A married couple has pleaded not guilty at the Alor Gajah Session Court to a charge of neglecting their two-month-old son, resulting him to be injured.

The accused, both 22 years old, entered their plea before Judge Aiza Khairuddin on Tuesday (May 13).

00:00A married couple has pleaded not guilty at the Alor Gaja session court to a charge of neglecting
00:07their two-month-old son, resulting him to be injured. The accused, both 22 years old,
00:13entered their plea before Judge Aiza Khairuddin on Tuesday. The housewife and the factory operator
00:18as legal guardians are accused of exposing the baby to harm in a manner likely to cause injury.
00:25The alleged offence took place at a residence in Taman Seripalangi between May 2 and 5.
00:31They were charged under section 31 subsection 1a of the Child Act 2001, read together with section 34
00:39of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to 50,000 ringgit,
00:46or both. The court granted bail at 10,000 ringgit for each accused with one surety and imposed
00:54additional conditions, including monthly check-ins at the nearest police station.
00:58The next court mention is scheduled for June 12.
