00:00We will refer to the fact that a lot of these people are actually going into it.
00:08It's really important because along with some of the people here, you know, I am a survivor of a suicide attempt.
00:14It was 25 years ago.
00:16Big smiles, everyone looking this way.
00:23Could you introduce yourself, please?
00:25Yeah, I'm Lara, Lara Kimbin, and I'm Project Lead for Portsmouth, for Banner Coat.
00:29And tell us a bit more about what's happening here today.
00:31So today we're announcing the route.
00:34We finally agreed the route, so we wanted to launch it in an appropriate way.
00:38So we wanted to come down to Brighton Park, because this is one of the locations that we will be walking through with the Baton on the day.
00:46Exactly.
00:47And we're joined today by the Lord Mayor and Mayoress and Councillor.
00:51Could you just elaborate a bit more on what this means for Portsmouth to be involved with the Baton?
00:57So suicide's a real issue in Portsmouth.
01:00We have far too many suicides taking place here, and we need to make sure that people know and understand that even when things are really tough in their lives, that there are alternatives.
01:11Because suicide is devastating for families and friends, and suicide is too prevalent here.
01:19And I'm delighted Portsmouth City Council was able to support the Baton of Hope coming to our city.
01:26It's vital that we talk about suicide, break the stigma, and hopefully save some lives.
01:32And Laura, perhaps could you just confirm the date that this is all due to take place?
01:37It's on Friday the 26th of September.
01:40And how do people get involved if they want to?
01:42It's on social media, so Baton of Hope, 225 Portsmouth.
01:47But if you Google Baton of Hope, it'll all come up and it'll show you all the other locations as well.
