00:0053-year-old former nurse Jacqueline Harris had his home months after his benefits were cut because
00:10he missed an employment support allowance meeting. Errol had a history of ill mental health. In a
00:17handwritten letter found in his flat after his death, Errol wrote of the devastating impact of
00:22his depression. He wrote, I find it hard to leave the house on bad days. I don't want to see anyone
00:29or talk to anyone. It's not nice living this way. Being locked away in my flat, I feel that I have
00:35an assessment. An inquest determined that Jodie's cause of death was suicide due to failings.
00:45Could you introduce yourself please? Hi, yeah, I'm Alice from Crips Against Cuts. And tell us a bit
00:50more about why we're here today. So we are here today doing a die-in, which is a form of protest
00:55similar to a sit-in, but with more of a focus on death. We're here with Unite Community and we've
01:02teamed up to protest the bill that's going through government tonight. And tell us a bit more about
01:08why you're here personally. Why is this important to you? I'm here personally as a disabled person
01:15because the cuts have historically killed lots of disabled people, which is something that we'll be
01:22speaking about today. Even with the amendments to the bill, people in the future will suffer.
01:28People that need the universal health credit element for the benefits will suffer. This is beyond
01:35just simply disabled people campaigning for their welfare at this point. This is something that will
01:41affect everybody. And if people become disabled in the future, um, I don't think that the general
01:47public necessarily realise just how badly these cuts will affect them at this stage. Okay. Well,
01:52thank you very much for talking to us.
01:53Before his death, Malcolm Burge had written to his council to say, I have no meaning.
01:59Rest in peace, Malcolm Burge. 66-year-old Malcolm died by suicide after a significant cut.
