Mathys Tel to Tottenham Hotspur: A good move?

Mathys Tel has made his loan move to Tottenham Hotspur from Bayern Munich permanent this summer. But will he be a good fit for Thomas Frank's new-look Spurs?

00:00Yeah, let's just touch on Matthias Tell specifically.

00:04Obviously, £30 million coming in the door from Bayern Munich.

00:07He obviously was on loan and they've made that permanent.

00:10Do you feel this maybe is a deal that's slightly gone under the radar?

00:13He's 20 years of age.

00:15He looks like a bright future ahead of him to be signed for those figures as well.

00:22I mean, obviously, he didn't quite work at Bayern Munich over his spell there.

00:25But, you know, he looked quite comfortable when he did come in on loan

00:29and he's certainly got this sort of dynamic style that he can play

00:32sort of across that front line as well,

00:34which could work really well for Spurs this season.

00:37Yeah, I mean, you know, we've got the price down on him.

00:39I think that was important.

00:40But what I would say, and I think probably a number of Spurs fans

00:43are perhaps in the same camp.

00:44I'm a little bit on the fence with it.

00:45I'd say the jury's still out of touch.

00:48Hard to gauge, you know, where he was at really coming in in January.

00:52Difficult time for Spurs with all the injuries, a lot of poor form.

00:55He was utilised as a sort of front man rather than off the left,

00:58which is his favoured position.

01:01So, you know, we certainly haven't seen the best of him yet.

01:03And what you would say is, you know, coming in in January,

01:05it's given him that time in terms of almost like a mini pre-season,

01:08if you like, getting embedded in.

01:11But, you know, he's an interesting player.

01:13He's an interesting player.

01:14Certainly got some talent.

01:15He's shown flashes at the European Under-21 Championships this month.

01:18Scored a couple of really, really good goals.

01:20And the same for Wilson Odebeur.

01:22I actually think Odebeur feels like he's got a little bit more talent

01:26in terms of what Spurs are looking for.

01:28You know, he's got the ability to beat a man.

01:30You know, he's extremely quick, can play off both sides.

01:34Again, don't buy injury.

01:35So, I think, you know, the two Frenchmen there certainly have got potential.

01:39But again, it goes back to that consistency.

01:42And, you know, one thing you would say with Tell is that,

01:44obviously, Thomas Frank wanted him.

01:46You know, he's not a club signing.

01:47If Thomas Frank didn't want him, he wouldn't have brought him in.

01:49So, you know, if Thomas Frank wants him,

01:51let's have a look at him in pre-season when he comes back to training

01:54in a couple of weeks.

01:55And, yeah, big season ahead.

01:57And I think there's a big season for a number of Spurs players this season

02:00in terms of, you know, can they kick on now?

02:01They're showing flashes of talent.

02:03But we need consistency and we need, obviously, results.
