A 27-year-old trader suspected of assaulting and confining his two young stepdaughters, has been remanded for seven days.

00:00A trader has been remanded for seven days on suspicion of assaulting, confining and
00:07committing sexual offences against his two step-daughters, aged five and six.
00:13The remand order was issued on Monday at the Alor Gaja Magistrates' Court to aid investigations
00:19under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001 and Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against
00:28Children Act 2017.
00:31The alleged abuse came to light when the children's 25-year-old mother took them out for a meal.
00:37Upon receiving a call from the suspect, her 27-year-old ex-husband, the eldest daughter reportedly
00:43cried in fear and refused to see him.
00:45The six-year-old victim alleged that the suspect taped her mouth shut and locked her inside
00:50a box, threatening her not to tell others about the abuses.
00:54Both victims are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.
00:59Police arrested the suspect on Sunday from a residence near the area, following a report
01:04lodged by the mother at the Rembia police station on the same day.
