Concerns alleged sex offender worked on more days than listed

Concerned Victorian parents have described their shock on discovering an alleged child sex offender may have been working with children more often than initially thought. 12-hundred children are now being tested for sexually transmitted diseases after police arrested Joshua Dale Brown on child sex abuse charges. Anxious parents have found pictures of the 26-year-old at two childcare centres on days he was not listed as being there.

00:12with scores of sexual offences, now a source of dread.

00:25The 26 year old is facing more than 70 charges

00:28against eight children at the Creative Garden Early Learning Centre

00:32in Point Cook.

00:33His working history at 20 centres prompted authorities

00:36to call for 1,200 children to be tested

00:39for sexually transmitted diseases.

00:42Parents urged to check an official list.

00:45But the information isn't up to date.

00:56The centre's operator, Affinity Education, says it's now

00:59reviewing its records in detail.

01:01I just don't understand how it took so long for them

01:04to realise how many days he had been working.

01:07It's absolutely clear that the system that's meant

01:10to protect our children in this environment

01:12isn't working properly.

01:13Otherwise this would not have happened.

01:15Among the accusations against Joshua Dale Brown

01:18is the charge of recklessly contaminating food

01:21with bodily fluids.

01:22It's prompted a huge public health response

01:25but the department isn't saying how many children

01:27have already been tested.

01:29Parents have told the ABC they're worried that

01:32outdated information means they just don't know

01:35if their child needs to be tested.

01:37The other issue facing 1,200 families

01:40is how to broach the issue with children

01:43who can't fully communicate yet.

01:45I've asked them, have you seen this man?

01:48Did this man look after you?

01:50Did this man touch you?

01:55Talk to children about this in an honest, simple,

01:59age-appropriate way.
