Tobi believes the Lerners should be blamed for Mike Rizzo's failures.
Transcript
00:00Look, I'm not going to be a massive Rizzo defender
00:02because I think part of the reason that they got to where they are
00:06as a franchise right now is the inability of Rizzo
00:10and his development staff, his front office,
00:14to be able to draft guys and then develop them into big leaguers
00:16because there was no one to step in when Rendon left.
00:19There was no one to step in when Trey Turner left.
00:21There was no one to step in when Juan Soto was gone.
00:24So that falls on Mike Rizzo.
00:27So you're not going to hear me fully defending Rizzo,
00:29but in terms of this, absolutely, that's not on Rizzo.
00:33Look, did he make the wrong decision in signing Colin Poche
00:37and signing Lucas Sims and signing Jorge Lopez?
00:41If you asked Mike, I bet you he'd tell you,
00:44absolutely, I made the wrong decision
00:45because they're not on the ball club anymore.
00:47But did he have the resources necessary to build a winning bullpen?
00:51No, he did not.
00:53Do you think that if, be real, Nationals fans
00:56that just want to blame everything on Rizzo
00:58because I don't know that there's tons of these people.
01:00I think most people understand where this is at,
01:02but some people are just so over Rizzo.
01:05But be real.
01:06Do you think that in this offseason,
01:08when Mike Rizzo for years and years
01:10has been talking about kind of this time frame,
01:13I think when you first asked him about this rebuild,
01:16he was thinking it was going to start seeing
01:18the fruition of it come through last year.
01:21It didn't.
01:21So then he had to push the timeline back.
01:23But do you really think that in the time this season,
01:26when James Wood is in the bigs,
01:27Dylan Cruz is in the bigs,
01:29CJ, McKenzie, those guys are all here.
01:31You got Brady House knocking on the door.
01:33You had all these guys ready to go
01:35in terms of the young stars of this team.
01:37Do you really think that what he wanted to do
01:39this offseason was spend $9 million on Mike Soroka
01:42and trade for Nathaniel Lowe
01:44and that's his two biggest moves?
01:45There's no chance.
