00:04Mr. Speaker, I yield one minute to the gentleman from New York, Mr. Goldman.
00:07The gentleman from New York is recognized for one minute.
00:10I thank the speaker and the ranking member, and I rise today in strong opposition to President Trump's reckless and destructive rescissions bill.
00:17The proposed $8 billion cut to global aid programs is not only a short-sighted betrayal of American leadership,
00:24but it is going to result in millions of people getting sick and losing their lives.
00:31If we continue to retreat from helping countries around the world, as this administration is doing,
00:37our adversaries like China will fill the vacuum.
00:40That makes us less powerful and less safe.
00:44But it's not just lives at risk abroad. Lives here will be lost, too.
00:49By defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, millions of Americans will no longer have access to our national emergency weather alert system.
00:58Simply put, Americans will die because of these cuts.
01:04In addition to gutting one of the last vestiges of independent journalism, which is only biased if you think the truth is biased,
01:13the Republicans are also defunding free children's educational programs enjoyed by millions around the country.
01:21I urge my colleagues to vote no.
01:23The gentleman from Massachusetts reserves, the gentlelady from North Carolina.
