00:00Newcastle United are finally set to make their first major summer signing. Anthony Alanga due for a medical after Nottingham Forest accepted a £55m bid for the 23-year-old winger and it marks the first time really since the takeover Newcastle United have properly strengthened that right wing position.
00:21Eddie Howe even admitted it's an area of the squad Newcastle needed to strengthen after losing Miguel Almiron in January which left Jacob Murphy as the only real natural right winger in Newcastle squad and by all accounts to be fair he did a very good job last season but needs that competition and Anthony Alanga is a notable upgrade certainly on Miguel Almiron and will provide direct competition and be a long-term successor for Jacob Murphy who's obviously 30 years old.
00:49Now he won't be around forever and Anthony Alanga still has the best years of his career ahead of him and for Newcastle it represents securing a top target we've had to be patient for that first signing through the door and look it's still not through the door yet but movement positive medical booked things like that it's all going in one direction and for Newcastle okay like I said you have to be patient but they've landed or are close to landing their top target
01:19on the right wing and Anthony Alanga brings with him and Anthony Alanga brings with him he's got youth on his side like I say his best years are ahead of him Newcastle have targeted him for well over a year but also boasts fairly respectable numbers in the Premier League he's both footed plays on the right wing naturally right footed but can score with his left can cross with his left he's got six goals 12 assists last season
01:49Nottingham Forest last season so it's a deal that suits all parties really because Nottingham Forest make a very healthy profit on a player they only paid 15 million for two years ago and then Newcastle get that player in the right wing position that they've been looking to strengthen for a long time and they view Anthony Alanga as that long-term right wing player because look 55 million it's a lot of money
02:19after Alexander Isak it's almost slightly unusual to have your two most expensive signings of all time as a Premier League club be Swedish players but such is the direction of Swedish football the young talents they're producing and yeah they're really making an impact certainly in the Premier League Alexander Isak 63 million pound well spent and obviously ties into one of the reasons why Anthony Alanga will have wanted to join Newcastle United
02:49I don't know Anthony Alanga after a very good season after a very good season but also knows the likes of Alexander Isak and Emile Craft as well and as we all know agent Will Asula who he met up with I think just last week and they sort of teased the potential signing that was just days before the news broke that Newcastle submitted that 55 million pound bid so yes positive news in regards to Anthony Alanga finally that breakthrough we're still waiting on news for James Trafford but I expect
03:19a positive update a positive update could be happening soon or certainly an update in some regard he returned for pre-season training at Burnley on Monday a deal was on the table just over a week ago and since then just failed to progress Burnley holding out for as much money as possible so if Newcastle can meet Burnley's demands that's a deal that can get done because personal terms not an issue when it comes to James Trafford Anthony Alanga should be the first player through the door
03:49and a player potentially out the door news broke last night of Leeds United submitting a proposal around 12 million pounds for Sean Longstaff and Leeds have a long-standing interest on Sean Longstaff if you've read the Gazette over the past year or so you'll know that they're a team who admire Sean Longstaff and the way Newcastle are looking at things and the way Sean Longstaff's looking at things is where you can get regular first team football at Leeds
04:19missing out on Champions League football with Newcastle but ultimately Sean Longstaff but ultimately Newcastle triggered an extension for him in December and he didn't start a Premier League game after that so
04:31in terms of actually getting back on the pitch and getting back playing enjoying his football it's a good move for him and it avoids Newcastle losing an academy player an academy graduate for nothing next summer because ultimately his contract expires next June is a new contract going to be put on the table for him just for the sake of almost making some money back and 12 million pounds has not been accepted as I'm speaking now
04:59but represents a decent decent bit of money for a player who has a year left on his contract and hasn't started a Premier League game in over six months so that is something to keep an eye on and incoming wise James Trafford want to keep an eye on Anthony Alanga should sort of go through this week and the intent for Newcastle is to have the likes of Alanga James Trafford hopefully one more in through the door
05:28by the time they're playing Celtic by the time they're playing Celtic their first pre-season game on June 19th and I'll be there at Celtic Park covering Newcastle United's pre-season opener as well as all the transfer news speculation well maybe not speculation but certainly news medical things everything coming out of the club over the next fortnight or so over on the Shield Gazette
05:58there's a new transfer update and thankfully there's been a breakthrough for Newcastle United
06:03cheers
