The mother and stepfather of a nine-year-old girl, who died from alleged physical abuse at her home in Taman Kota Laksamana in Melaka, have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations.

00:12the investigation. Ayur Kero Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohamed Suleiman issued the remand order
00:18on Tuesday, detaining the couple aged 38 and 36 until June 30 under Section 302 of the Penal Code
00:28for murder. The victim, the second of three siblings, was reportedly physically disabled
00:34and unable to walk. Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the case
00:41came to light on Monday after a private hospital doctor alerted police to possible child abuse.
00:47The girl had been brought to the hospital by her stepfather, a restaurant assistant.
00:52Medical staff found she had a broken leg and bruises on her head and body.
00:56She was pronounced dead at 9.45am on the same day in the hospital's emergency ward.
