00:00So you could just hear there from some of those impacted residents what they're trying
00:13to do in order to help the community, anything they can to make themselves useful and just
00:19to help out with so many people who have been impacted by this.
00:22But like I said, though, we do want to get to really our main story, our main event of
00:27the day, and this update in mid-afternoon there led by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other
00:33law enforcement and emergency management officials about how the search and rescue and recovery
00:39efforts are going after these flash floods.
00:42Let's listen.
00:43Thank you for being here.
00:48I just visited with some locals who live around here, including a family member of the owner
00:56of this store.
00:57I let her know that I first came to this store about 20 years ago, 21 years ago.
01:09I've been to this store every year for many years.
01:14I've seen these little campers since they were just a little bit bigger than toddlers, young
01:22kids.
01:24I've seen them grow and mature into beautiful young men and women.
01:33Nothing is as heart wrenching as hearing the stories of what the girls around here, especially
01:40the girls at Camp Mystic went through to see where they lived in one moment, where they
01:51disappeared the next moment, and were gone forever a few moments after that.
01:58I wanted these people to know, I want you all to know, the hearts of our fellow Texas are
02:06breaking every single day because of what people of this community and the surrounding area
02:11are going through.
02:13There's nothing more important in our hearts and minds than the people of this community,
02:20especially those who are still lost.
02:23I told them what we were doing, not just today, but what we are going to be doing for the days,
02:30weeks and months to come.
02:32This is what they needed to hear.
02:35They need to know Texas is in this with the people in the Hill Country right here.
02:42We are not leaving until this job is finished.
02:50The job right now, the primary job right now continues to be locating everybody who was affected
02:58by this flood.
03:00There still remain those who are missing.
03:03We have to find every single person who's missing, and that's job number one.
03:11While we are doing that job, it's important that we also be conducting other business affecting
03:17the storm.
03:19We did several things in that regard today.
03:22One is to get a better assessment about what exactly needed to be provided for the community.
03:29We took a flyover to get that assessment.
03:33I've been here for multiple times over the course of the past two decades, but multiple
03:38times over the course of just this one flooding episode.
03:40And I have a good feel on the ground of what is needed.
03:44But when you're in the air, you get a fuller perspective of how widespread, how catastrophic
03:50the damage is and what must be done to fully address it.
03:55We were able to process that better day today when we flew around.
04:01And on that fly around today, I had with me the Speaker of the House, Dustin Burroughs,
04:05who's going to speak after myself.
04:09I want to provide you with some information, some of which is just now updated.
04:15First, the numbers that I have is that there are 94 fatalities, 94 fatalities associated
04:28with this flooding event in this area.
04:32Separate from that, in other flooding events in other parts of the state of Texas, there's
04:37another 15 fatalities for a total of 109.
04:43To put this into perspective, just in the Kerr and Kendall counties alone, there are far more
04:50fatalities than there were in Hurricane Harvey.
04:54That's how catastrophic this is.
04:57I also have some updated numbers on those who are missing.
05:02First, from Camp Mystic.
05:06My information is those who are missing is down to now five campers and one counselor.
05:15Five campers and one counselor are missing.
05:16In addition to that, there is another child not associated with the camp who is missing.
05:23So for Kerr County, that would be a total of seven who are missing.
05:30In other parts of the state, there are 12 who are missing.
05:38I have a new number, however.
05:41So one thing we've been reaching out to the public about is to get better information about
05:46those who were not registered at a camp, those who were not registered at a hotel, those who
05:51may have been down here who no one really had any accounting of.
05:56And through law enforcement agencies working together, they provided me this number.
06:02Just in the Kerr County area alone, there are 161 people who are known to be missing.
06:11And again, that comes from combined law enforcement efforts, 161 known people who are missing.
06:20Know this.
06:23We will not stop until every missing person is accounted for.
06:28Know this also.
06:29There very likely could be more added to that list.
06:33One way that we were able to expand the list of those who are missing is because family
06:40members, friends, neighbors, et cetera, begin calling in and reporting them as missing.
06:45What I want to do is, once again, provide a reminder to anybody watching this that if you
06:51have a friend, a family member, somebody that you think may be missing because of this storm,
06:56I need you to call the number that I'm about to give you.
07:00It is 830-258-1111.
07:06That's 830-258-1111.
07:11If you want to go to a website address, you can go to kerrvillemissingatdps.texas.gov.
07:19I'm going to repeat it twice more.
07:22Kerrville, spelled K-E-R-R-V-I-L-L-E, no space, then the word missing, M-I-S-S-I-N-G, so kerrvillemissingatdps.texas.gov.
07:39So either call that phone number, go to that website, and provide the name and the best
07:46identification you can in the last known location of anybody that you think is missing.
07:53Know this also, if you make a prank call or provide false information, that's a crime.
08:01Do not provide false information because you're hindering our ability to undertake this investigation,
08:07hindering our ability to actually rescue and find those who truly are missing.
08:12So you better be correct when you're calling in and let us know that there is somebody who
08:16is missing.
08:18But importantly, we know that so many families are going through grief beyond anyone's comprehension
08:29right now, beyond any of us being able to walk up to them and give them the magic words
08:35that will make them suddenly feel healed.
08:38We know that they need grief counselors.
08:41We have five organizations that together are providing dozens of grief counselors for all
08:48of the affected family members around here.
08:52It's so important at times like this for family members to access that grief counseling so they
08:58can have their mental and emotional health needs addressed in what may be the most challenging
09:04time of their lives.
09:07Texas Governor Greg Abbott talking about the emotional toll these individuals
09:11are experiencing there as search and rescue efforts continue.
09:16All right.
09:17We're going to step away from this, though we do want to remind you, remember, that you
09:21can donate if you feel so compelled to join some of these relief efforts there.
09:26You can join Fox's support of recovery efforts following the devastating floods there in Texas.
09:33And your donation supports the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country's relief and rebuilding
09:37efforts.
09:38So you can visit there go down Fox slash Texas flood relief or you can get out your phone,
09:44get out your camera on the phone and scan that QR code there to support the Kerr County
09:49flood relief fund.
09:51And if you don't know by now, Fox viewers, people like you probably, you have already donated
09:57over $3 million to this effort so far.
10:03Okay.
10:04In the meantime here, I do want to take a quick commercial break as we are at the bottom of
10:07the hour.
10:08We're moving on to more, though, of these top headlines.
10:10There are a lot of them to get to when we come back.
10:13We're talking tariffs.
10:14We'll see you after the break.
10:39We'll see you after the break.
10:53We'll see you after the break.
10:55We'll see you after the break.
11:00We'll see you after the break.
11:16We'll see you after the break.
11:21We'll see you after the break.
11:43We'll see you after the break.
12:01We'll see you after the break.
12:10and welcome back here to live now from fox i'm andrew kraft let's talk about the economy right
12:25now live picture there at the white house uh well the wall street journal puts it this way
12:30that president trump's ever swerving tariff regime has taken more sharp turns this week
12:36it's how they're characterizing it well on july 7th yesterday his administration pushed back some
12:42of its most punishing duties by another three weeks to august following a 90-day delay a day
12:48later trump said the u.s will impose 50 percent tariffs on copper as well as 200 percent tariffs
12:54on pharmaceuticals fox businesses at re lawrence has it that trump announced tariffs on imported
13:00copper will be 50 percent coming into the u.s he says additional protectionary tariffs will be
13:06added on pharmaceuticals and semiconductors soon so we're seeing literally industry specific
13:13tariffs uh about to go into effect now that this 90-day pause will come to an end tomorrow though
13:20for some that pause has been extended to august the first um president trump also posting on truth
13:27social this today as you can see from the trump war room saying we will be releasing a minimum of
13:33seven countries having to do with trade tomorrow morning with an additional number of countries
13:38being released in the afternoon he says thank you for your attention to this matter so yet another
13:44release i believe in the form of letters about seven countries getting letters sent he says having
13:52to do with trade tomorrow morning saying an additional number of countries will be released in the
13:57afternoon here so in the meantime though fox news white house correspondent peter ducey has all on
14:03this and more let's listen
14:05the turbulence around the white house's trade policy not knowing anywhere for now in april president
14:12trump set a july 9th deadline for countries to negotiate new deals with the united states
14:16now the president is extending his plan for reciprocal tariffs through the end of the month
14:20they didn't make a change clarification maybe uh no august 1st they pay and everybody pays the shift
14:28comes less than 24 hours after the president initially referred to the new august 1st deadline as
14:33flexible two of the u.s.'s biggest trading partners japan and south korea hit with 25 percent tariff
14:40hikes a dozen other countries also saw their rates go up trump warning them not to retaliate or those rates
14:46could go even higher i could have been much harsher i don't want to do that we want to have
14:51relationships but but in every case they treated us far worse than i'm treating them i'm treating them very good
14:58the uncertainty also impacting businesses here at home who are still unsure of how to plan for the
15:03months ahead despite the trade war now ongoing for months inflation has been relatively steady
15:08a sign the white house says means its strategy is working we have flexibility about who we can buy
15:14from where we can choose to import from or to make things domestically ourselves instead and that
15:19gives us the leverage to create a situation in which other people have to ultimately bear the burden of
15:24these tariffs in april the president's team promised 90 trade deals in 90 days but so far
15:30just two trade agreements haven't agreed to with the uk and vietnam at the white house peter ducey fox news
15:36peter thanks so much uh let's bring into the conversation right now our friend there at the american
15:42institute of economic research dr peter earl he joins me um peter thanks for being with us here
15:47okay so that was a fast 90 days july 9th tomorrow uh 90 days is up uh well today president trump denied
15:55though changing the date for the tariff deadline to august 1st uh saying in that cabinet meeting you
16:00heard him there in that report from peter ducey that that was always the day though the executive order
16:06he signed yesterday moving the deadline from july 9th to august 1st that was an executive order he
16:12signed so the deadline was moving the pause is extended do i have that right i think so i mean
16:18that's my understanding of it i mean you know you know you can describe this as uh calculated
16:23brinksmanship um where you know tariff threats to become pretty essential tool of the administration's
16:30uh economic foreign policy um not even yet as uh as generators of revenue but for political and
16:36strategic leverage so they're moving them around a lot um i think the question that that a lot of us
16:41have it's a question i have is why haven't more nations come forward to negotiate and i mean there's
16:47a couple of possible explanations one is maybe they don't think there's an advantage to it maybe they
16:51think that trump is now in a you know in a place where he's going to change states and move things
16:56around and maybe some others think that if they can get to the back of the line you know maybe if
17:02prices begin to rise because of tariffs you know they can uh they can sort of outlast uh consumers
17:07who won't like it and trump will go back on and release some of those tariffs so it's it's kind of
17:12hard to figure out why we haven't had more come forward to make deals but um it's a very very fluid
17:17situation as as you just mentioned yeah i want to follow up on that um that was a question i was
17:22asking myself um why haven't more countries come forward why are we only talking about two deals
17:28that have been inked in these 90 days between the uk and between vietnam here is it because i'm trying
17:34to get into the psyche of some of these countries uh almost uh a hundred of them is that they will
17:40get more time eventually that these delays will be paused or extended uh and that they have unlimited
17:47limited time to work this out do you think that's what they're thinking i don't think they have
17:52so
17:53you
18:02you
18:02you
18:03you
