00:00How likely is this to spread beyond the Sweda region?
00:03350 people reportedly killed,
00:05United Nations holding these emergency meetings
00:07that we're hearing so much about.
00:09How far could this really go?
00:10It already has spread, and it's spreading, you know,
00:14towards the east and towards the west.
00:18And, you know, the idea here is for Israel
00:20to create areas that are outside
00:25of the Syrian government's control
00:26and maybe even connect to the Kurdish areas
00:29currently controlled by the SDF.
00:32It's creating a destabilization
00:34where sects are allowed to rule and control areas
00:38based on ethnic background or religious affiliation
00:43rather than state government control.
00:45Israel's trying to keep Syria in the Stone Ages
00:48rather than to allow it to be a modern nation state
00:51with many ethnicities, with many religions,
00:53where the state defines a unified role for the people.
00:59Do you think there's a political risk
01:01for President Ahmad al-Sharrah in making this move?
01:05Is this going to cost him some credibility?
01:07Or do you think it actually could boost his standing
01:09with some of the minority groups?
01:11It clearly boosts his standing among Syrians
01:15because as much as Syrians are upset
01:18at what is occurring,
01:20they understand Israel has already
01:22completely destroyed Syria's air force.
01:25We have no ability to fight Israel.
01:28There's no argument about that.
01:30And no Syrian wants continued fighting.
01:33In fact, Syria has gone through extensive efforts
01:36to try to create a normalization
01:39to whatever degree that could be possible
01:41with Israel through its meetings in Baku,
01:44Azerbaijan, through Turkish mediation,
01:49through Saudi Arabia's efforts,
01:50through the United States,
01:52through Tom Barak's efforts.
01:54Syria has done everything possible
01:55to de-escalate the situation.
01:58On the world stage,
02:00most of Europe and the United States
02:02back this Syrian government
02:04and understand that the only hope for stability
02:07in the region is Ahmad al-Sharrah
02:10and the new Syrian government.
02:11So they don't support what Israel is doing
02:14and they now see Israel as the instigator,
02:17the belligerent creating the violence,
02:19the political vacuum,
02:21the instability in the region.
