During a press conference on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to NPR CEO Katherine Maher's claim that funding cuts to NPR "would be a public safety risk."
Transcript
00:00And I want to give you a chance to respond to the CEO of NPR.
00:04She's claiming that the cuts to their network will, quote,
00:07be a real risk to public safety of the country.
00:10Congress Murkowski has argued that public broadcasting stations save lives.
00:15Could you respond to these concerns?
00:17The NPR CEO said cutting NPR will be a risk to public safety.
00:21I am not sure how NPR helps the public safety of our country,
00:25but I do know that NPR, unfortunately, has become really just a propaganda voice for the left.
00:33Just a few examples for you.
00:34In 2020, NPR refused to cover, refused to cover the Hunter Biden laptop scandal
00:40and the run-up to the election.
00:41They said their assertions don't amount to much,
00:44writing they did not want to waste the listeners' and readers' time
00:48on stories that are just pure distractions.
00:50That does not sound like an unbiased opinion.
00:52That sounds like a partisan opinion to me.
00:54And this is a taxpayer-funded organization.
00:57In 2018, that same CEO that you're talking about
01:00called the president in the Oval Office,
01:02who nearly 80 million Americans elected,
01:04she called him racist,
01:06shared a photo of herself wearing a Biden for president campaign hat,
01:09serves on the board of a Soros-funded activist group.
01:12In 2020, PBS's White House correspondent at the time
01:16characterized President Trump's speech then at Mountain Rushmore
01:19as a love letter to white resentment,
01:22promoting the myth of America.
01:23In 2017, PBS devoted an entire panel talking about
01:28what it means to be woke and white privileged.
01:31In 2023, PBS's Washington Week Roundtable covered up
01:36Joe Biden's clear mental divine.
01:38That's actually quite the clip.
01:39I would encourage all of you to look at it.
01:41These are not honest news organizations.
01:43These are partisan, left-wing outlets that are funded by the taxpayers.
01:48And this administration does not believe it's a good use of the taxpayers' time and money.
01:53Ed Lawrence.
