00:00okay gentlemen everything on the orange up is gonna be good bottom of the white letters up
00:12is good you got my instructions in the back gentlemen protect yourselves at all times
00:15the rest of my commands touch them up back to the front gentlemen
00:19sometimes words aren't necessary the crowd will tell you what this moment is all about
00:28as they await the first bell for manny pacquiao's return against mario barrios
00:34barrios told me this is the biggest fight of my career this is the grandest stage and early on
00:46we will know if we get vintage manny pacquiao or old manny pacquiao and the difference is huge
00:54well either way this crowd has received pacman's return in a big way as you'd expect
01:00you wonder what effect that will have on the judges because anytime pacquiao comes close to landing
01:05you'll hear from the strong crowd in this arena and you may hurt me as well when he landed that
01:10let it on the arms of mario's but yeah because yes these first two three rounds we're going to see
01:19if the timing is still there for pacquiao that was the one thing that was missing when i went to
01:27his public workout it was the timing that seemed to be off i spoke to freddie roach about it he says
01:33look the legs are still there and tonight it's about a great left hand for manny against a great right
01:40hand from barrios there's that left from manny pacquiao yeah so far it's been left from manny
01:47pacquiao no punches thrown yet from barrios barrios still feeling out manny but you have to believe
01:53this will be as quick and resource falls manny will be all right and so far he looks good
01:58jabbing to the body consistently yeah you know that barrios does not want to make a mistake against
02:04experience manny pacquiao has been in there against the greats of the greats so being cautious in
02:11this first round guys mario barrios made no bones about it he says the longer the fight goes on
02:19the more it favors me and we know that pacquiao needs to have this kind of quick start
02:24pacquiao split the guard during that sequence that left hand speed is still there
02:29but there's a right hand and mario barrios trying to establish some respect from the pacman
02:34the first right hand that mario barrios threw and it landed plus on pacquiao and it seemed like
02:40it didn't hurt him but definitely got him off balance
02:42mario's trying to establish the jab
02:48and it almost seems like he wants pacquiao to get some sense of confidence for him to come in
02:56and do something like that open up and they land a quick sharp uppercut
03:01there's that left for manny pacquiao he's got to stay active with it though
03:06and man he's got to be able to move his feet consistently something he couldn't do in the
03:13ugas fight the last time we saw him back in 2021
03:17it's a nice jab for manny pacquiao despite the four inch disparity
03:21but it's the quickness that makes manny pacquiao dangerous
03:24and look against ugas he told members of his team i could see the shots i couldn't get there
03:31tonight he's getting there
03:32there he is
03:34there's not much punches thrown in this room but the punches that he did throw were effective
03:40sponsored by draft king sportsbook the crown is yours
03:57brought to you by universal pictures nobody too
04:03only in theaters august 15th
04:06so that's what you want to get
04:13so that's what you want to get
04:15so you want to make someone come in
04:17okay
04:17if you do it
04:22so that's what you want to get
04:24and you want to make someone come in
04:29okay
04:30if you're right handed by you left to the head
04:33Let's go, let's go, let's go.
04:35Asking Manny Pacquiao to throw combinations to the body.
04:40But he's got to be very aware of that powerful right hand from Mario Barrios.
04:4418 knockouts in 29 victories.
04:46You see Barrios now coming out to meet Manny Pacquiao in the center of the ring.
04:50Wants to establish the fact that he's the champion.
04:53Will this be the round after a feeling out round?
04:55He starts off with a good jab.
04:58He has to take the lead, meaning Barrios with the output
05:01to control the terms of this fight.
05:04And really, as he said all week,
05:06make Manny look and feel like the older fighter.
05:09Yeah. Again, it felt like the first round was definitely a study round for Barrios.
05:14He saw what he needed to see. He landed the right hand.
05:17Pacquiao comes in forward, opens up.
05:19So now it's Barrios trying to get the jab going.
05:22But again, Pacquiao, you see the old Pacquiao coming in with the play,
05:26stepping back and getting back on that jab.
05:29A quick one-two from Pacquiao. What was not quick was his exit.
05:32You see the feet get tackled there.
05:34As Thomas Taylor, the third man in the ring,
05:36immediately sees that it was the feet getting tackled.
05:40It'll happen after when a southpaw and an orthodox fighter step in the ring together.
05:44It happens all the time, but even a knockout,
05:46something when you go down, even if it was no punch,
05:48you kind of get a little bit distracted.
05:51Speed of Barrios, but no, he's getting back on that jab.
05:54Pacquiao has the chance to achieve many different historic feats tonight.
05:59One of them is becoming the first boxer in history to hold a world title in four different decades.
06:05Incredible to think about.
06:07And the fact that he would be the first ever inducted International Boxing Hall of Famer
06:13to not only come back but to also be crowned a world champion.
06:18But to do that, there's a lot that yet needs to be done.
06:23That was a nice jab and followed by a body shot early as well from Barrios.
06:27He definitely needs to work the body against the older 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao.
06:32Break him down.
06:35That's it. That was a very ill-intentioned counter right
06:40that Barrios wanted to punish Pacquiao.
06:42That's a nice knock and then a jab counter from Barrios.
06:46So there's an answer from Barrios now in the second round.
06:50There's an answer from Barrios, the right hand,
06:53but Pacquiao's landing some shots too, and let's not forget, guys,
06:56Manny Pacquiao still possesses that power, the old man power people talked about
07:00in the sporting sessions that he was hurting people.
07:04And once again, he's in against a bigger fighter.
07:07Barrios' team said they wanted him to come in at around 168 pounds on fight night.
07:13Pacquiao nowhere near there.
07:16Remember, Barrios hasn't been on the fight at this level exactly,
07:19but he's been on the pay-per-view level twice
07:21in losses to Gervonta Davis and Keith Thurman,
07:24and he talked so much this week about what he learned from those
07:27in terms of maturity, education, patience.
07:31Pacquiao was patient and countered with a short right,
07:34which is not his MO.
07:35He's a big left-hand guy, but, you know, early on he was seen as a one-handed puncher.
07:40Good round from Mario Juarez here.
07:42Listen in to Bob Santos.
07:43Hey, real quick.
07:45All you have to do is use your jab.
07:55All you have to do is use your jab and don't force it to the body.
08:00But every opportunity, we got to start touching the body, okay?
08:03Go ahead.
08:04That's what I'm gonna say.
08:05Keep on track.
08:06Every step you get foot, you start touching the body, all right?
08:09Look for that right hand when you bend through that body.
08:12Right?
08:13Yeah.
08:14You're doing perfect.
08:15Perfect start to the fight.
08:17And here is the one-two that Matty Pacquiao landed on Mario Varios.
08:22Well, Mario Varios had a response for that,
08:24and that was a straight jab to the face of Matty Pacquiao.
08:31You got the cup written.
08:33Right hand to the body.
08:37Touch him to the body.
08:39Touch him to the body.
08:41What we're seeing early on is that first step offensively is there.
08:46What's not really there is the exit strategy for Matty Pacquiao.
08:52Ooh, again with that right hand.
08:53Yep.
08:57Now it's Barios starting off with a jab,
08:59using his height advantage and reach advantage.
09:02Six and a half inches taller,
09:04four inches longer on that reach.
09:08Bob Santos is such a key to the confidence and execution of Mario Varios.
09:12And remember, that was Barios' original trainer when he turned pro in 2013.
09:16They went 16-0 together, they parted ways,
09:19and since they've returned in 2023,
09:22you've seen a more confident Barios since 3-0-1 overall,
09:25including winning a war title.
09:27Oh, really?
09:28He has gone with Bob Santos these last couple of fights,
09:31and again, he's fighting a legend tonight.
09:33Does not want to make any mistakes, and Bob Santos knows.
09:36He's being really alert, really cautious, speaking of Barios.
09:40Man, he looked like he was motioning to Barios,
09:43telling him to raise the punches after a couple were on that belt line.
09:46Barios says, hey, you're not the referee.
09:49That guy's got to tell me what to do.
09:51Well, that's a key part of it.
09:52We're going to wait for this turning point where Barios stops respecting Pacquiao.
09:55That could either be the point that begins his undoing if he gets caught,
09:58or that downhill ride as the younger man with the younger legs.
10:02And when you come to that word respect,
10:05these both warriors have been touching up gloves at the beginning of each round
10:09as a sign of respect, but Barios said, I have to lose that respect.
10:13And his trainer, Bob Santos said, look, at the end of the day,
10:17I need my guy to have a killer instinct,
10:19because you ask guys like Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito, Eric Morales,
10:25Marco Antonio Barrera, what happens when you don't match this guy's killer instinct?
10:30It doesn't end well.
10:31It does not.
10:32And there's a response from Barios.
10:34Good body shots.
10:35Good body shots.
10:36And here you see Thomas Taylor saying, you may be Manny Pacquiao,
10:39but I established the belt line early on before the fight started.
10:43He's very particular about that.
10:46And you love that out of a referee of Thomas Taylor's pedigree.
10:50Yeah, and for me, guys, I don't think it's much so the respect that Barrios is showing for Pacquiao right now.
10:56I think it's just like he's trying to figure him out.
10:58He's got the jab going, okay?
11:00He's trying to land the body shot.
11:01He's landed a couple of them.
11:02But at the same time, he does not want to make mistakes.
11:05There's a nice sleeping left there for Manny Pacquiao.
11:08There's that jab, though.
11:09He can't get away from the jab of Mario Barrios.
11:11He's just too slow on the defensive end tonight.
11:14He knows that sooner or later, Pacquiao's gonna fade.
11:19So he believes and hopes.
11:21Barrios has a four-inch reach advantage, but he's six-and-a-half-inch height advantage.
11:26That's the tallest opponent at six-foot even that Manny has yet to face.
11:31That's a right uppercut.
11:33Now a left uppercut for Mario Barrios.
11:35Getting more confident.
11:37And that means that Manny Pacquiao will start to open up and get caught by shots like that right.
11:42Get that right.
11:45The crowd's loving it.
11:47At the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
11:49La Casa de Manny Pacquiao.
11:57Do not allow him, the referee, to fucking fight, okay?
12:01So whatever he does, let the ref do the wrestling, okay?
12:04So if he complains with something, he ain't the referee.
12:07Don't go at him in the direct line.
12:09When we start complaining about that, those are clean bulls.
12:11You gotta come to him.
12:12You don't like the body shots, okay?
12:14He's not the referee.
12:15Let the ref do his job.
12:16You do yours.
12:17Go ahead.
12:22Early in the round, the right hand by Barrios.
12:25Straight right hand.
12:28Twice.
12:29You notice that the first one didn't land flush, and he went for the second one.
12:33And here it is again.
12:34Getting desperate.
12:35Manny Pacquiao lunging in.
12:37Guard down.
12:38And Barrios taking advantage of that and landing that right hand.
12:42Manny Pacquiao still draws a crowd.
12:45At age 46, people understand that if anybody can defy father time, if anyone can make history once again, it's the man in the black trunks with the orange trim.
12:58The man you know by just one name.
13:00That's how you know Anati has made it.
13:02If you're Pelé.
13:03If you're Maradona.
13:04If you're Cristiano.
13:05Well, if you hear the name Manny or Pacquiao, you're not thinking Manny Machado.
13:10This is a people's champ right here.
13:13Everyone loves Manny.
13:15He's a great person.
13:16Oh, hold on here.
13:17One of those stiff jabs there from Barrios.
13:19It looked like it snapped the head of Pacquiao back during that sequence.
13:22Yeah, you kind of shook him up a little bit.
13:29But then he didn't follow up.
13:31I mean, we're seeing in pockets the limitations, the age of Manny Pacquiao.
13:35As long as his balance and his stamina can hold form, he's still a threat in this fight.
13:40But when one of those goes, it could really turn quickly.
13:43And that jab did catch Manny a little bit off balance.
13:46And that's why it seemed to be more damaging than it was.
13:50Already though, he's moving a lot more than he did against Ugas some four years ago.
13:56In which he said he was getting leg massages three times a day.
13:59He cramped up in that fight since then.
14:01They've switched course.
14:02Massages once a week.
14:03And he says he feels a lot younger because of that.
14:06Yeah, no cramps here in this fight so far for Manny Pacquiao.
14:10Manny Pacquiao moving a lot more.
14:12Feet movement, the quickness.
14:14But again, Barrios not yet throwing a lot of punches like Ugas did against Manny Pacquiao.
14:20And that gave Manny problems.
14:22And there it is.
14:23Every time that Barrios throws punches, he lands.
14:26He hurts Pacquiao.
14:28That was a nice counter from Mario Barrios that Manny Pacquiao tried to get a couple of other shots in.
14:33And there's a leaping uppercut there from Mario Barrios.
14:37Now establishing the jab against the veteran.
14:41Look, if he can get Manny Pacquiao walking backwards, that's the fight.
14:46Yeah, you got to start getting the attention of Manny by doing that.
14:50The jab.
14:51Push him back.
14:52The jab is the key.
14:53That's the key to wear Manny down.
14:54Really pull at that gas tank.
14:56Not like the bigger fighter you are.
14:58Well, a nice right uppercut also from Mario Barrios.
15:01Maybe not landing clean, but he's getting there and he's making Manny Pacquiao think before he commits.
15:07Even though Barrios has had the upper hand for most of this round, you can still see him leery of the speed of that left hand comment from Pacquiao.
15:16I want to see that straight left to the body from Manny Pacquiao.
15:31Let's not forget.
15:32Oh, beautiful.
15:33Left hand to the face for Manny.
15:35That right cross from Barrios landed flush, however.
15:40It's the back and forth between these two fighters.
15:43You can feel the tension and also the respect.
15:46If you want to just fall down the left let's see him headwind in Juke General.
15:49I have a chance to go on.
15:50Once again.
15:51Yes.
15:52Is they move their hand
16:07McCain-Pain flight.
16:08What if you want to go on?
16:10Stop!
16:10Forget it.
16:12Come on, jab straight jab, jab straight.
16:14You want to, want to, want to.
16:16Get out, huh?
16:17Get out of here.
16:18And the last round, the shots, the straight punches,
16:21the right hand to the body are landing easy right now.
16:25And Manny Pacquiao, and I love that.
16:26He gets back to that jab.
16:28Straight punches, straight right hand, and back to his jab.
16:33Deep breath.
16:34Perfect, perfect, perfect.
16:37Joe Coy, the famous comedian who's going to be teaming up
16:40with Gabriel Iglesias Fluffy to sell out SoFi Stadium in March of 2026.
16:46Tonight, he says, you can't be a Filipino and not be a fan of Manny Pacquiao.
16:52Hey, look, if we're honest, we're all fans of Manny Pacquiao.
16:55It's a one-of-one athlete, and the way people beloved and remember him
16:59is also special.
17:00These fans came not to support.
17:03They believe that he can win, ultimately.
17:05And you certainly saw that the way the betting line changes.
17:07We got closer.
17:08Yeah, no, no, you're right.
17:09And so far, Pacquiao's showing some grits and showing some good shots.
17:13But again, the hard shots are landed by Barrios.
17:17There's a quick darting Manny Pacquiao.
17:19As you see, our unofficial scorer, David Hazard,
17:23has the fight a draw now after four rounds,
17:26giving the champion the last two.
17:28Edner, do you get the feeling Barrios is showing too much respect,
17:39or is there enough of a threat coming back that this is how you have to break Pacquiao down?
17:43I think that there's enough of a threat from Manny Pacquiao.
17:47Aggression, the fast punches that has Barrios thinking.
17:52He's not, again, he does not want to make a mistake.
17:55So little by little, this is the fifth round.
17:57There's going to come a point, if we know by Santos,
17:59where he's going to tell him and he's going to urge him,
18:01okay, it's time to step it up.
18:03Act like the bigger guy and the younger guy.
18:05Push him back.
18:06That's a nice left there for Manny Pacquiao.
18:08Partially parried by Mario Barrios,
18:11but you can see why he is leery of throwing that right hand
18:15until he has an opportunity.
18:18And he did say, I'm going to take him to deep waters.
18:21I want to see how much he has left,
18:23how those legs are cramping or not cramping,
18:26past six, eight, ten rounds.
18:28I know I'm young, I know I'm 30 years old,
18:31I'm in my prime, he is not.
18:35Barrios is starting to time that counter right hand perfectly
18:38after Pacquiao finishes his combination attempts.
18:41Yeah, Pacquiao can get that jig off his face from Barrios.
18:45How about that overhand right counter?
18:47There's that stick once again.
18:50I mean, to be honest, Barrios could just
18:53jab his way to victory tonight if he wants to.
18:57I don't think that's the way it's going to play out,
18:59but he could.
19:00I believe that's what Bob Santos holds.
19:02He could just jab, son.
19:04Keep jabbing.
19:05And every jab, there it is.
19:07And Lance every time he throws it.
19:09Come on, come on, come on, come on.
19:11Come on, come on.
19:12Come on, come on.
19:17Back there.
19:19When Pacquiao lunges, he leaves himself square.
19:21That's a dangerous place to be.
19:24I mean, I just got one word, Marquez.
19:28That's exactly what happened.
19:30Marquez timed him well.
19:31He pointed in with his hands out.
19:33Got him with the straight overhand.
19:35Overhand left, I'm sorry, right.
19:37And knocked him out.
19:38It's the last time Pacquiao's been knocked down
19:40in his career.
19:41That was 2012.
19:42Ooh!
19:42Good kick pass for Marquez Pacquiao
19:45to close out the fifth round of this fight.
19:47And you see the crowd is loving the action.
19:51You're feeling tough, okay?
19:56Take a deep breath.
19:57Look, don't come in a direct line,
20:00but you've got to need your jab and push him back.
20:03We've got to hold it on and push him back.
20:04He's getting gassed.
20:05When you put that pressure on him,
20:07mentally he's going to gassed.
20:08But don't come in a direct line.
20:10Angle, angle, angle, and use the jab.
20:12Touch the body every single time underneath, okay?
20:15But we've got to hold down and push him back.
20:17Don't let him go forward, but knock him out.
20:19Go ahead, Rich.
20:19Let's start pushing him back.
20:21Make him feel old.
20:22Start jumping on your jab.
20:23When he goes out left hand,
20:26catch him, get his body, right?
20:27Let's go.
20:28Let's start making him feel old, all right?
20:29Let's go around where we start pressing him, all right?
20:32Small step control.
20:34Behind the jab.
20:35Behind the jab.
20:36Smart, all right?
20:37He's gassed.
20:38He's gassed.
20:39Number one, baby!
20:40Under us!
20:42Pacquiao of old used to throw five, six punch combinations
20:45like it was nothing.
20:48Tonight, that's just not part of the repertoire.
20:50No.
20:51And even when he's throwing three punch combinations,
20:53he's finishing with his hands down a little bit off balance,
20:56which is something we're not used to seeing in a Pacquiao fight.
20:59Yeah, no, of course not.
21:00But, you know, being smart, Pacquiao,
21:02he doesn't want to gas out, leave everything in one round.
21:05So, whenever he sees an opportunity, he lets those hands go.
21:09Four, three, four punches, but not the six, seven combinations.
21:12And then the side steps that we were used to seeing from Manny Pacquiao.
21:15That's a big part of it, the footwork to exit.
21:18That's why he looks so, let's just say it, old against Ugas.
21:21And that was a much younger version of Pacquiao.
21:24It was a body shot there with a left from Manny Pacquiao to the solarplexes on Mario Barrios.
21:30He's got to keep working that body shot, Manny Pacquiao.
21:33Let's not forget the last time Barrios fought a softball,
21:36it was against Tank Davis, and Tank Davis knocked him down with that body shot.
21:43Oh, nice jab from Barrios.
21:45That was stiff and right in the face of Manny Pacquiao.
21:48And that's what Bob Santos wants from him.
21:50We heard him say that, and don't forget,
21:52Santos is an accomplished trainer.
21:53He's been in many Manny Pacquiao camps in the past.
21:56As an assistant, helping out, he knows Pacquiao,
22:00and that played a big role in their preparation.
22:01Manny Pacquiao, Manny Pacquiao!
22:07Just listen to that crowd.
22:10And they're filming this.
22:12Counter shots there for Barrios, flush to the chin.
22:21And for Pacquiao right now, it's not how many punches are the speed,
22:25it's the right punches that he needs to throw.
22:27Body shots, straight left.
22:29Jack, wait for the right moment.
22:33But don't go in flurries like you used to,
22:35because, again, you're leaving yourself exposed.
22:38Barrios, a 16-punch connect advantage through the first six rounds,
22:41and here's Pacquiao darting in.
22:45Barrios not making him pay.
22:47Yeah, through his right there, too.
22:49And he uses his shoulder there to get Manny Pacquiao off of him.
22:52And you wonder, how many of these surges is Pacquiao going to have each round
22:57as this fight goes on?
23:00That's right, enough uppercut.
23:02And you can see how Pacquiao talks to Barrios,
23:05and that's why it was so important when Bob Santos says,
23:09do not allow him to referee this fight.
23:11He always, you know what, Morales told me,
23:16he would say, break, break, break.
23:18Oh, Manny Pacquiao would say that?
23:19Yeah.
23:23And the muscle memory right now, you were just, okay, I'll break.
23:27Yeah.
23:28Nice stiff jab there from Mario Barrios.
23:30That's a jab.
23:32A guarding shot for Manny Pacquiao.
23:34Lead left hand.
23:35Not much power on him, but a guy in the car,
23:37Barrios not ready for him.
23:40This was some run of power for Pacquiao,
23:41but it's got so many close.
23:43For Barrios.
23:44Yeah.
23:44Yeah.
23:44Yeah.
23:45Yeah.
23:45Yeah.
23:45Yeah.
23:45Yeah.
23:45Yeah.
23:46Yeah.
23:46Yeah.
23:47Yeah.
23:47Yeah.
23:48Yeah.
23:48Yeah.
23:49Yeah.
23:49Yeah.
23:50Yeah.
23:50Yeah.
23:51Yeah.
23:52Yeah.
23:53Yeah.
23:54Yeah.
23:55Yeah.
23:56Yeah.
23:57Yeah.
23:58Yeah.
23:59Yeah.
24:00Yeah.
24:00Yeah.
24:01Yeah.
24:02Yeah.
24:03Yeah.
24:04Yeah.
24:05Yeah.
24:06Yeah.
24:06Yeah.
24:07Yeah.
24:08Yeah.
24:08Yeah.
24:09Yeah.
24:09Yeah.
24:10Yeah.
24:10Yeah.
24:11Yeah.
24:11Yeah.
24:12Yeah.
24:12Yeah.
24:13Yeah.
24:13Yeah.
24:14Yeah.
24:14Yeah.
24:15Yeah.
24:15Yeah.
24:16Yeah.
24:16Yeah.
24:17Yeah.
24:17Yeah.
24:18Yeah.
24:18Yeah.
24:19Yeah.
24:19Yeah.
24:20Yeah.
24:20Yeah.
24:21Yeah.
24:21Yeah.
24:22Yeah.
24:22Yeah.
24:23Yeah.
24:23Yeah.
24:24Yeah.
24:24Yeah.
24:25Yeah.
24:25Yeah.
24:26Yeah.
24:26Yeah.
24:27Yeah.
24:28Yeah.
24:28Yeah.
24:29Yeah.
24:29It's a party inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
24:44Manny Pacquiao's record 16th main event in this building.
24:49And he's had some success and he's had forgettable nights as well.
24:54Joe Goosen at the midway point of this fight.
24:58What do you perceive?
25:01Let me give you the score first.
25:03I think Manny won the first two rounds.
25:05I thought Barrios won the next three.
25:08And I think the last one, maybe Pacquiao eked it out with that combination at the end of the round.
25:12Okay, it's all beauties in the eye and behold.
25:15But that being said, look, Manny's hanging tough for a 46-year-old right now.
25:21He's in this fight. He hasn't really gotten hurt.
25:23His balance isn't beautiful anymore.
25:25But he's still, you know, his legs are still rivalry right there.
25:29So that's a good combination he threw there.
25:32It's going to impress the judges.
25:34It just impressed me.
25:35There's two of them.
25:36Now Barrios has got to get those back.
25:39Or else Manny's on top by two combinations.
25:42So, you know, it's an ebb and flow right now.
25:45But look, Manny at 46 years old, it's pretty unbelievable right now.
25:50And Barrios, of course, you know, he's going to probably get better in the second half of this fight.
25:55But we'll see.
25:56That's the expectation.
25:57Thank you very much, Joe.
25:58You're welcome.
25:59But Barrios will have to get to his average of 20 power punches thrown per round.
26:04Because through six rounds, he hasn't topped 19 power punches thrown in a single round.
26:10There were some good surges there from Pacquiao, including that lead right hook.
26:14But Freddie Roach told him in the corner, we need five, six punch combinations.
26:17He said, this fight could be over.
26:19You've got to be careful balancing that gas tank if you're Pacquiao on the flip side.
26:23And you saw that counter left after how effective it was for him.
26:27That was really effective.
26:28You see what Pacquiao's doing.
26:29He's moving to his right now.
26:33Explain why that's so important.
26:34So, he's moving to his right.
26:35He's taking that right away from Barrios.
26:37Every time he steps to the right, there's no right that Barrios can land.
26:42Because his whole body is in a different angle.
26:44Really smart for Manny Pacquiao.
26:46Double jabbing, turning to the right.
26:48But he can't land the jab, though, from there.
26:50Yeah, but the left is there for Manny.
26:52This really is, as Joe said, remarkable that we're seeing Pacquiao at this age, after this layoff.
27:01Almost fighting on even terms here with Barrios.
27:05Oh, what a nice right from Barrios.
27:06But the answer for Manny Pacquiao.
27:09If they're in the center of the ring, Manny Pacquiao on the inside can do damage.
27:13Yeah, now Barrios is letting Pacquiao lead it first.
27:19Get in first, take the initiative, get the jab going.
27:22Remember, Barrios' jab was effective and had Pacquiao off balance.
27:29But now he's allowed the crowd to get into this fight as well.
27:33And it's a pro-Manny Pacquiao fight inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
27:39Barrios keeping his nerve, keeping his cool.
27:42But at some point, he needs to do that and establish himself as the champion.
27:48Part of that dominance early on or in the middle rounds with Mario Barrios using that jab after.
27:54It's a close fight.
27:55The jab.
27:56How Barrios started.
27:57And here it is.
27:58So effective.
28:00Pushing Manny Pacquiao back.
28:02Getting him all off balance.
28:04Setting everything with that jab.
28:05And you said it earlier, Bernardo.
28:07You can win this entire fight simply with that jab.
28:13Hold that cup, Rich.
28:14Got it.
28:18He's starting to break down.
28:19He's going to look for one big shot.
28:20He's going to pick face on one level when he's fighting, man.
28:28He's going to be all off.
28:29He's not even going to cruise.
28:30You guys are going to cruise the whole time.
28:31Yes.
28:32All right.
28:32Let's go, Tommy.
28:33He's going to come fucking be all off.
28:35Yeah, bring it down.
28:36Let's go, Mario.
28:37Let's go, baby.
28:38Be alert, baby.
28:39Be alert.
28:43Round 8 of a scheduled 12-round WBC welterweight title fight.
28:48Bernardo Osuna alongside three-division champion Abner Madis.
28:53Combat Sports Specialist Brian Campbell.
28:56The Hall of Famers, Jim Gray, Joe Goosen, and our very own host, Ryan Custer, on the call today.
29:05Nice straight left for Manny Pacquiao.
29:07He's finding spots for his quick shots here.
29:11The timing is absolutely beautiful here.
29:14I'm impressed.
29:15The 46-year-old man, the timing's there.
29:18I mean, he talked about it.
29:19He said the training camp was good.
29:23Everything was working perfectly.
29:24And we're seeing it right now.
29:25We're going to fight really close as we're seeing 66-67 in favor of Manny Pacquiao.
29:30That's Larry Hazard's unofficial scorecard.
29:33And look, he may look like a 40-year-old, but he's not that 40-year-old we saw against
29:38your advantage for guys that he's nothing near a 46-year-old through eight rounds tonight.
29:42I think some of that is Pacquiao.
29:45Look, he's a busy politician.
29:46I'm talking about the show here for Barrios.
29:47Go ahead.
29:48Sure.
29:48And Pacquiao, he's busy in politics, philanthropy.
29:51If he's unfocused, if he's not putting in the works, sometimes you get a different Pacquiao.
29:55I think that's what we saw in the loss to Jeff Warren in 2017.
29:59Look what happened when he came back two years later.
30:02Looked completely different.
30:03Going through Broner and Thurman.
30:05Yeah, listen, there was that question.
30:07Even Barrios had, why did Manny Pacquiao choose me?
30:10Why me?
30:11Am I the weakest link?
30:13Well, I'm going to give you a simple answer.
30:15I think that Barrios waits too much.
30:17He takes his sweet time.
30:19And he's giving Pacquiao these opportunities to go in with the flurries, take his time.
30:23He does not put the pressure for this older man.
30:26So that is the answer.
30:28If Barrios was able to pressure him and throw a lot more punches like Hugo's did, it would
30:32be a whole different story.
30:33And that's a temperament issue with Mario Barrios.
30:37It's not the cure against Pacquiao.
30:39It's been his M.O.
30:42You can't give Pacquiao an enter.
30:45They'll take a lot more.
30:48Look at that.
30:49He's giving you enough space, time to think, Barrios.
30:52And Pacquiao, where are you singing it?
30:53He's taking a breather.
30:54He's relaxing, and boom.
30:57That's his punches out.
30:58That's a fast right hand.
30:59The left hand was partially blocked by Barrios, who's been very responsible defensively tonight.
31:04Made very few mistakes.
31:06Remember what Pacquiao revealed this week?
31:08He didn't pick Barrios.
31:09His wife, Jinkie, did.
31:11Watching Barrios' last fight, the draw with Abel Ramos, saying, I think you can beat that
31:16guy.
31:18Well, so far it's looking that way.
31:20This is a close fight.
31:21Unbelievable that we're here at this point in his career.
31:27Unbelievable that Manny's still here at this point in this fight.
31:31And he's competitive and taking the lead in round number eight.
31:35As a 10-second clap sounds, and Manny Pacquiao, just like the old times, getting the crowd
31:42on their feet.
31:44Big round for Manny Pacquiao.
31:49And Bob Santos is going to have to light a fire under Barrios.
31:51Beautiful combination.
32:05Beautiful combination.
32:07Great job.
32:08Yes.
32:09There is Jinkie.
32:39Maddie Pacquiao's wife, his daughter's also in attendance.
32:43She knows what she saw.
32:46She also was here the night that he got knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.
32:50So for her to say, you have what it takes, Abner, it's usually the wife who tells you
32:57the true version of who you are at your best and at your worst.
33:01You're so honest, he will tell you the truth.
33:03And if Jakey said to Maddie Pacquiao, you got what it takes to be glorious.
33:07But guess what?
33:08He's proving it tonight.
33:09We do wonder though, is that a little fool's gold in there?
33:12That was a down performance from Barrios in his own opinion.
33:15He said he was ill during training camp.
33:17He was more focused on making weight and he definitely faded down the second half.
33:21He's got to prove tonight that he is that younger fighter in command in the championship rounds.
33:25And so far, through eight rounds at the beginning of round number nine,
33:30stamina not an issue for Maddie Pacquiao.
33:33It was.
33:33How will his legs look?
33:35Will he still have that spring in his step?
33:38And so far, Abner, you have a better eye for this.
33:41What are you seeing?
33:41I'm seeing a really focused Maddie Pacquiao, an energized Maddie Pacquiao.
33:47This is the ninth round.
33:48He's throwing a lot of punches.
33:49He's moving a lot.
33:51And it almost looks like this is the younger guy's a 46-year-old man.
33:55He's moving and doing a lot more than Barrios.
33:57Look, only Pacquiao knows how much is truly left in the tank.
34:00But you wonder, is the combination of this crowd and the passion Pacquiao has for this sport,
34:06is that enough to lift him to victory?
34:08I think so.
34:09Look, I just saw Barrios have a really good body shot counter.
34:12But it's just the numbers are adding up for Maddie Pacquiao here in the last four rounds.
34:18It's just, he's running numbers on Barrios and he's just not finding answers.
34:23Yes.
34:23To answer your question, Brian, yes.
34:25You feed off the energy of the people.
34:27And that's what Maddie Pacquiao is known for.
34:29The crowd, they love Maddie Pacquiao.
34:31They know he can't do it.
34:32And I'm a believer right now.
34:34And they may not be six-punched flurries, but they are three and four-punched combinations from the Pac-Man.
34:41And it's enough to give Barrios doubt.
34:44It's enough to discipline him just enough to prevent him from letting go of those combinations,
34:48including that straight right hand.
34:50And more importantly, it's enough for the judges to believe what they're seeing in the ring with their own eyes.
34:56But for Barrios, when you start thinking, come on, I'm the younger guy, I'm stronger, I'm bigger.
35:02I've got to start pushing this old man back.
35:05It's not there yet.
35:08Look, there's 35 seconds left in this ninth round.
35:11And right before he started this ninth round, Bob Santos told Mario Barrios,
35:16do not allow him to steal rounds from you because this happens.
35:21The crowd gets going and Maddie gets going.
35:26Let's see what kind of response Barrios has.
35:30I'll tell you one thing, the jab is gone.
35:32There it is, right on cue.
35:33The jab is totally gone from Mario Barrios.
35:37That's what was dictating the fight in the beginning.
35:40That allows Pacquiao to get close to land these shots.
35:42Let's make sure we take these last three rounds in the bank.
35:58But now let's close the show, okay?
36:03Last three rounds in the bank.
36:04Use the shit out of that jab and bang the body.
36:11And when you hurt him with a body shot, lift it off an angle.
36:14And this is how Maddie Pacquiao is winning rounds.
36:20He throws a combination of punches, a flurry.
36:23One, two, one, two.
36:25Boom.
36:26Four, one, two.
36:27And he's going straight back, Mario Barrios.
36:29But he opens up.
36:32He leaves himself open for Barrios to counterpunch.
36:34But he does not pull the trigger.
36:38There's Sebastian Fundora defended his title successfully against the man.
36:43He took it from Tim Zou just moments ago.
36:46And now Manny Pacquiao looking to make history again.
36:51How do you give a 46-year-old a break in the corner?
36:59Thomas Taylor is all like, I'm taking it.
37:01If you guys can't fix it, I'm fixing it.
37:04All of this will just benefit Pacquiao.
37:06I mean, Barrios as well, but this is what Pacquiao needs.
37:09He's using all the tricks of the book right now, Manny.
37:11You have to.
37:12And let's see how Thomas Taylor reacts to that cheekiness in the corner of Manny Pacquiao
37:26because he doesn't play any games.
37:29Nice flurry there from Mario Barrios.
37:32The instructions from Bob Santos as I come out and dominate these last three rounds.
37:36These are the championship rounds.
37:38And artificial scorer Larry Hazard has Manny Pacquiao up 87-84.
37:45So Barrios needs all the last three rounds just to get a draw.
37:49What's your scorecard look like, Brian?
37:51Five rounds to four in favor of Manny Pacquiao.
37:55And you've got to wonder how many close rounds just by that explosion of the crowd
38:00are going to lean Manny's way.
38:02We've talked about the sentimental favorite.
38:06These judges are human.
38:07They know what they're experiencing.
38:10They know what they're living.
38:11And that's the difficulty of separating yourself.
38:14And that's why Barrios has to do exactly what he did there.
38:18Throw flurries, connect, and push Pacquiao back.
38:22The opportunities there.
38:23We talked about every time that Pacquiao throws a combination, he leaves himself open.
38:29And Marrios does not execute it.
38:31Does not let the right hand go.
38:32There it is, the jab.
38:33He's got to get it going again.
38:34Get the rhythm.
38:35Get the momentum.
38:35Look, it's one thing if you're 46 and you're only relying on power to stay relevant.
38:42Pacquiao is outthinking and outperforming Barrios up to this point.
38:46To the point that Pacquiao has outlanded Barrios in three of the last four rounds.
38:51He's 16 years older than Mario Barrios.
38:54And you know what?
38:55He turned pro four months before Barrios was born.
38:58Won his first world title when Barrios was three.
39:01Beat Barren in San Antonio, Barrios' hometown, when he was eight years old.
39:06But you know what?
39:06We talked about it.
39:07If anybody can defy Father Time, if anybody can say,
39:11I could care less what your doubts are, I believe in myself, and God is in my corner.
39:17It's Manny Pacquiao.
39:20Wow.
39:21Pacquiao isn't proving as much.
39:23That age is just a number.
39:24I think he's proving that he is a true one-of-one with this performance so far.
39:29He is definitely one-of-one with using all the tricks, all the experience.
39:35We're blocking those shots and counter-punching effectively.
39:38Speaking of Manny Pacquiao, beautiful body shot.
39:41And he's still on his toes.
39:44Tenth round, and Manny Pacquiao is so elusive still with this footwork.
39:48Shades of Sugar Ray Leonard over marvelous Marvin Hagler.
39:52Still a lot of boxing to go here.
39:54We've got six minutes and 20 seconds left for history to be made.
39:58And it's still up in the balance.
40:00There's a lot of rounds that could have gone either way here.
40:03So neither can feel like I've got this fight in the bank.
40:07The championship rounds will be crucial here at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
40:13What a privilege it is to call Manny Pacquiao's return.
40:23Hey.
40:25Too loud to go.
40:26Be alert.
40:27Don't show him no fucking respect.
40:30No fucking respect.
40:31Don't touch his fucking gloves.
40:33Be alert.
40:34And don't show him no fucking respect.
40:36But be alert.
40:37Okay?
40:38He's trying to run you into something.
40:40Unit champion.
40:41We need the jab and banging the shit out of his body.
40:44He don't like it.
40:45That's why he keeps trying to touch gloves you.
40:46Don't fucking respect him.
40:48But be alert.
40:49Okay?
40:50He's trying to rest.
40:51You've got to work.
40:52All right?
40:52Don't let him rest.
40:53He's trying to wrestle between his combinations.
40:55I don't care if he misses.
40:57Let's go.
40:57Stay with him.
40:58All right?
40:59Hey, these last two rounds are going to change your life, son.
41:01Let's go, baby.
41:02Let's go.
41:03All you got to do is stay with him.
41:04All right?
41:05Smart.
41:06It's that hard pressure.
41:07Here we go.
41:08Jab.
41:08If Staple Center was the house that Kobe built, the United Center was the house that Jordan
41:14built, this MGM Grand Garden Arena is the house that Manny Pacquiao built.
41:2016th fight in this building.
41:23And this man knows that the judges have their work cut out here.
41:30Yeah, definitely do.
41:31And this is Barrios.
41:32Plus rounds.
41:33Excuse me.
41:33This is Barrios' moment to listen to his corner and his trainer, Bob Santos, and let respect
41:38go off the window and let your hands go.
41:41Really important three rounds for both sides.
41:45Really close fight.
41:46Really close rounds.
41:47It's Manny Pacquiao doing exactly what he used to do, but then he gets to do this.
41:54That's the best combination we've seen from Manny Pacquiao as Pacquiao touches his gloves.
42:01And that is there all the time.
42:03Every time that Manny Pacquiao takes that first step in, he's got his guard open.
42:09Barrios has got to take the advantage and let those hands go.
42:11Like that.
42:12You split the guard with the jab.
42:14And now what do you do behind it?
42:15A left hook.
42:16A triple left hook.
42:17From Mario Barrios.
42:19This is exactly what you need to do when you're the younger, taller, bigger fighter.
42:29Simple as that.
42:30Manny Pacquiao took a step back and said something.
42:33And he stopped the momentum of Barrios.
42:35That was a short right hook from Manny Pacquiao.
42:38Now he's starting to dart in.
42:40That's good for him, but it also creates openings for Mario Barrios.
42:43Like that one with the left hook and the right downstairs.
42:46That was a good body shot.
42:48Give and take action here in round 11.
42:53There's that lead right from Mario Barrios.
42:55Switching things up.
42:56And now he's got Pacquiao on the back foot.
42:58No matter how this fight ends, this is the 11 round and to be seen, Manny Pacquiao, the 46-year-old legend, champion, people's champion, fighting the way he is.
43:15Oh my God, my ultimate respect.
43:19Look, you came back after a four-year layoff.
43:22What did that feel compared to what you're seeing in the ring tonight?
43:26Nothing compared to what I did when I came back for four years.
43:29After four years, I was missing a lot of timing.
43:32And I've not seen any of that with Manny Pacquiao.
43:35Another right hand from Manny Pacquiao.
43:37Two-punch combination following up.
43:39This is where he has the position to potentially steal a round.
43:43I've loved the work of Barrios up to this point.
43:47You see, Barrios, once he has something going for him, he's landing shots, all of a sudden he stops.
43:52There's a nice lead left on the jab from Mario Barrios.
43:56And that's what he did.
43:57He quieted the crowd just as they were getting going.
43:59That's the one thing he's done the last three rounds, is quiet the crowd just as they were crescendoing.
44:07There's a nice straight left from Manny Pacquiao.
44:10Someone's got to steal the round.
44:14Nice jab from Mario Barrios.
44:18Held his ground in round number 11.
44:22This is the first time he's landed over 10 power punches in a round.
44:26And it took him 11 rounds to do it.
44:28Now Pacquiao on his feet.
44:35Last round, we're going to touch him at the belt.
44:39Let's take him to the belt.
44:44Good night.
44:48Don't force it, but jab him right.
44:50And dig hard.
44:52Don't snap, camera jab.
44:54And dig hard.
44:55Make sure your hands are coming back up, all right?
44:56Off the text, dig to that bar right there, all right?
44:59Close the show, but be super alert.
45:01No fucking respect.
45:03No fucking respect, but be alert.
45:06All right?
45:07You'll change your life, bro.
45:08You'll change your life.
45:09Let's go, buddy.
45:10Let's get it.
45:12Are we about to witness history?
45:15Here we go.
45:16This is it.
45:21Will Manipatia win a world title at age 46?
45:27The first Hall of Famer to come back and do it?
45:31Or will Mario Barrios send everybody home sad?
45:35That the 46-year-old was in control until the championship rounds.
45:42See, if you're Mario Barrios, why are you starting the round like this?
45:46You've got to push Manny Pacquiao back.
45:48This is the last round.
45:50You're the younger fighter.
45:51You've got more in you, so I believe or think.
45:53But he's not showing any signs of that.
45:57He's already proved his point.
45:58Did Pacquiao win or lose?
46:00The point that he's not yet done with boxing, and he also added on,
46:04I'm different than every other fighter.
46:06Boy, is he.
46:0774-69 power punch land advantage.
46:11And there's 75 for Manny Pacquiao at straight left.
46:17It's going to be about experience.
46:18It's going to be about hunger.
46:20It's going to be about desire.
46:21It's going to be about feeding off the crowd.
46:24It's going to be about who wants to win tonight.
46:28So far, I'm seeing Manny Pacquiao.
46:30Manny Pacquiao's the one that's dictating right now.
46:32Oh, even though Barrios came back with that.
46:36And that was good angles from Mario Barrios.
46:38And once again, the lead right.
46:39This is what Barrios needs to do.
46:42Pacquiao tries his best to answer.
46:48Really, both of them have done a great job.
46:49Whenever the other fighter lands a big combination, they come right back.
47:02I wanted to say Pacquiao looks tired.
47:04He looks weary.
47:05Every time I think that, he surges back with a three-poach combination.
47:09But this rhythm of fight, it benefits Pacquiao right now.
47:15I think why is Barrios allowed in that rhythm of fight?
47:18Yeah, no clue.
47:18I mean, the coach has told him already, Bob Santos, you got to push.
47:23This is your last round.
47:25He's going to change your life last round, but we're not seeing that from Barrios.
47:29Nice defense, then, from Manny Pacquiao.
47:34Absolutely.
47:35The bigger question soon might be, how will this win change Pacquiao's legacy if it happens here?
47:40As we're pretty even in this final round.
47:43Good flurry there from Mario Barrios.
47:46What answer will Manny Pacquiao have?
47:49That's right.
47:50An uppercut.
47:52Here we go.
47:53Guys, let's just let the people take us home here.
47:59No one has defied the odds more than Manny Pacquiao.
48:25He's fighting as a young man for a few Filipino vessels to put food on the table for his family
48:31when they didn't even have rice to eat.
48:34To headlining for the 15th time inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
48:39Looking to make history at 46 years old because his wife, Jiki, said,
48:43I think you can beat this man.
48:46This is not a movie script.
48:47This is real life.
48:48But only a fighter like Manny Pacquiao can bring this to life.
48:55Only going to come down, though, to the opinion of those three judges that score at ringside.
49:04As we look back at the action we saw throughout this fight,
49:09when Barrios committed to that jab, Abner, it was his consistent weapon along with that right cross.
49:14But he had big bouts of inactivity as that fight went on.
49:18Yeah, that jab was dictating everything.
49:20The momentum, the rhythm of Manny Pacquiao stopping him on his tracks
49:23and opening up the guard for that right hand, straight punches from Mario Barrios.
49:29But he stopped doing that.
49:31And Manny Pacquiao let his hands go and he was winning rounds, making rounds really close.
49:35So, again, a really close fight and we'll find out if all the time is still undefeated tonight.
49:42We will see what the numbers look like with the judges because that's what really matters.
49:48But these are the CompuBox numbers.
49:50And you see that overall, it was Mario Barrios outlanding Manny Pacquiao by 17 or 19 punches.
49:58The power punches, that's what favored Manny Pacquiao by 6 and the 25-punch jab advantage from Mario Barrios.
50:07But it doesn't tell the story of what we saw in the ring tonight.
50:10It's really going to come down to that classic argument a lot.
50:12The jabs of Barrios against the cleaner power punches of Manny Pacquiao.
50:17For what it's worth, I thought Barrios overtook Pacquiao in the scorecards in that final round.
50:217 rounds to 5 overall.
50:23But I'm just one opinion that doesn't matter.
50:25These rounds were close.
50:27This one really feels like it could go either way.
50:30Manny Pacquiao, the chance to make history once again.
50:34And you see the embrace from Mario Barrios.
50:36And I think Mario Barrios, if he doesn't get the nod tonight, will look back at those middle rounds
50:42when he allowed Manny Pacquiao to go downhill and take control.
50:47And Bob Santos kept telling him, these are rounds that are going to change your life, son.
50:51Come on, push it.
50:53Show me something.
50:53Let your hands go.
50:55But it was the moment that we will give Manny Pacquiao the space, the time to let his hands
51:01go, that he would let Manny Pacquiao do the rounds.
51:03Finally, your scorecard before we go to Jimmy Lennon Jr., Brian.
51:067 rounds to 5.
51:071-15, 1-13 in favor of Barrios.
51:10Could you see 7-5 in either direction?
51:12I think so.
51:13I have the same scorecard as does our unofficial scorer, Larry Hazard.
51:18But the ones that count are in the hands of the always classy Jimmy Lennon Jr.
51:26Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards.
51:32Judge at the ringside, Max DeLuca scores the bout 115 to 113 in favor of Mario Barrios.
51:41Judges at ringside, Steve Weisfeld and Tim Cheatham both score the bout 114 to 114.
51:53The decision is a majority draw.
52:00And of course, in that case, the champion retains his title.
52:08Mario Barrios won the 12th round on all three scorecards to retain.
