00:00Okay, we went over the rules in the dressing room.
00:03Punches here are good, punches right here are going to be good, okay?
00:06Okay, obey my commands, give me a good, clean fight.
00:09Touch him up, scoop back.
00:21Era where world titles are somewhat easy to come by.
00:25Mark McSayo did not have an easy pass to his.
00:29He had to defeat Gary Russell Jr., who will also be fighting on the card tonight.
00:35Then he had to take on Ray Vargas, lost that fight.
00:38Brandon Figueroa, who will also be on tonight's card.
00:41But here he is trying to fight his way back into world title contention.
00:46And Bernardo, at age 30, McSayo really thinks this is a second chapter in his career,
00:51saying that his losses at featherweight were largely due to the dehydration from his weight cut.
00:55He expects to be at full form this evening and moving forward in this division.
00:59Yeah, Mark McSayo known by his speed, pressure, sidesteps.
01:05I mean, he is a really explosive fighter.
01:08Early on in his career, he was trained by Freddie Roach.
01:13Still within the wild card stable where now he is trained by Marvin Simodio,
01:19who is the right hand of Freddie Roach.
01:21And because of the fact that both are Filipinos, they said it's just easier to communicate and really get to the next level together.
01:29Combination there from McSayo.
01:32Yeah, that's one thing about McSayo.
01:34He sets up his combinations with that jab.
01:37Really brilliant.
01:38Ooh, nice straight right hand on the counter from Mark McSayo early on,
01:42trying to establish his dominance against the fighter out of Guadalajara.
01:48And for Jorge Mata, you talk about a big opportunity here as an uppercut from Mark McSayo splits the guard.
01:53This is his first fight in the United States after 25 in Mexico,
01:57in his first fight against a current or former world champion.
02:00Yeah, Mata's got to be careful.
02:02He can't just throw one or two punches.
02:03He's got to do a combination because McSayo is counter punching every single shot.
02:07And McSayo just being very efficient.
02:10You see the variation in his punches.
02:13He's been efficient with the jab, the right uppercut, straight right hand,
02:17and he's really making Khan Mata pick his poison.
02:21Mm-hmm.
02:22Nice left hand by McSayo.
02:24There goes Mata with an overhand right, partially deflected by McSayo.
02:32There's a body shot from McSayo.
02:34Trying to wear down the fighter from Mexico.
02:38And hook from Mata.
02:41And Mata's a strong fighter.
02:42He will stand toe-to-toe with you.
02:44I mean, we've seen it right now, McSayo landing some good combinations.
02:47But again, Mata's still there.
02:49Ooh, nice one-two from McSayo again, partially blocked by Mata.
02:54But you could see that McSayo is just centimeters away from landing a big shot here.
02:58Look, McSayo has always believed in his power.
03:01He's athletic.
03:02And to see him coming in now at this weight class with that full gas tank,
03:06you see that confidence continue to build.
03:08Abner, we look at it.
03:11Four pounds.
03:12Okay.
03:13But as a fighter, what type of difference is it?
03:15No, it's a big difference.
03:16Listen, I went up from 118 to 122 to 26 and it slows you down a bit.
03:22You know, so you got to prepare yourself.
03:24It's not just skipping a weight class from one week to another.
03:26You got to prepare for it.
03:28Do you want to mishay?
03:28No!
03:2915...
03:3016.
03:3116.
03:3217.
03:3317.
03:3418.
03:3518.
03:3620.
03:3720.
03:3820.
03:3920.
03:4020.
03:4120.
03:4220.
03:4321.
03:4420.
03:4520.
03:4621.
03:4721.
03:4821.
03:4922.
03:5022.
03:5132.
03:5222.
03:5322.
03:5422.
03:5522.
03:5622.
03:57And we are going to see a replay of Maxayo's effective jab and counter punching.
04:16Beautiful jab there, right where Mata was going in.
04:20Straight jab from Maxayo.
04:22Maxayo was inspired to start boxing while watching Manny Pacquiao defeat Marquandana.
04:27And just like Canelo used to sell paletas in Guadalajara, Maxayo used to sell ice cream
04:34in the Philippines.
04:35And you know, he specifically said on the inspiration of Pacquiao, he was inspired to
04:40get his own family out of poverty like Manny did and to bring honor to his country.
04:44And when you talk to Maxayo, he doesn't go a sentence without mentioning Manny's name
04:48or his homeland of the Philippines.
04:51Only difference is he's an orthodox fighter, but here we go, the exchange in the center
04:55of the ring.
04:56Mata proven to be game, and Maxayo just a little bit more quick and precise with his
05:00punches.
05:01Straight right to the body.
05:02All these fighters, they want to simulate Manny Pacquiao's style.
05:05Even though he's a right-hander right here, he's so explosive like Manny.
05:08He's quick.
05:09He's got really, really hard punches.
05:13Look, Mata, as we mentioned, is there to be found.
05:16He's an action fighter who will stand in front of you.
05:18But that has left him open for that explosive right uppercut so far from Maxayo.
05:22And just like Pacquiao, Maxayo is not afraid to leap in.
05:27Oh, nice body shot after missing with the left hook from Maxayo.
05:32Digging shot to the liver.
05:33I like that.
05:34He missed that left, and he makes sure he landed that body shot.
05:39You might be able to move your head, but guess what's going to be pretty stationary?
05:42It's going to be that midsection.
05:45Another body shot sets up the shots to the head from Mark Maxayo.
05:54Good start for the Filipino fighter early on.
05:57You know, Mata has fairly good polish for a fighter who didn't pick up boxing in any form until the age of 17.
06:04And Abner, you know, that's rare now at 24 for someone to gain that much experience
06:09considering how often guys walk into the gym in the single digits to learn this game.
06:13Really rare.
06:14And right now, Mata has got to step it up a little bit.
06:16He's got to throw that jab.
06:17He's got to slow down Maxayo's aggression.
06:23He's waiting too long.
06:24Yeah, his trainer, Cesar Gaetan, told me, look, watch out for that left hook from Mata,
06:29because if Maxayo makes a mistake, we're going to make him pay.
06:40And he's got opportunities right there.
06:42There it was for Mata.
06:43Right when Maxayo goes in, you can come back with your own punches.
06:47Asking for more feints from Mata early on, and that's a nice jab.
06:56Sending Maxayo backwards.
06:58There's a nice right over the top from Mata.
07:03But again, it's only one shot.
07:05He's got to throw more than, he's got to throw the, not just the one, two.
07:08It's one, two, three.
07:09The three piece.
07:10Oh, straight right from Maxayo after the clash of heads between these two fighters momentarily.
07:15I just like the punch variety from Maxayo, but Mata really doing well coming over the top with the right hand.
07:22The counter there from Mata as he timed Maxayo.
07:24There it is again.
07:26We'll listen in to Cesar Gaitan in Mata's corner.
07:35I need you to, don't look.
07:37You need to work downstairs.
07:38You need to work downstairs.
07:39Here, put that, uh, mouthpiece of water.
07:42How do you feel?
07:43Everything you hit on, we've been working on it.
07:47Countering the uppercut.
07:48How's the punch?
07:50I need you to work downstairs.
07:51Don't let him get momentum.
07:55Every time he throws something, you gotta answer.
07:58Especially with your right hand.
08:00Your timing is great.
08:11And right here, we're gonna see that right hand that Mata was landing right in the chin on cue.
08:16It was a couple of times that he landed.
08:18And it's when the aggression comes from Maxayo.
08:21He opens up.
08:22But then again, Maxayo, he misses with one shot.
08:24But guess what?
08:25He makes you pay.
08:26And he lands that body shot.
08:29There was two clash, two head clashes in that round.
08:32And, you know, that's something that both fighters acknowledged.
08:35But it's just the way Mata leans in.
08:38And Maxayo is aggressive coming over the top.
08:40But right there, Mata with the counter left hook.
08:43Nice right to the body from Maxayo as the action heats up early on in round three.
08:47Yeah, but again, Maxayo, he opens up a lot when he wants to go in with this combination.
08:52So Mata, he has to throw those straight punches.
08:55Well, they're still largely taking turns after another in terms of getting off their offense.
08:59You wonder if Mata can punch with Maxayo, whether that can make a difference with that counter right hand.
09:04And how will he do as the fight progresses?
09:08This is the first time at the elite level.
09:09Right now, they're going toe-to-toe in round three.
09:12Good left hook there from Mata, who is picking up that timing well.
09:16Nice body shot from Maxayo.
09:18Partially blocked by the elbow of Mata.
09:20And he lands his left hook over the top.
09:23Here comes pressure from Mata now.
09:25Look, we knew this entire card would be a lot of potential for all action.
09:30This fight's starting off very well.
09:33Talked about these guys setting the tone.
09:35Mexico, Philippines, a burgeoning rivalry in the sport of boxing.
09:38And you can see why.
09:40Both cultures have a lot of heart, different skill set, similar roots.
09:46Come on, work out, work out.
09:47Let him go.
09:48There you go.
09:52Good faint right there from Maxayo.
09:55But he had to come back with something.
09:58You can certainly see the maturity in Maxayo's game.
10:00It used to be a lot more about aggressiveness, athleticism, explosion.
10:05A lot more polish and intent in what he's looking to do here under Marvin Simodio.
10:09Yeah, he's definitely a thinking man in there.
10:12He's waiting for the right time.
10:13He's waiting for the opening.
10:14He's moving back right now.
10:16Again, the same thing because Mata's being aggressive as well.
10:21Maxayo connected to the body and went straight back.
10:24And that's a dangerous proposition against a power puncher like Mata.
10:29The jab's landing good for Mata.
10:31Yup.
10:32That was a great counter jab.
10:35Quick flutter there from Maxayo.
10:37And here comes the answer from Mata.
10:39Look back and forth this round.
10:41All in the center of the ring.
10:43You haven't heard referee Robert Hoyle's name mentioned one time.
10:46Is there a referee in the ring today?
10:48That's exactly what we want to see.
10:50Yeah, you want to keep it clean.
10:52The corner did want Mata to take the initiative to pressure more.
10:58To put Maxayo on the back foot and see if he can fight on the back foot.
11:02Oh yeah, and he's definitely doing that in this round.
11:04I want to see a little bit more body work though for Mata while he's pressing.
11:08There's a nice right hand over the top from Mata.
11:12Maxayo got a little bit too comfortable thinking he was out of range.
11:15And he wasn't.
11:16Nice left uppercut from Maxayo.
11:1810 seconds.
11:1910 seconds.
11:2010 seconds.
11:2110 seconds.
11:2210 seconds.
11:23It's the counter punch of Pramata in this last round.
11:25A really good run for him.
11:26And now we'll listen into Marvin Somodio with his charge of Mark Maxayo.
11:391, 2, 1, 2, 1.
11:45Mark 3!
11:47Mark 3!
11:49Mark 3!
11:52and here we're gonna see a flurry from Exile beautiful combination and he's so great
12:21he's good at that but then again he pulls back and it was a counter punching from Mata
12:26he's timing perfectly with that left hook and that was a really good round for Mata
12:31round four of a scheduled 10th round super featherweight attraction Bernardo Osuna
12:36alongside Abner Mares and Brian Campbell and look at the speed from Mark McSayo at the outset of
12:43fourth round body shot from McSayo those are ripping shots downstairs yeah I want to see the sidestep
12:50though from from McSayo you're done throwing the combination little sidestep don't step back
12:55big right cross there from McSayo
12:57create another opening there it is lead right up jab from McSayo left hook and you're seeing McSayo
13:07sitting on his punches here and not allowing Mata to answer I like that he's taking the initiative
13:13he's being first and why let Mata get off if you can so you got to keep throwing if you're McSayo
13:19again jab jab keep him busy oh what a right uppercut for Mark McSayo I don't know how Mata was able to
13:25take that shot but those are the ones that are really going to do the damage the liver shots for
13:29Mark McSayo as he's got Mata pinned against the ropes blood emanating from his nose
13:34that right uppercut is the most dangerous in the arsenal of McSayo he feels like he has his opponent
13:41hurt here it took him three rounds and this is the fourth round you talked about it Brian
13:46him being so more poised being relaxed studying the fighter and I think he saw that he saw that once
13:51he started pressuring letting his hands go he's so effective you know what I can read Abner's mind
13:56right now he's saying turn him to the left so he doesn't bring that bloody nose to the corner
14:02please do not I got a white suit on come on guys that's a beautiful right hand from Mark McSayo
14:08and an answer from Mata that was an absolute legitimate left hook answer from Mata gain back
14:13some respect there after being stuck on the ropes and this is where he wants to fight I mean there's
14:19no safe place against McSayo but you do not want your back against the ropes Abner no definitely not but
14:24here it is just when you say Mata pushing back he does not want to stay on the ropes but again let's
14:29talk about that chin he took a lot of shots but now is Mata coming back
14:32McSayo taking a deep breath here because he threw a lot of punches
14:37in this round
14:38there's a nice straight right from Jorge Mata saying okay you punched out give me my shot
14:46there's the bloody nose right there from Mata
14:53Mata stay away from me Mata Abner's dry cleaner going to be busy later this weekend
14:59oh but there it is beautiful shot from Mata but he's got to finish to the body he's got to dig dig
15:05to the body more he's got to tire up Mata the sniping shots from Mata especially with the left and the
15:11variation and you don't know where it's going to come from and it sets up that right uppercut
15:15Mata though taking a B in this round he's still coming forward
15:1910 seconds 10 segundos
15:21oh nice one right from Mata says it may be your round but take this to your corner
15:28how are you doing?
15:34how are you doing?
15:35venga wey
15:36venga siéntate
15:37sit down
15:38no estas soltando wey te estas dejando entrar todos los golpes wey tu tambien contragolpea
15:41mas por quince de golpes
15:43quieres que te pare la pelea o que?
15:45pues sueltele wey
15:46sueltele
15:47trabaja lo que sabemos hacer wey
15:49ok?
15:49do what we know how to do
15:51no te quedes
15:52don't stay
15:53le tiene mucho la derecha wey
15:55he's timing your right hand
15:57the uppercut is the one that's really hurting you
15:59we worked on blocking that
16:01stay off the ropes
16:03and we're going to see the uppercuts from Baxayo that landed that first one
16:07two uppercuts that almost brought down Mata but Mata's got a great chin
16:12there it is right in the nose that would that's what made that nose bleed
16:15but at the end the hard nose the hard chin Mata came back with
16:19that right hand and he pressed on the gas towards the end
16:26round five of a scheduled ten round fight here at the MGM Grand Garden Arena
16:35and much like Manny Pacquiao tonight's headliner Mark McSaya wants to make a name for himself
16:40in this same venue he'll have to do it against a mexican fighter by the name of El Kun
16:46El Can Jorge Mata
16:48Yeah again McSaya sold
16:51That's a right uppercut from Mata that lasts on Masayo
16:55So good with the combinations with the explosiveness but again you want to keep Mata busy and how do you do that you jab you keep him busy even if it's not a hard jab there it is you keep him entertained with that
17:05and if McSaya does not pick up an adjustment for that counter right hand it could be trouble as this fight progresses
17:12The shots you're able to take early on in the night all of a sudden start to hurt a little bit more
17:17You don't see them as well
17:19Nice right uppercut that's why the body work that Agner mentioned is so important you see the body work there from McSaya but he leaves himself open for a counter left
17:27You guys are fighting you already see that you got a hard fighter in front of you that is taking everything
17:34All right you got to be smart of it you got to set up the punches break them down break that body
17:39Mata enters with plenty of confidence having a five fight win streak going into tonight dating back to a split decision defeat two years ago to Jose Luis Hernandez
17:55That's the only time he's been dropped in his career
17:58See how
18:00McSaya is able to walk him back into the ropes but immediately Mata is smart enough to get away from that
18:06Yeah Mata always has an answer he knows that McSaya is going to come in with a lot of punches but with the hands down
18:11Perfect time to counter punch with that left
18:20Nice jab from both fighters
18:23But you can see that Mata is thinking before he's throwing like he's tentative here
18:28Oh yeah
18:30He's got a sharp jab though strong jab opening up that guard from McSaya
18:34And it opens up
18:36The ability to throw that overhand right which is landed all night but so has the body work from Mark McSaya
18:53Mata really making McSaya think here you can sort of visibly see that as he takes a step back to reset
18:59Making him think making him work
19:01I mean Mata again great chin
19:03Big heart and he keeps coming
19:06The thing is BuckSaya is thinking alright body work he's taking my best shot to deliver how about a jab okay he's taking that my right hand okay
19:15But we know
19:16Nice right hand there from Mata to close out this fifth round
19:20We get to the midway point of this our opener
19:22In this fifth round we get to the midway point of this our opener
19:24From Las Vegas
19:26From Los Angeles
19:27."
19:34Okay, lamang pa rin tayo.
19:36Huwag kami kumpiansa.
19:37Okay?
19:38Kalian maintain mo yung activity.
19:40Hindi ko edain mo...
19:41Ayaw mo siya mag-job na mag-job
19:43para sa mga judges magiging ano.
19:45Magpupunta sila.
19:46Ikaw dapat ng masipag sa muntok.
19:48Okay?
19:49Kahit mahinaan, basta may activity
19:51tapos sarap.
19:52Okay?
19:53Yung hook straight mo, nandiyan palagi.
19:55Where are we going?
19:57Atras ka, hata ka, hook strike
19:59But it's not fast
20:01It's just like a one shot
20:03Then it's a half hour
20:07Just a half hour
20:09Let's try it
20:11We'll go for a week
20:25Jorge Mata understands what a great opportunity this is for his career to face a former world
20:37champion in Marc Macsayo.
20:40Man, he's taking some heavy leather from Macsayo who lands solid right hands here and the right
20:46uppercut.
20:48I mean, Macsayo's coming out on a mission here in the sixth round after.
20:52He came on guns blazing.
20:53Oh, big right hand for Macsayo.
20:56And again, that's what you need to do.
20:58The guy is right in front of you.
21:00He doesn't throw unless you throw.
21:01He's trying to counterpunch you.
21:03So you throw, you land your hands, and you finish to the body.
21:06That's what I want from Macsayo.
21:08Break this guy down.
21:09He's got a great chin.
21:11Blood continuing to flow from the nose of Mata after those combinations.
21:16I mean, you hear those thudding shots downstairs.
21:20You and I haven't taken it.
21:21What does that feel like, Adner?
21:22Oh, it feels bad.
21:24Especially the body shots, man.
21:25Those are the ones that hurt the most, really.
21:27It numbs your whole body.
21:28I mean, is the old adage true?
21:29You'd rather take a body shot than a clean one to the head?
21:31Yeah.
21:32I'm sorry.
21:32The other way around.
21:33The other way around.
21:34I would 100%.
21:35Yeah, take it back.
21:37I'd much rather take a head shot than a body shot.
21:39Most trainers would say, I'd rather take neither.
21:43Hit and not get hit.
21:46Something, luckily for the entertainment of this fight, these guys have been neglecting at times.
21:51And I think that's going to be the tone for the rest of the evening.
21:53We're going to see some great action as the night progresses here in Las Vegas.
21:57Nice left hook there once again from Maxayo.
22:01He's just finding his timing perfectly here in the sixth round.
22:05Maxayo did not like that body shot.
22:08You saw the grimace on his face as he set up a counter combination.
22:11Yeah, he tried to set up a combination and Mata hit him right at the body.
22:17He did not like it.
22:19But again, Maxayo came back with his own punches.
22:22And one thing about Maxayo, always in shape, especially now in a higher division where he's got more of that gas tank to lean on.
22:29Only Mata threw a little bit more because, again, the aggression's there, the pressure.
22:33And Maxayo's feeling it.
22:34But again, Mata not letting his hands go.
22:36And every time he does, they land.
22:38Nice jab, an up jab there from Mata.
22:42Can he follow it up?
22:43Is he willing to take that risk?
22:45Because there's going to be leather coming back.
22:48And heavy leather from Maxayo.
22:49And I'm sure he knows that.
22:51But again, you take two, three to land just the perfect one.
22:54I think that's what Mata looks like.
22:56Mata, he gets tangled up off balance with the right uppercut from Mark Maxayo.
23:01That's been the money shot from Maxayo here in this fight.
23:08See, and it's easy for Mata to pressure Maxayo because Maxayo's just moving straight back.
23:13He's moving side to side, but he ends up in the same place.
23:16And he's not throwing anything back.
23:17Again, keep him busy with the jab.
23:19Holy turn.
23:20Stop his aggression by you getting in the middle.
23:27Nice, nice punctuation for a great round from Maxayo.
23:30You're not throwing the right hand.
23:54It's an uppercut.
23:56Switch it up on him.
24:00This is our guy.
24:06Come on.
24:16Agua, people, agua.
24:17Give him some water.
24:20Let's go, let's go, let's go.
24:21Check it out.
24:24He's yours.
24:24Use the right hand.
24:26Use the uppercut.
24:28What do you think of those instructions, Abner?
24:29Oh, those were really good instructions for Mata.
24:33An even better translation from Bernardo.
24:36Come on.
24:37Look, when I was speaking with Cesar Gaitani, he told me Jorge Mata gets better as the rounds progress.
24:45And we'll see if that continues to be the case.
24:47But Maxayo, he's not taking anything off the gas pedal.
24:51He's still pressuring coming forward.
24:52Look, Mata's proving that he's game, he can take a great punch, and he's willing to stand in the center of that ring.
24:58But in the second half, he's going to have to start winning some rounds where it's visibly noticeable to attempt to make some dents on the scorecard here.
25:06Yeah, like I said earlier, it's not just about putting the pressure, it's about landing your shots.
25:10Yes, Mata's pressuring, Mata's pushing Maxayo back, but he's not throwing enough punches.
25:15And it's Maxayo counterpunching effectively every time.
25:19And he's initiating exchanges as well.
25:23So Maxayo just having a great night tonight.
25:27But you see how repetitive he is, and the way he just, you mentioned it, Abner, he ends up in the same spot.
25:35Keeps moving back.
25:35Someone with more experience is going to take advantage of that.
25:38Come on, work out.
25:39There were times where Mata was landing that beautiful left.
25:41He was timing Maxayo when he was coming in.
25:43He would open up the guard.
25:46And beautiful left hook.
25:47But the one that just landed a beautiful left to the body was Maxayo.
25:50Those Maxayo body punches are snapping off of the midsection there of Mata.
25:55Sorry, that was a right hook to the body, yeah.
25:59That's the left hook from Maxayo.
26:11Corner of Mata saying, hey, he's getting tired.
26:13Go after him.
26:15But he's got to close that gap.
26:16And not this way, because Maxayo throws 3-1.
26:20And his punches are heavy tonight.
26:23Another one of those counter-right uppercuts from Maxayo.
26:27Maxayo's a hard-hitting puncher.
26:29He's got 18 knockouts.
26:30I've seen him knock out guys fast.
26:33But his Mata has got a great chin tonight.
26:37And you can see it on him.
26:38He's determined.
26:39He's determined to make his name in this fight tonight.
26:42And he's never been knocked down, according to his trainer.
26:46He says he took a knee against Hernandez.
26:48But you could understand why.
26:49Because he has been taking some shots from a world-class fighter.
26:54A man who's been in the ring with and beaten Gary Russell Jr.
26:58Was in the ring against Ray Vargas and Brandon Figueroa.
27:01And he just digs downstairs with bad intentions, man.
27:05And I think this was the problem when he fought Figueroa, Maxayo.
27:09That he couldn't deal with the pressure.
27:11The pressure from Figueroa was effective because he was landing shots.
27:15He was throwing shots.
27:16Unfortunately, Mata in this fight, he's pressuring again.
27:19But no punches thrown.
27:20Ten seconds.
27:20Or not enough punches thrown.
27:22There has to be effective pressure.
27:24You can tell Mata's been to war through these first seven rounds.
27:39Can you hold this?
27:41Okay.
27:44Okay, rinse it.
27:45Give me the towel.
27:47Okay.
27:48It's a little more difficult.
27:50You don't have to wait until you're in the towel.
27:51Because if you're in the towel, you're in the towel.
27:53And this is exactly what I've been asking from Maxayo the entire fight.
27:57The body work.
27:58Beautiful body shot there from Maxayo.
28:00He opens up the guard.
28:02He sees that he's there.
28:03It's always a left hook upstairs, left hook downstairs.
28:07He's got to come back with another body shot.
28:09I think it's there for the taking.
28:11But again, landing really effective body shots, Maxayo.
28:17There it is.
28:18Uppercut body shot.
28:19Again, if he were to land a little bit more body shots,
28:22he will break down, Mata.
28:24I don't care how strong you are.
28:26There's not enough body shots you can take.
28:30He's taken 21 minutes worth of body shots so far.
28:33But can he get to 30 minutes?
28:36Scheduled 10-rounder.
28:38Bernardo Osuna alongside Abner Mata is the three-division champion.
28:42Our combat sports specialist, Brian Campbell.
28:45And at the desk, it is Brian Custer and Joe Goosen.
28:49Ringside reporter, Jim Gray.
28:53In other words, we got the full compliment out here.
28:56The A team, bro.
28:58And I'll tell you, you can smell Joe Goosen walking in the arena.
29:01And that's a compliment, by the way.
29:03That is a compliment.
29:04You know he gifted me that same cologne that he's got on.
29:07He did.
29:08Because I told him, man, you smell so good.
29:11I got you.
29:13Is that all it takes?
29:14Just compliment Joe and end up with whatever.
29:17Oh, nice body work there from Maxayo.
29:19Counter right hand from Mata.
29:23Maxayo cannot just stand there and admire his work.
29:26No, his hands are down almost after every left hook to the body.
29:30If Mata can take those and tighten that counter right hand,
29:33he can continue to build success.
29:34Yeah, again, I keep saying that.
29:36I'm going to say I'm a penalty.
29:37But if Mata was throwing more shots,
29:40it would be a long night for Maxayo.
29:43Thank God he's not.
29:44He's just in front of you.
29:45So let your hands go, Maxayo.
29:47Get off first.
29:49Sidesteps.
29:49You're done throwing punches.
29:51You grab him.
29:51You turn him.
29:52That's it.
29:52But you're standing right in front of Mata.
29:54Well, as I mentioned, Mata's only been boxing for seven years.
30:01He only had 35 amateur fights.
30:03Maxayo, on the other hand, started at AJ,
30:05had 200 amateur fights, a former world champion.
30:08So in some ways, Mata's still learning on the job.
30:12And this is a type of performance that is going to get Mata more fights.
30:17No doubt.
30:18Stop, stop.
30:19Yeah, because obviously he was gaming this fight.
30:21He was competitive.
30:23He's there.
30:24He took some good shots, but he gave some as well.
30:26And he's still got time to really turn this fight in his favor.
30:30Yeah, we just saw it right there.
30:31He landed a beautiful right hand.
30:32And it only takes one shot, Brian.
30:34We know that.
30:38Especially in a perhaps tired area, Maxayo.
30:41That's what it seems like.
30:42That was a smart move when Maxayo started to just tour around
30:45with the head movement.
30:46And Mata says, there's no toying around
30:48in the eighth round of this fight.
30:51Maxayo carrying his speed very well
31:08into the second half of this fight.
31:12It called me crazy, but based on the body language,
31:15I believe Maxayo is more tired than Mata.
31:18Yeah, well, he's throwing a lot more punches, too.
31:20He has to go.
31:21Yes.
31:22Mata's thinking so many that you would think he would be tired.
31:26He's not withering from the body shots.
31:28So we go to round number nine.
31:30You're doing more damage with the right hand, but I need you to use it more.
31:47On the left, I need you to throw it as an opera.
31:50And then you kind of come over the top of the right.
31:52How do you feel?
31:53How do you feel?
31:54How do you feel?
31:54Good.
31:55How do you feel?
31:56Want me to stop it?
31:56No, no, no.
31:57No, no.
31:57It's round nine.
31:59This is your time right here.
32:05Derecha, uppers.
32:06Derecha, uppers, okay?
32:07The right, and the uppers.
32:08He's tired.
32:20Pícalo abajo, güey.
32:21Pícalo abajo.
32:22Está sangrando, can.
32:23Trabaja la derecha, güey.
32:25Continue to use your right hand.
32:28Excellent instructions in the corner.
32:30They're seeing what you guys are seeing.
32:31Definitely.
32:32I mean, yes, McSayo's tired.
32:34He's got two rounds to make something happen.
32:36Speaking of Mata, land a good shot.
32:39He talked about the right hand.
32:40The right hand is there.
32:41Good action, McSayo.
32:43I mean, look, McSayo is getting off,
32:46and Mata says, wait a second.
32:47Here's my right hand.
32:48I know that I have a great counter.
32:51But you cannot allow the numerical disadvantage
32:54that he's giving up here in this fight.
32:57You really haven't seen Mata go to the body much
32:59against McSayo as well.
33:00You wonder if that could change his sport.
33:02You're right.
33:02And that one time he did.
33:03He did hurt McSayo.
33:06He pointed that out, yeah.
33:08That was in the seventh round.
33:15See, there's the aggressiveness from Mata.
33:18He puts McSayo on the ropes.
33:20He puts him where you want to put a fighter,
33:22but guess what?
33:23He don't let your hands go.
33:25It's not just one right hand, Mata.
33:27There's got to be more punches than that.
33:29Off his hand.
33:29Stop, stop.
33:30No, no.
33:31There you go.
33:34Well, McSayo knows the importance of this fight.
33:36In a new division, he said one great performance
33:38could put him in position to potentially fight for a title,
33:41which is his dream, he said, to become a two-division champion.
33:46Oh, he's definitely putting that performance in there.
33:48Lock the hand.
33:49Stop, stop.
33:50And this is the type of fight where McSayo looks good enough,
33:53but you see enough holes where a champion would say,
33:55give me that guy.
33:57So that's good and bad, right?
33:58Right.
33:59Work out, work out.
33:59I mean, good performance, but again,
34:01any world champion out there would be like,
34:03yes, I want this guy.
34:06I see a lot of flaws, and one of them
34:08that I pointed out is, I don't think
34:10you can deal with the aggression,
34:13especially if the fighter's throwing punches.
34:17Speaking of McSayo.
34:19Oh, you see the angle work there?
34:20There it is.
34:21Work out, work out.
34:22Let him go, let him go.
34:22Channeling his inner Manny Pacquiao.
34:25You wasted more energy there than anything.
34:29He just did a ladder drill there, pretty much, right?
34:34Well, McSayo said he benefited greatly
34:35from the sparring with Manny Pacquiao
34:37ahead of this fight as they were both in camp together
34:39in the world-famous wild-card boxing gym.
34:51I'm going to tell the story real quick.
34:52Once upon a time with McSayo,
34:54barely started his career.
34:55I think he had two or three fights.
34:57I was already a one-time world champion.
35:00He was calling me out on social media.
35:03And I remember I tell him,
35:03slow down, buddy, slow down.
35:06But ask me right now if I want to get in the ring
35:08with excited how I'm good, man.
35:11It's too fast.
35:12What if we get the belt?
35:13All right.
35:14I might change things.
35:16Can you make 130?
35:18Yeah.
35:20That's a good question.
35:22Nice right hand for Mata.
35:24Nice.
35:25That's the footwork from McSayo,
35:27but you see Mata shaking his head.
35:30Yeah.
35:31Nice right, winner.
35:32Get that, get that, get that, get that, get that, get that.
35:34You're doing well.
35:35You need you to get to throw those shots.
35:37You don't allow him to take the initiative.
35:40You got to throw that right.
35:43That's your best shot, but you've got to let it go.
35:44You got to throw that right.
35:45You got to throw that right.
35:46That's your best shot, but you've got to let it go.
35:47Okay.
35:48There you go.
35:49There you go.
35:50Final round coming up.
35:51Okay.
35:52If you throw the left, now the right, use it as a power shot.
35:56Uppercut.
35:57Left, I mean, uppercut, right hook.
35:59Just throw it to the stomach.
36:00Can you do this or are you going to do it?
36:01Come on out, go out there and win.
36:02You can win for Mexico.
36:03He didn't knock you out.
36:04Hey, did I just say the word Mexico?
36:06One of the most popular fighters not named Canelo Alvarez has to be Isaac Pitbull Cruz.
36:23He was scheduled to take on Angel Fierro in a barn burner rematch, but unfortunately Fierro
36:29couldn't make weight, had health issues, and Brian, we're still going to get a good fight
36:34because Omar Sancido gets promoted from the undercard to take his spot on the pay-per-view.
36:38It's a great opportunity.
36:39Very battle-tested.
36:40Yes, he is.
36:41He owns a knockout over Chris Colbert, a former world champion, so it's going to be
36:44a very interesting and all-action matchup later this evening.
36:49And I think we're going to have a very action-packed 10th round here between Marc Maxallo and Jorge
36:54Manta.
36:55Marc Maxallo should be ahead comfortably on the scorecard, but he's not fighting that
37:00way.
37:01No, definitely not.
37:02He cannot leave anything, you know, to the last round and perhaps Manta landing something.
37:07Well, we asked Maxallo, are you aiming for the knockout in this fight?
37:11He says, I'm always aiming for the knockout.
37:13And you can certainly see that by the way he's opening up the spot around.
37:17He's putting himself in some danger though here.
37:20Hey, but it's great TV and it's great for the fight fans who got out here early to see
37:25the opening fight of this fight card, which will culminate in a Philippines-Mexico bout.
37:32Manny Pacquiao looking to dethrone the welterweight champion in Mario Las Teca Barrios.
37:37Ooh, power shot.
37:38Right there from his side.
37:39And that's when you know you're in the group, when you can throw that lead right.
37:44But I mean, what amazes me the most right now is just Manta's chin.
37:50I mean, he's taking so much.
37:52He's still moving both.
37:53You know, and this is the first fight in Manta's career he trained at altitude.
37:56You can see him still fresh here in the final round.
37:59Oh yeah.
38:00But there's a lot more work for him to be done in the future so he can be more active like
38:03we keep criticizing.
38:04Yeah, you mentioned, I mean, he started late in his career.
38:07He's learning on the job.
38:08So definitely a learning experience, a learning fight right here for Manta.
38:12He will be, move your head side to side.
38:15I'll tell you, he's going to be a tough out though.
38:17Yeah.
38:18Moving forward.
38:19Yes.
38:20Oh yeah.
38:21Against anyone.
38:22First time facing a former world champion, making his U.S. debut on a big fight card.
38:31So there's a lot of elements that he had to deal with, but in the end, he acquitted himself
38:36well.
38:37Yeah, he said this is not only his U.S. debut fighting, it's his first time on U.S. soil.
38:42Did he tell you it was going to do that?
38:47Maybe the Bellagio fouls.
38:49Maybe that'll be it.
38:50Keep him in front.
38:51Keep him in front.
38:52Keep him in front.
38:53Yeah, some clothes right here.
38:55Nice combination for Mark McSio.
38:58He takes a right hand.
39:00Mr. Mata Utkan.
39:02You saw McSio punch the gloves together.
39:05Oh!
39:06That's an old Manny Pacquiao emo.
39:08That's when he gets excited.
39:10He landed something like, nice, I'm here.
39:12And then he landed again.
39:14He's not caught there for Mark McSio.
39:17McSio really did get away from those body shots.
39:20Could have made a big difference in how this fight, or how long this fight ended.
39:24But you've got to give Jorge Mata a lot of credit for all the punishment he took.
39:30And as McSio celebrates with his hands raised, it's easy to see that that's the way this fight should end.
39:37One little scrap to kick us off this evening.
39:41I like how McSio goes this round two in this fight because, like you said, he was comfortably up on the scorecards.
39:47And he could have just boxed, used the entire ring.
39:50But he threw a lot in that last round.
39:52I think he threw just like he threw in the first round.
39:55If not more.
39:57This is the era of fighters taking the safe route.
40:00And when you see McSio do that, it really gets your blood pumping.
40:05Because that's the way fights should go.
40:07You're supposed to fight 30 minutes.
40:09And then he fought to the last belt, as did Jorge Mata, who really did earn himself more paydays tonight.
40:15Because if he polishes and cleans some things up, he's a different fighter.
40:20Definitely he is.
40:21He's learning a lot from this fight.
40:22There's a respect right there for McSio taking the picture with Mata right away.
40:26And I'm sure he's telling him, hey, you were tough tonight, as we all saw.
40:31And Abner, when you're on the way up, these are the type of fights that really do turn you into a better fighter.
40:39Because it's not just I'm getting guys out of there, getting guys out of there.
40:42I think I'm better than I am.
40:44This is the type of fight that's a learning experience.
40:46From both sides.
40:47Yes.
40:48From McSio and Mata.
40:49For McSio, definitely, again, a pressure fighter you're going to come across, especially in this weight class.
40:54Pressure fighters are fighters that throw a lot.
40:56You've got to use the entire ring beautiful.
40:58You've got to know how to close the gap.
41:00Side steps.
41:01You know, a lot of things that we didn't see enough from McSio.
41:04And obviously the body shot, the body effective work that we did not see.
41:09Miguel Flores is in the center of the ring with the official decision.
41:12Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action, we go to the judges' score cards.
41:20Judges Mike Fitzgerald and Jack Reese see it 100 to 90.
41:25And Judge Glenn Feldman sees it 98 to 92.
41:28All three judges in agreement for your winner by unanimous decision.
41:33Mark Magnifico McSio.
41:43The right man wins.
41:46Shutout on two of the scorecard.
41:48Mark McSio continues his path towards the world title.
41:51More action to come, but for now we send it up to Brian Custer on the set with Joe Goose.
41:55Okay, Bernardo, thank you very much.
41:58Good win for Mark McSio, former world champion.
42:0128th victory for him.
42:03What are you doing?
42:04Oh, brother, you can't believe he begegn at the game, but for you and I are coming from
42:05the title game.
42:06It's not just about Fearns playing.
42:08You could go to Becky Edwards.
42:09Ho, what house is.
42:10Your seat carries it.
42:11Hey, er, hey, your seat accessing highfield.
42:12Lots will be for freel animales.
42:13Go
