Barrios trying to get the jab going.
05:11But again, Pacquiao, you see the old Pacquiao coming in with the play, stepping back and getting back on that jab.
05:17It was a quick one-two from Pacquiao.
05:19But what was not quick was his exit.
05:21You see the feet get tangled there.
05:23As Thomas Taylor, the third man in the ring, immediately sees that it was the feet getting tangled.
05:29It'll happen to happen when a southpaw, the orthodox spider, step in the ring together.
05:33It happens all the time.
05:34But even a knockout, sometimes when you go down, even if it was no punch, you kind of get a little bit distracted.
05:40It's been a Barrios, but no, he's getting back on that jab.
05:44Pacquiao has the chance to achieve many different historic feats tonight.
05:48One of them is becoming the first boxer in history to hold a world title in four different decades.
05:54Incredible to think about.
05:57And the fact that he would be the first ever inducted International Boxing Hall of Famer to not only come back,
06:04but to also be crowned a world champion.
06:07But to do that, there's a lot that yet needs to be done.
06:12That was a nice jab, and followed by a body shot early as well from Barrios.
06:16He definitely needs to work the body against the older 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao.
06:21Break him down.
06:24That's it.
06:25That was a very ill-intentioned counter right that Barrios wanted to punish Pacquiao.
06:31That's a nice knock, and then a jab counter from Barrios.
06:35So there's an answer from Barrios now in the second round.
06:40There's an answer from Barrios, the right hand.
06:42But Pacquiao's landing some shots too, and let's not forget, guys, Manny Pacquiao still possesses that power,
06:48the old man power people talked about in the scoring sessions, that he was hurting people.
06:52And once again, he's in against a bigger fighter.
06:56Barrios' team said they wanted him to come in at around 168 pounds on fight night.
07:02Pacquiao nowhere near there.
07:05Remember, Barrios hasn't been on the fight at this level exactly,
07:08but he's been on the pay-per-view level twice in losses to Gervonta Davis and Keith Thurman,
07:12and he talked so much this week about what he learned from those
07:16in terms of maturity, education, patience.
07:20Pacquiao was patient and countered with a short right, which is not his M.O.
07:24He's a big left-hand guy, but early on he was seen as a one-handed puncher.
07:33Good round for Mario Barrios here.
07:36Listen in to Bob Santos.
07:39Hey, real quick.
07:41All you have to do is use your jab.
07:45All you have to do is use your jab and don't force it to the body,
07:49but every opportunity we got to start touching the body, okay?
07:52Go ahead, man.
07:52That's what I'm going to say.
07:53Keep on jabbing.
07:54Every time you get foot, you start touching the body, all right?
07:57Let's put that right hand when you miss it to that body.
08:00You got to be practicing, right?
08:02You're doing perfect.
08:03Perfect start to the fight.
08:05And here is the one-two that Manny Pacquiao landed on Mario Barrios
08:10Well, Mario Barrios had a response for that,
08:13and that was a straight jab to the face of Manny Pacquiao.
08:20You got the cup, Rick.
08:21You got the right hand to the body.
08:25Let's see it, Mario.
08:26Touch him to the body.
08:28Touch him to the body.
08:29What we're seeing early on is that first step offensively is there.
08:35What's not really there is the exit strategy for Manny Pacquiao.
08:41Ooh, I get it there right hand.
08:42Yep.
08:45Now it's Barrios starting off with a jab,
08:48using his height advantage and reach advantage.
08:51Six and a half inches taller,
08:53four inches longer on that reach.
08:56Bob Santos is such a key to the confidence and execution of Mario Barrios.
09:01And remember, that was Barrios' original trainer when he turned pro in 2013.
09:06They went 16-0 together.
09:07They parted ways.
09:08And since they've returned in 2023,
09:11you've seen a more confident Barrios since 3-0-1 overall,
09:15including winning a world title.
09:16Oh, really?
09:17He has blown with Bob Santos.
09:18He's been really alert, really cautious, speaking of Barrios.
09:30Manny looked like he was motioning to Barrios,
09:32telling him to raise the punches after a couple were on that belt line.
09:36Barrios says, hey, you're not the referee.
09:38That guy's got to tell me what to do.
09:40Well, that's a key part of it.
09:41We're going to wait for this turning point where Barrios stops respecting Pacquiao.
09:44That could either be the point that begins his undoing if he gets caught,
09:47or that downhill ride as the younger man with the younger legs.
09:51And when you come to that word respect,
09:54these both warriors have been touching up gloves
09:56at the beginning of each round as a sign of respect.
09:59But Barrios said, I have to lose that respect.
10:02And his trainer, Bob Santos, said,
10:04look, at the end of the day, I need my guy to have a killer instinct
10:07because you ask guys like Oscar De La Hoya,
10:11Antonio Margarito, Eric Morales,
10:14Marco Antonio Barrera,
10:15what happens when you don't match this guy's killer instinct?
10:19It doesn't end well.
10:20It does not.
10:21And there's a response from Barrios.
10:23Good body shots.
10:24Good body shots.
10:25And here you see Thomas Taylor saying,
10:27you may be Manny Pacquiao,
10:28but I established the belt line early on before the fight started.
10:32He's very particular about that.
10:35And you love that out of a referee of Thomas Taylor's pedigree.
10:39Yeah, and for me, guys,
10:40I don't think it's much so the respect that Barrios is showing for Pacquiao right now.
10:45I think it's just like he's trying to figure him out.
10:47He's got the jab going.
10:48Okay, he's trying to land the body shot.
10:50He's landed a couple of them.
10:51But at the same time, he does not want to make mistakes.
10:53There's a nice sleeping left there for Manny Pacquiao.
10:57There's that jab, though he can't get away from the jab of Mario Barrios.
11:00He's just too slow on the defensive end tonight.
11:04He knows that sooner or later, Pacquiao's going to faint.
11:08So he believes and hopes.
11:11Barrios has a four-inch reach advantage,
11:13but he's six-and-a-half-inch height advantage.
11:15That's the tallest opponent at six foot even that Manny has yet to face.
11:19He's got a right uppercut now, a left uppercut from Mario Barrios.
11:24Getting more confident.
11:26And that means that Manny Pacquiao will start to open up
11:29and get caught by shots like that right.
11:34The crowd's loving it.
11:36At the MGM Grand Garden Arena,
11:38La Casa de Manny Pacquiao.
11:46Do not allow him, the referee, to fucking fight
11:49Okay, so whatever he does, let the ref do the pressing, okay?
11:52So if he complains with something, he ain't the referee.
11:56Don't go at him in the direct line.
11:57When we start complaining about that, those are clean bulls.
12:00You gotta come to him.
12:01You don't like the body shots, okay?
12:03He's not the referee.
12:04Let the ref do his job.
12:05You do yours.
12:06Go ahead.
12:06It's working.
12:06Right on.
12:07What line is that right hand of the body?
12:09Let's be fresh.
12:11Early in the round, the right hand by Barrios.
12:14Straight right hand.
12:17Twice.
12:17He noticed that the first one didn't land flush,
12:20and he went for the second one.
12:22And here it is again.
12:23Getting desperate.
12:24Manny Pacquiao lunging in.
12:26Guard down.
12:27And Barrios taking advantage of that
12:28and landing that right hand.
12:31Manny Pacquiao still draws a crowd.
12:34At age 46, people understand that
12:37if anybody can defy father time,
12:40if anyone can make history once again,
12:42it's the man in the black trunks
12:45with the orange trim.
12:47The man you know by just one name.
12:49That's how you know Anati has made it.
12:51If you're Pelé,
12:52if you're Maradona,
12:53if you're Cristiano,
12:54well, if you hear the name Manny
12:56or Pacquiao,
12:57you're not thinking Manny Machado.
12:59This is a people's champ right here.
13:02Everyone loves Manny.
13:04He's a great person.
13:04Oh, hold on here.
13:06One of those stiff jabs there from Barrios.
13:08It looked like it snapped the head of Pacquiao back
13:10during that sequence.
13:11Yeah, he kind of shook him up a little bit.
13:14But then he didn't follow up.
13:20I mean, we're seeing in pockets
13:22the limitations,
13:23the age of Manny Pacquiao.
13:25As long as his balance
13:26and his stamina can hold form,
13:28he's still a threat in this fight.
13:29But when one of those goes,
13:31it could really turn quickly.
13:32And that jab did catch Manny
13:33a little bit off balance,
13:35and that's why it seemed to be
13:36more damaging than it was.
13:40Already, though,
13:40he's moving a lot more
13:42than he did against Ugas.
13:43So, four years ago,
13:45in which he said
13:45he was getting leg massages
13:47three times a day.
13:48He cramped up in that fight.
13:50Since then,
13:50they've switched course.
13:51Massages once a week,
13:52and he says he feels
13:53a lot younger because of that.
13:56Yeah, no cramps here in this fight
13:58so far for Manny Pacquiao.
13:59Moving a lot more.
14:01Feet movement, the quickness.
14:03But again,
14:04Barrios not yet
14:05throwing a lot of punches
14:07like Ugas did
14:08against Manny Pacquiao,
14:09and that gave Manny problems.
14:11And there it is.
14:12Every time that Barrios
14:13throws punches,
14:15he lands.
14:15He hurts Pacquiao.
14:17That was a nice counter
14:18from Mario Barrios
14:20that Manny Pacquiao
14:20tried to get a couple
14:21of other shots in,
14:22and there's
14:22a leaping uppercut there
14:25from Mario Barrios.
14:26Now establishing the jab
14:28against the veteran.
14:30Look,
14:30if he can get
14:31Manny Pacquiao
14:32walking backwards,
14:34that's the fight.
14:35Mm.
14:35Yeah, you gotta start
14:37getting the attention
14:38of Manny
14:38by doing that.
14:40The jab.
14:40Push him back.
14:41The jab is the key.
14:42That's the key
14:42to wear Manny down.
14:43Really pull out
14:44that gas tank.
14:46I like the bigger
14:47fighter you are.
14:48Another nice right
14:48uppercut also
14:49from Mario Barrios.
14:50Maybe not landing
14:51clean,
14:52but he's getting there
14:53and he's making
14:54Manny Pacquiao
14:55think before he commits.
14:56Even though Barrios
14:59has had the upper hand
15:00for most of this round,
15:01you can still see him leery
15:02of the speed
15:03of that left-hand
15:04cover from Pacquiao.
15:16You want to see
15:17that straight left
15:18to the body
15:19from Manny Pacquiao.
15:20Let's not forget.
15:20Ooh, beautiful.
15:21Sled down to the face
15:22from Manny.
15:25That right cross
15:26from Barrios.
15:26Landed flush, however.
15:29It's the back and forth
15:30between these two fighters.
15:32You can feel the tension
15:33and also the respect.
15:34out there.
15:42.
15:46.
15:47.
15:49The last round, the shots, the straight punches, the right hand to the body are landing easy right now on Manny Pacquiao, and I love that.
16:14He gets back to that jab. Straight punches, straight right hand, and back to his jab.
16:21Deep breath. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
16:25Joe Coy, the famous comedian who's going to be teaming up with Gabriel Iglesias Fluffy to sell out SoFi Stadium in March of 2026.
16:35Tonight he says, you can't be a Filipino and not be a fan of Manny Pacquiao.
16:39And look, if we're honest, we're all fans of Manny Pacquiao. It's a one-of-one athlete, and the way people beloved and remember him is also special.
16:49These fans came not to support. They believe that he can win, ultimately.
16:53And you certainly saw that the way the betting line changes. We got closer.
16:57Yeah, no, no, you're right.
16:58And so far Pacquiao's showing some grits and showing some good shots, but again, the hard shots are landed by Barrios.
17:05There's a quick darting Manny Pacquiao. As you see, an unofficial scorer, Larry Hazard, has the fight.
17:12A draw now after four rounds, giving the champion the last two.
17:16Edner, do you get the feeling Barrios is showing too much respect, or is there enough of a threat coming back that this is how you have to break Pacquiao down?
17:32I think that there's enough of a threat from Manny Pacquiao. Aggression, the fast punches that has Barrios thinking.
17:41He's not, again, he does not want to make a mistake. So little by little, this is the fifth round.
17:45There's going to come a point, if we know Bob Santos, where he's going to tell him and he's going to urge him.
17:49Okay, it's time to step it up. Act like the bigger guy and the younger guy. Push him back.
17:54That's a nice left there for Manny Pacquiao. Partially parried by Mario Barrios, but you can see why he is leery of throwing that right hand until he has an opportunity.
18:05And he did say, I'm going to take him to deep waters. I want to see how much he has left.
18:11How those legs are cramping or not cramping. Past six, eight, ten rounds.
18:17I know I'm young. I know I'm 30 years old. I'm in my prime. He is not.
18:23Barrios is starting to time that counter right hand perfectly after Pacquiao finishes his combination attempts.
18:29Yeah, Pacquiao can get that jab off his face from Barrios.
18:33Come on, that overhand right counter. There's that stick once again.
18:38I mean, to be honest, Barrios could just jab his way to victory tonight if he wants to.
18:45I don't think that's the way it's going to play out, but he could.
18:49I believe that's what Bob Santos hold. He could just jab, son. Keep jabbing.
18:54And every jab, there it is, and Lentz every time he throws it.
18:57Come on, come on, come on.
19:03After, when Pacquiao lunges, he leaves himself square.
19:10That's a dangerous place to be.
19:12I mean, I just got one word. Marquez.
19:16That's exactly what happened.
19:18Marquez timed it well. He pointed in with his hands out.
19:21Got him with the straight overhand.
19:23Overhand left, I'm sorry, right, and knocked him out.
19:26It's the last time Pacquiao's been knocked down in his career.
19:29That was 2005.
19:31Good kick pass from Matty Pacquiao to close out the fifth round of this fight.
19:36And you see the crowd is loving the action.
19:40He's feeling tough, okay?
19:42Take a deep breath.
19:45Look, don't come in a direct line.
19:48But if you've got to use your jab and push him back, we've got to hold ground and push him back.
19:53He's getting gassed.
19:54So you put that pressure on him, mentally he's in a gaffe.
19:56But don't come in a direct line.
19:58Angle, angle, angle, and use the jab.
20:01Touch the body every single time underneath, okay?
20:03But we've got to hold ground and push him back.
20:05Go ahead and go forward, but knock him out.
20:08Let's start pushing him back.
20:09Make him feel old.
20:10Start double-tripling in your jab.
20:11When he goes out left hand, catch him, get his body, right?
20:16Let's go.
20:16Let's start making him feel old, all right?
20:17This is the round where we start pressing him, all right?
20:20Small step control.
20:21Make sure you'll be in your face.
20:22Behind the jab.
20:24Let's go.
20:24Let's go.
20:24Let's go.
20:25Smart, all right?
20:26He's gassed.
20:27He's gassed.
20:27Number one, baby!
20:28Under us!
20:30Champions, baby!
20:31Pacquiao of old used to throw five, six punch combinations like it was nothing.
20:36Tonight, that's just not part of the repertoire.
20:39No.
20:39And even when he's throwing three punch combinations, he's finishing with his hands down a little bit off-balance,
20:44which is something we're not used to seeing in a Pacquiao fight.
20:47Yeah, no, of course not.
20:49But, you know, being smart, Pacquiao, he doesn't want to gas out, leave everything in one round.
20:53So, whenever he sees an opportunity, he lets those hands go.
20:57Four, three, four punches, but not the six, seven combinations.
21:00And then the side steps that we were used to seeing from Matty Pacquiao.
21:03That's a big part of it, the footwork to exit.
21:06That's why he looks so, let's just say it, old against Ugas.
21:10And that was a much younger version of Pacquiao.
21:13It was a body shot there with a left from Matty Pacquiao to the solar plexus on Mario Barrios.
21:18He's got to keep working that body shot, Matty Pacquiao.
21:21Let's not forget that last time Barrios fought a softball, it was against Tank Davis.
21:26And Tank Davis knocked him down with that body shot.
21:28Oh, nice jab from Barrios.
21:33That was stiff and right in the face of Matty Pacquiao.
21:36And that's what Bob Santos wants from him.
21:38We heard him say that, and don't forget, Santos is an accomplished trainer.
21:42He's been in many Matty Pacquiao camps in the past.
21:45As an assistant, helping out, he knows Pacquiao, and that played a big role in their preparation.
21:50Matty, Matty, Matty, Matty, Matty, Matty, Matty.
21:56Just listen to that crowd.
21:58And they're filming this.
22:00The collar shot's there for Barrios.
22:02Flush to the chin.
22:10And for Pacquiao right now, it's not how many punches are the speed.
22:14It's the right punches that he needs to throw.
22:16Body shots, straight left.
22:18Jab, wait for the right moment.
22:21But don't go in flurries like you used to because, again, you're leaving yourself exposed.
22:26Barrios, a 16-punch connect advantage through the first six rounds.
22:30And here's Pacquiao darting in.
22:33Barrios not making him pay.
22:35Yeah.
22:36It was right there, too.
22:37And he uses his shoulder there to get Matty Pacquiao off of him.
22:40And you wonder, how many of these surges is Pacquiao going to have each round as this fight goes on?
22:46That's right, that's uppercut.
22:50And you can see how Pacquiao talks to Barrios.
22:53And that's why it was so important when Bob Santos says, do not allow him to referee this fight.
23:02He always, you know what?
23:03Morales told me.
23:04He would say, break, break, break.
23:06Oh, Matty Pacquiao would say that?
23:07Yeah.
23:08And the muscle memory right there, you were just, okay, I'll break it.
23:15Yeah.
23:16Nice stiff jab there from Mario Barrios.
23:19That's a jab from a darting shot from Matty Pacquiao.
23:23Lead left hand.
23:24Not much power on him, but a guy called Barrios not ready for him.
23:28This was a really good job for Pacquiao, but it got down and close.
23:32For Barrios.
24:02It's a party inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
24:33Matty Pacquiao's record 16th main event in this building.
24:38And he's had some success, and he's had forgettable nights as well.
24:43Joe Goosen at the midway point of this fight.
24:47What do you perceive?
24:49Let me give you the score first, what I think.
24:52I think Matty won the first two rounds.
24:54I thought Barrios won the next three.
24:56And I think the last one, maybe Pacquiao eked it out with that combination at the end of the round.
25:01Okay, it's all beauties in the eye of the hole, but that being said, look, Manny's hanging tough for a 46-year-old right now.
25:09He's in this fight.
25:10He hasn't really gotten hurt.
25:11His balance isn't beautiful anymore, but he's still, you know, his legs are still right there.
25:16So that's a good combination he threw there.
25:20It's going to impress the judges.
25:22It just impressed me.
25:24There's two of them.
25:25Now, Barrios has got to get those back, or else Manny's on top by two combinations.
25:30So, you know, it's an ebb and flow right now, but look, Manny at 46 years old, it's pretty unbelievable right now.
25:38And Barrios, of course, you know, he's going to probably get better in the second half of this fight, but we'll see.
25:44That's the expectation.
25:46Thank you very much, Joe.
25:47You're welcome.
25:47But Barrios will have to get to his average of 20 power punches thrown per round, because through six rounds, he hasn't topped 19 power punches thrown in a single round.
25:58There were some good surges there from Pacquiao, including that lead right hook, but Freddie Roach telling him in the corner, we need five, six punch combinations.
26:06He said, this fight could be over.
26:08You've got to be careful balancing that gas tank if you're Pacquiao on the flip side.
26:12And you saw that counter left after.
26:13Yeah, how effective it was for him.
26:15That was really effective.
26:16You see what Pacquiao's doing.
26:18He's moving to his right now.
26:21Explain why that's so important.
26:22So he's moving to his right.
26:24He's taking that right away from Barrios.
26:25So every time he steps to the right, there's no right that Barrios can land, because his whole body is in a different angle.
26:33Really smart for Matty Pacquiao, double jabbing, turning to the right.
26:36But he can't land the jab, though, from there.
26:39Yeah, but the left is there for Matty.
26:43This really is, as Joe said, remarkable that we're seeing Pacquiao at this age, after this layoff.
26:49Almost fighting on even terms here with Barrios.
26:53Oh, what a nice right from Barrios, but the answer from Matty Pacquiao.
26:57If they are in the center of the ring, Matty Pacquiao on the inside can do damage.
27:03Yeah, now Barrios is letting Pacquiao lead it first.
27:07Get in first, take the initiative, get the jab going.
27:10And remember, Barrios' jab was effective and had Pacquiao off balance.
27:17But now he's allowed the crowd to get into this fight as well.
27:22And it's a pro-Manny Pacquiao fight inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
27:27Barrios keeping his nerve, keeping his cool.
27:30But at some point, he needs to do that and establish himself as the champion.
27:36Part of that dominance early on or in the middle rounds with Mario Barrios using that jab after him.
27:42It's a close fight, the jab, how Barrios started, and here it is.
27:47So effective.
27:48Pushing Manny Pacquiao back, getting him off balance, setting everything with that jab.
27:54And you said it earlier, Bernardo.
27:55You can win this entire fight simply with that jab.
28:00Hold that cup, Rich.
28:02You got it.
28:06He's starting to break down.
28:08He's going to look for one big shot.
28:09He's going to take pain on my level when he's fighting, man.
28:13He's going to have to come in.
28:14He's going to be on the inside, so he's going to be on the floor.
28:17Manny's going to cruise.
28:18You guys are going to cruise the whole time.
28:20Yes.
28:20All right?
28:21He's going to start making the fuck up the field.
28:23Yeah, bring it down.
28:25Let's go, Mario.
28:25Let's go, baby.
28:26Be alert, baby.
28:27Be alert.
28:30Round eight of a scheduled 12-round WBC welterweight title fight.
28:37Bernardo Osuna alongside three-division champion Abner Madis.
28:41Combat sports specialist Brian Campbell.
28:45The Hall of Famers.
28:45Jim Gray, Joe Goosen, and our very own host, Brian Custer, on the call today.
28:53Nice straight left for Manny Pacquiao.
28:56He's finding spots for his quick shots here.
28:58The timing is absolutely beautiful here.
29:02I'm impressed.
29:04A 46-year-old man.
29:05The timing's there.
29:07I mean, he talked about it.
29:08He said the training camp was good.
29:11Everything was working perfectly.
29:12And we're seeing it right now.
29:13The fight really close as we're seeing 66, 67 in favor of Manny Pacquiao.
29:18That's Larry Hazard's unofficial scorecard.
29:22And look, he may look like a 40-year-old, but he's not that 40-year-old we saw against
29:26Manny Pacquiao.
29:27And he's nothing near a 46-year-old through eight rounds tonight.
29:31I think some of that is Pacquiao.
29:33Look, he's a busy politician.
29:34He's here from Barrios.
29:36Go ahead.
29:36Pacquiao, he's busy in politics, philanthropy.
29:39If he's unfocused, if he's not putting in the works, sometimes you get a different Pacquiao.
29:43I think that's what we saw in the loss to Jeff Warren in 2017.
29:47Look what happened when he came back two years later.
29:50Looked completely different going through Broner and Thurman.
29:53Yeah, listen, there was that question.
29:55Even Barrios had, why did Manny Pacquiao choose me?
29:58Why me?
29:59Am I the weakest link?
30:01Well, I'm going to give you a simple answer.
30:03I think that Barrios waits too much.
30:05He takes his sweet time, and he's giving Pacquiao these opportunities to go in with the Flurries,
30:11take his time.
30:12He does not put the pressure for this older man.
30:14So that is the answer.
30:16If Barrios was able to pressure him and throw a lot more punches like Hugo's did,
30:20it would be a whole different story.
30:21And that's a temperament issue with Mario Barrios.
30:25It's not the key against Pacquiao.
30:27It's been his M.O.
30:31You can't give Pacquiao an inch here.
30:33They'll take a lot more.
30:36Look at that.
30:37He's giving you enough space, time to think, Barrios.
30:41And Pacquiao, he's taking it.
30:42He's taking a breather.
30:43He's relaxing, and boom.
30:45And that's his punch as well.
30:46It's so effective.
30:47The left hand was partially blocked by Barrios,
30:49who's been very responsible defensively tonight.
30:53Made very few mistakes.
30:55Remember what Pacquiao revealed this week.
30:56He didn't pick Barrios.
30:58His wife, Jinky, did.
30:59Watching Barrios' last fight, the draw with Albel Ramos,
31:03saying, I think you can beat that guy.
31:05Well, so far, it's looking that way.
31:08This is a close fight.
31:13Unbelievable that we're here at this point in his career.
31:15Unbelievable that Manny's still here at this point in this fight.
31:18And he's competitive and taking the lead in round number eight
31:24as a ten-second clap sounds.
31:26And Manny Pacquiao, just like the old times,
31:29getting the crowd on their feet.
31:33Big crowd for Manny Pacquiao.
31:34And Bob Sankos is going to have to light a fire under Barrios.
31:40Beautiful combination.
31:53Beautiful combination.
31:56Great job.
31:57Very good.
32:00I know I'm excited.
32:03I know you're on the floor.
32:04I know you're on the floor.
32:05Don't do you find me right down?
32:06I'm going to go down.
32:07We're back.
32:08We're back.
32:08We're going down to go down.
32:09Yeah.
32:10You're on the floor.
32:11Oh, I'm going down to go down.
32:12You're gonna pick up?
32:13I'm going down to go down.
32:16You're going to go down to go down.
32:17Oh, everything is okay.
32:18We're going down to go down.
32:19There is Jinky, Maddie Pacquiao's wife, his daughter's also in attendance.
32:32She knows what she saw.
32:34She also was here the night that he got knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.
32:38So for her to say, you have what it takes, Abner, it's usually the wife who tells you
32:45the true version of who you are at your best and at your worst.
32:49You're so honest, he will tell you the truth.
32:52And if Jinky said, Maddie Pacquiao, you got what it takes to do Barrios, but guess what?
32:56He's proving it tonight.
32:58We do wonder though, is that a little fool's gold in there?
33:00That was a down performance from Barrios in his own opinion.
33:03He said he was ill during training camp, he was more focused on making weight, and he
33:07definitely faded down the second half.
33:09He's got to prove tonight that he is that younger fighter in command in the championship rounds.
33:14And so far, through eight rounds at the beginning of round number nine, stamina not
33:19an issue from Manny Pacquiao.
33:21It was.
33:22How will his legs look?
33:23Will he still have that spring in his step?
33:26And so far, Abner, you have a better eye for this.
33:29What are you seeing?
33:30I'm seeing a really focused Manny Pacquiao, an energized Manny Pacquiao.
33:35This is the ninth round.
33:36He's throwing a lot of punches.
33:38He's moving a lot.
33:39And it almost looked like this is the younger guy's a 46-year-old man.
33:43He's moving and doing a lot more than Barrios.
33:46Look, only Pacquiao knows how much is truly left in the tank.
33:49But you wonder, is the combination of this crowd and the passion Pacquiao has for this sport,
33:54is that enough to lift him to victory?
33:56I think so.
33:57Look, I just saw Barrios have a really good body shot counter.
34:01But it's just the numbers are adding up for Manny Pacquiao here in the last four rounds.
34:06It's just he's running numbers on Barrios, and he's just not finding answers.
34:11Yes.
34:12To answer your question, Brian, yes, you feed off the energy of the people.
34:16And that's what Manny Pacquiao's known for, the crowd.
34:18They love Manny Pacquiao.
34:19They know he can't do it.
34:21And I'm a believer right now.
34:22And they may not be six-punch flurries, but they are three-and-four-punch combinations from the Pac-Man.
34:29And it's enough to give Barrios doubt.
34:32It's enough to discipline him just enough to prevent him from letting go of those combinations,
34:37including that straight right hand.
34:38And more importantly, it's enough for the judges to believe what they're seeing in the ring with their own eyes.
34:45But for Barrios, when you start thinking, come on, I'm the younger guy, I'm stronger, I'm bigger,
34:51I gotta start pushing this old man back.
34:54It's not there yet.
34:56Look, there's 35 seconds left in this ninth round.
34:59And right before he started this ninth round, Bob Santos told Mario Barrios,
35:05do not allow him to steal rounds from you, because this happens.
35:09The crowd gets going, and Manny gets going.
35:14Let's see what kind of response Barrios has.
35:17I'll tell you one thing, the jab is gone.
35:20There it is, right on cue.
35:21The jab is totally gone from Mario Barrios.
35:25That's what was dictating the fight in the beginning of the game.
35:28That allows Pacquiao to get close to land these shots.
35:31Let's take, let's take sure we take these last three rounds in the bank.
35:47But now let's close the show, okay?
35:51Last three rounds in the bank.
35:54Okay?
35:55Use the shit out of that jab and bang the body.
35:58And when you hurt him with a body shot, he lifted off an angle.
36:02And pressed.
36:02Great.
36:05And this is how Manny Pacquiao is winning rounds.
36:09He throws a combination of punches, a flurry.
36:12One, two, one, two.
36:13Boom.
36:14Four, one, two.
36:15And he's going straight back, Mario Barrios.
36:17But he, he, he opens up.
36:20He leaves himself open for Barrios to counterbunch.
36:23But he does not pull the trigger.
36:27There's Sebastian Fundora defended his title successfully against the man.
36:31He took it from Tim Zhu just moments ago.
36:35And now Manny Pacquiao looking to make history again.
36:39Let's go.
36:40How do you give a 46-year-old a break in the corner?
36:48Thomas Taylor is all like, I'm taking it.
36:49If you guys can't fix it, I'm fixing it.
36:52All of this will just benefit Pacquiao.
36:54I mean, Barrios as well.
36:55But this is what Pacquiao needs.
36:57He's using all the tricks of the book right now, Manny.
37:00You have to.
37:00And let's see how Thomas Taylor reacts to that cheekiness in the corner of Manny Pacquiao.
37:14Because he doesn't play any games.
37:17Nice flurry there from Mario Barrios.
37:20The instructions from Bob Santos as I come out and dominate these last three rounds.
37:25These are the championship rounds.
37:26And our official scorer, Larry Hazard, has Manny Pacquiao up 87-84.
37:33So, Barrios needs all the last three rounds just to get a draw.
37:38What's your scorecard look like, Brian?
37:39Five rounds to four in favor of Manny Pacquiao.
37:43And you've got to wonder how many close rounds just by that explosion of the crowd are going to lead Manny's way.
37:50We've talked about the sentimental favor.
37:54These judges are human.
37:55They know what they're experiencing.
37:58They know what they're living.
37:59And that's the difficulty of separating yourself.
38:03And that's why Barrios has to do exactly what he did there.
38:06Throw flurries, connect, and push Pacquiao back.
38:10The opportunities there.
38:12We talked about every time that Pacquiao throws a combination, he leaves himself open.
38:18And Barrios does not execute it.
38:19Does not let the right hand go.
38:20There it is, the jab.
38:21He's got to get it going again.
38:22Get the rhythm.
38:23Get the momentum.
38:24Look, it's one thing if you're 46 and you're only relying on power to stay relevant.
38:30Pacquiao is outthinking and outperforming Barrios up to this point.
38:35To the point that Pacquiao has outlanded Barrios in three of the last four rounds.
38:39He's 16 years older than Mario Barrios.
38:42And you know what?
38:43He turned pro four months before Barrios was born.
38:46Won his first world title with Barrios was three.
38:49Beat Barret in San Antonio, Barrios' hometown, when he was eight years old.
38:54But you know what?
38:55We talked about it.
38:56If anybody can defy Father Time, if anybody can say,
39:00I could care less what your doubts are, I believe in myself, and God is in my corner.
39:06It's Manny Pacquiao.
39:08Wow.
39:09Manny Pacquiao isn't proving as much that age is just a number.
39:12I think he's proving that he is a true one-of-one with this performance so far.
39:17He is definitely one-of-one with using all the tricks, all the experience.
39:23We're blocking those shots and counter-punching effectively.
39:26Speaking of Manny Pacquiao, beautiful body shot.
39:30And he's still on his toes.
39:32Tenth round, and Manny Pacquiao is so elusive still with this footwork.
39:37Shades of Sugar Ray Leonard over marvelous Marvin Hagler.
39:40There's still a lot of boxing to go here.
39:42We've got six minutes and 20 seconds left for history to be made.
39:46And it's still up in the balance.
39:48There's a lot of rounds that could have gone either way here.
39:51So neither can feel like I've got this fight in the bank.
39:55The championship rounds will be crucial here at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
40:01And what a privilege it is to call Manny Pacquiao's return.
40:12Hey.
40:13Too loud to go.
40:15Be alert.
40:15Don't show him no fucking respect.
40:18No fucking respect.
40:19Don't touch his fucking gloves.
40:22Be alert.
40:22And don't show him no fucking respect.
40:24But be alert.
40:25Okay?
40:26He's trying to run you into something.
40:28Unit champion.
40:29We need the jab and banging the shit out of the body.
40:33He don't like it.
40:33That's why he keeps trying to touch gloves.
40:35Don't fucking respect him.
40:36But be alert.
40:37Okay?
40:38He's trying to rest.
40:39You got to work, all right?
40:40Don't let him rest.
40:42He's trying to wrestle between his combinations.
40:44I don't care if he misses.
40:45Let's go.
40:46Stay with him.
40:46All right?
40:47These last two rounds are going to change your life, son.
40:49Let's go, baby.
40:51Let's go.
40:51All you got to do is stay with him, all right?
40:53If Staple Center was the house that Kobe built,
41:00the United Center was the house that Jordan built,
41:04this MGM Grand Garden Arena is the house that Manny Pacquiao built.
41:0816th fight in this building.
41:12And this man knows that the judges have their work cut out yet.
41:18Yeah, definitely do.
41:20And this is Barrios.
41:21Close rounds.
41:21Excuse me.
41:21This is Barrios' moment to listen to his corner
41:24and his trainer, Bob Santos,
41:25and let respect go off the window and let your hands go.
41:30Really important three rounds for both sides.
41:33Really close fight.
41:35Really close rounds.
41:36Manny Pacquiao doing exactly what he used to do,
41:41but then he gets Barrios.
41:42That's the best combination we've seen from Mario Barrios
41:45as Pacquiao touches his gloves.
41:47And that is there all the time.
41:52Every time that Manny Pacquiao takes that first step in,
41:55he's got his guard open.
41:57Barrios has got to take the advantage and let those hands go.
42:00Like that.
42:00You split the guard with the jab.
42:02And now what do you do behind it?
42:04A left hook, a triple left hook from Mario Barrios.
42:07This is exactly what you need to do
42:09when you're the younger, taller, bigger fighter.
42:18Simple as that.
42:19Manny Pacquiao took a step back and said something,
42:21and he stopped the momentum of Barrios.
42:23That was a short right hook from Manny Pacquiao.
42:27Now he's starting to dart in.
42:28That's good for him,
42:30but it also creates openings for Mario Barrios.
42:32Like that one with a left hook and a right downstairs.
42:35That was a good body shot.
42:36Give and take action here in round 11.
42:42There's that knee right from Mario Barrios,
42:44switching things up,
42:45and now he's got Pacquiao on the back foot.
42:47No matter how this fight ends,
42:55this is the 11th round.
42:56And to be seen,
42:57Manny Pacquiao, the 46-year-old legend,
43:01champion, people's champion,
43:02fighting the way he is.
43:03Oh my God, my ultimate respect.
43:07Look, you came back after a four-year layoff,
43:11and what did that feel compared to what you're seeing
43:13in the ring tonight?
43:14Nothing compared to what I did
43:16when I came back for four years.
43:18After four years, I was missing a lot of timing,
43:21and I've not seen any of that with Manny Pacquiao.
43:24Another right hand from Manny Pacquiao.
43:26Two-punch combination following up.
43:28This is where he has the position
43:30to potentially steal a round.
43:31I've loved the work of Barrios up to this point.
43:36You see, Barrios, once he has something going for him,
43:38he's landing shots, all of a sudden he stops.
43:40There's a nice lead left on the jab from Mario Barrios,
43:44and that's what he did.
43:45He quieted the crowd just as they were getting going.
43:49That's the one thing he's done the last three rounds,
43:51is quiet the crowd just as they're crescendoing.
43:56There's a nice straight left from Manny Pacquiao.
43:59Someone's got to steal the round.
44:00Nice jab from Mario Barrios, held his ground in round number 11.
44:10This is the first time he's landed over 10 power punches in a round,
44:15and it took him a little number of rounds to do it.
44:17Now Pacquiao on his feet.
44:18Last round, we're going to touch his hips at the belt.
44:28Good night.
44:33Don't force him, but jab and bite.
44:38Yep.
44:39And dig hard.
44:40Don't attack, camera jab.
44:42And dig hard.
44:43Make sure your hands are coming back up, all right?
44:45Off the chest, dig to that bar.
44:47Hey, close the show, but be super alert.
44:50No fucking respect.
44:52No fucking respect, but be alert.
44:54Are we about to witness history?
45:03Here we go.
45:0512 and 5 round.
45:09This is it.
45:10Will Manny Pacquiao win a world title at age 46?
45:15The first Hall of Famer to come back and do it,
45:19or will Mario Barrios send everybody home sad
45:23that the 46-year-old was in control until the championship rounds.
45:31See, if you're Mario Barrios, why are you starting the round like this?
45:34You've got to push Manny Pacquiao back.
45:37This is the last round.
45:38You're the younger fighter.
45:39You've got more in you, so I believe or think,
45:42but he's not showing any signs of that.
45:45He's already proved his point.
45:47Did Pacquiao win or lose?
45:48The point that he's not yet done with boxing,
45:51and he also added on,
45:52I'm different than every other fighter.
45:55Boy, is he.
45:5674-69 power punch land advantage,
46:00and there's 75 for Manny Pacquiao.
46:03That's straight left.
46:05It's going to be about experience.
46:07It's going to be about hunger.
46:08It's going to be about desire.
46:10It's going to be about feeding off the crowd.
46:12It's going to be about who wants to win tonight.
46:15And so far, I'm seeing Manny Pacquiao.
46:18Manny Pacquiao's the one that's dictating right now.
46:21Oh, even though Barrios came back with that.
46:24And that was good angles for Mario Barrios.
46:26And once again, the lead right.
46:27This is what Barrios needs to do.
46:30Pacquiao tries his best to answer.
46:36Really, both of them have done a great job.
46:38Whenever the other fighter lands a big combination,
46:40they come right back.
46:50I wanted to say Pacquiao looks tired.
46:52He looks weary.
46:53Every time I think that,
46:55he surges back for the three-punch combination.
46:57But this rhythm of fight benefits Pacquiao right now.
47:03I think why is Barrios allowed in that rhythm of fight?
47:06Yeah, no clue.
47:07I mean, the coach has told him already,
47:10Bob Santos, you got to push.
47:12This is your last round.
47:14He's going to change your life last round,
47:16but we're not seeing that from Barrios.
47:20Nice defense then from Manny Pacquiao.
47:23Absolutely.
47:23The better question soon might be
47:25how will this win change Pacquiao's legacy
47:27if it happens here?
47:28As we're pretty even in this final round.
47:32Good blurring out for Mario Barrios.
47:34What answer will Manny Pacquiao have?
47:37That's right.
47:38An uppercut.
47:41Here we go.
47:42Here's the question for Mario's.
47:44Guys, let's just let the people take us home here.
47:47No one has defied the odds more than Manny Pacquiao.
48:13From fighting as a young man for a few Filipino pesos
48:16to put food on the table for his family
48:19when they didn't even have rice to eat.
48:22To headlining for the 15th time
48:24inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
48:27Looking to make history at 46 years old
48:29because his wife Jiki said,
48:31I think you can beat this man.
48:34This is not a movie script.
48:36This is real life.
48:37But only a fighter like Manny Pacquiao
48:39can bring this to life.
48:40Only going to come down, though,
48:44to the opinion of those three judges
48:46that score at ringside.
48:52As we look back at the action
48:54we saw throughout this fight,
48:57when Mario's committed to that jab,
48:59Abner, it was his consistent weapon
49:01along with that right cross.
49:03But he had big bouts of inactivity
49:05as that fight went on.
49:06Yeah, that jab was dictating everything.
49:08The momentum, the rhythm of Manny Pacquiao
49:10stopping him on his tracks
49:12and opening up the guard
49:14for that right hand straight punches
49:16from Mario Barrios.
49:17But he stopped doing that.
49:19And Manny Pacquiao let his hands go
49:21and he was winning rounds,
49:23making rounds really close.
49:24So again, a really close fight.
49:26And we'll find out if all the time
49:28is still undefeated tonight.
49:31We will see what the numbers look like
49:33with the judges
49:35because that's what really matters.
49:36But these are the CompuBox numbers.
49:38And you see that overall,
49:41it was Mario Barrios
49:42outlanding Manny Pacquiao
49:43by 17 or 19 punches.
49:47The power punches,
49:48that's what favored Manny Pacquiao
49:49by six.
49:50and the 25-punch jab advantage
49:53from Mario Barrios.
49:55But it doesn't tell the story
49:57of what we saw in the ring tonight.
49:58It's really going to come down
49:59to that classic argument a lot.
50:00The jabs of Barrios
50:02against the cleaner power punches
50:04of Manny Pacquiao.
50:05For what it's worth,
50:06I thought Barrios overtook Pacquiao
50:08in the scorecards
50:08in that final round.
50:10Seven rounds to five overall.
50:12But I'm just one opinion
50:12that doesn't matter.
50:13These rounds were close.
50:15This one really feels like
50:16it could go either way.
50:18Manny Pacquiao,
50:19the chance to make history
50:20once again.
50:23And you see the embrace
50:24from Mario Barrios.
50:25And I think Mario Barrios,
50:26if he doesn't get the nod tonight,
50:28will look back
50:29at those middle rounds
50:30when he allowed
50:31Manny Pacquiao
50:32to go downhill
50:33and take control.
50:35And Bob Santos kept telling him,
50:37these are rounds
50:37that are going to change
50:38your life, son.
50:39Come on, push it.
50:41Show me something.
50:42Let your hands go.
50:43But it was the moment
50:44that we will give
50:45Manny Pacquiao
50:46the space,
50:47the time
50:48to let his hands go
50:49that he would let
50:50Manny Pacquiao
50:51do the rounds.
50:51Finally, your scorecard
50:53before we go
50:53to Jimmy Lennon Jr., Brian.
50:55Seven rounds to five,
50:56115, 113.
50:57In favor of Barrios,
50:58could you see 7-5
50:59in either direction?
51:00I think so.
51:01I have the same scorecard
51:02as does
51:03our unofficial scorer,
51:06Larry Hazard.
51:06But the ones that count
51:07are in the hands
51:08of the always classy
51:10Jimmy Lennon Jr.
51:11Ladies and gentlemen,
51:16after 12 rounds of action,
51:18we go to the scorecards.
51:21Judge at the ringside,
51:22Max DeLuca,
51:23scores the bout
51:24115 to 113
51:26in favor of Mario Barrios.
51:32Judges at ringside,
51:33Steve Weisfeld
51:35and Tim Cheatham
51:36both score the bout.
51:38114 to 114.
51:41The decision is
51:42a majority draw.
51:45And of course,
51:50in that case,
51:51the champion
51:52retains his title.
51:54Mario Barrios won
51:59the 12th round
51:59on all three scorecards
52:01to retain his belt.
52:03But you hear
52:03the crowd's reaction
52:05to this fight.
52:07And look,
52:08you said 115, 113.
52:10He swept all the last
52:12three rounds.
52:13When Bob Santos told him,
52:14and we did the math here,
52:16and I said,
52:17he needs
52:18the last three rounds.
