Nelson Semedo has yet to give Wolves a decision on whether he will sign a new contract. Should the 31-year-old depart, who should be named new club captain?
Transcript
00:00A couple more shouts, Liam, you want to discuss Marshall Minetsian
00:03and Jorgen Strand-Larsen.
00:05Yeah, maybe a surprise to a couple of people to mention this.
00:10I think Minetsi would be a really good captain.
00:12I really do.
00:12I think he's a very intelligent guy.
00:16He's very easy to speak to, very easy to get along with.
00:18I think he has the best players.
00:24He wants the best for the people around him,
00:26and I think that would really help the squad and unite the squad.
00:28He speaks seven languages as well.
00:31So all of these reasons are great reasons.
00:34Again, a bit of a quieter guy, but we've discussed that already
00:37and why that can or can't be an issue.
00:40But he may not play enough is potentially the biggest problem.
00:45You need someone who's going to be playing the majority of the games,
00:47starting the majority of the games,
00:49and I'm not sure Minetsi next season will necessarily be
00:51the first name on the team sheet.
00:53I think he'll come in and out of the team.
00:54I think he'll be used when necessary.
00:55I think he's a good option from the bench as well.
00:58But I don't think that necessarily makes a captain.
01:02Actually, before I come on to last,
01:03I'm going to mention one other player in Matt Doherty.
01:07Potentially a similar situation to Minetsi.
01:10I think he's a really good character, really good professional,
01:13very demanding of the people around him.
01:14What's the best?
01:16What's to be the best?
01:17He knows the club inside out.
01:18He's been at the club for a long time,
01:19obviously 10 years prior to leaving,
01:21and now he's been back for a couple of years.
01:23Again, he may not play enough.
01:25In my opinion, he probably deserves to start the season
01:27at centre-back after we played excellently
01:29at the back end of the campaign.
01:31But Wolves have got Mosquera coming back.
01:33They've got several other centre-backs there.
01:35He may start the season,
01:38but if he finishes it,
01:39I wouldn't be surprised,
01:42but I think there's a lot of competition there,
01:43put it that way.
01:44So that's going to be another major issue
01:46for Doherty in keeping that position.
01:48But I think as a captain
01:48and someone who could do that position
01:50or do that role,
01:51I think, again, he's another really good candidate,
01:53someone that's in the mix.
01:54The problem of not playing enough is a big one.
01:57And then finally, Larson,
01:57which may surprise a few people,
01:59but I'd look to what he offers
02:02and who he is as a person.
02:04I think there's a lot of really good boxes
02:06being ticked here,
02:08but one big issue, which I'll come on to.
02:09So he speaks multiple languages.
02:12I don't actually know the exact number.
02:13Like I said, with Minetsi, it was seven.
02:15I know for a fact Larson speaks fluent English
02:17and fluent Spanish,
02:18but he does speak,
02:19I think he understands Italian.
02:21I think he speaks a few other languages as well.
02:22So he speaks multiple languages,
02:24which is great for communication,
02:25great for getting along with people.
02:26He does get along with everyone in the squad.
02:29He's a relatively big character.
02:32We all know he's got that big friendship with Andre,
02:34which was an unexpected turn of events.
02:37So all of these reasons
02:38are really great reasons for him to be a captain.
02:42There's a couple of small issues.
02:44Similar to Jao Gomez,
02:45him being 24,
02:46Larson's 25.
02:48Again, not a massive problem,
02:49but I think worth mentioning.
02:50He's also only been in English football for a year.
02:53And obviously been in the Netherlands and Spain
02:55and obviously Norway
02:56at the very beginning of his career before that.
02:58And then the big problem here,
03:00we talk about positions,
03:02we talk about centre midfielders,
03:03we talk about centre backs.
03:04As a striker,
03:06is that the right person to be a captain?
03:08Because it puts a lot of extra pressure on you
03:11when you've already got the massive burden
03:12of needing to score goals already.
03:15And I'm not necessarily sure
03:17that he needs that extra pressure thrown on top of him.
03:19Similar to Jao Gomez,
03:20does he need to step back
03:21and focus on his football?
03:23Is he someone that can be in that leadership group
03:25and be in that group of generals,
03:27if you will,
03:28behind another captain
03:29and maybe work his way up to that position?
03:32But I think it was worth mentioning him anyway.
03:34But as you said from the very beginning,
03:36the problem Wolves have got
03:37is of all these people we've spoken about,
03:39there is no obvious position
03:41or obvious person for the role.
03:43And that's Wolves' biggest problem.
