Wolves outline summer plans with key departures on the horizon for Vitor Pereira’s side

Wolves are quietly laying the groundwork for a promising future.  With Vítor Pereira steadying the ship in the Premier League, attention is already turning to what could be a pivotal summer for the club. We spoke with Charlie Haffenden of BirminghamWorld about the club’s ambitions and what lies ahead under Pereira’s leadership.

00:19Plans are being made to strengthen key areas

00:22And build a squad capable of pushing higher up the table next season

00:27There's a growing sense of stability and purpose at Molyneux

00:30And if the summer goes to plan Wolves fans could be looking at the start of an exciting new era

00:36I spoke with Charlie Haffenden of Birmingham World about the club's ambitions

00:40And what lies ahead under Pereira's leadership

00:43Charlie looking at Wolverhampton Wanderers and let's start with the summer window

00:52It's obviously going to be quite a bit clear out we've mentioned a few times

00:55It looks like some big names are going to probably depart this summer

00:59Mateus Cunha has come out and himself addressed the sort of comments made in an interview

01:06Saying that he wants to fight for titles

01:08And I think it was sort of dragged out of proportion by a few news outlets

01:12Saying he's completely done etc

01:15And it was made to look as if he was that

01:17And then he sort of came out and sort of downplayed it a little bit

01:20He obviously wants to take the next step in his career

01:23You know he's gone away with international duty and scored for Brazil

01:26When the last player who played for Wolves scored for Brazil

01:30You know the great nation they are is quite unbelievable really

01:35But you know he's clearly a player who throughout the season

01:37And in the back end of last season as well

01:39Has been a level above most of the rest in the group

01:43You know I think he knows that

01:45I think Wolves fans know that

01:46I think Wolves players know that as well

01:48He's been unbelievable but you know how

01:52It's a bit of a difficult situation when they have to

01:55Probably part ways with him this summer

01:57I mean it's quite an awkward one when

02:00You have him coming out and saying he wants a challenge for titles

02:03And then Wolves obviously focus on avoiding the drop

02:06So there's a big difference there

02:08And you know Fosin need to make sure that it's another player who

02:11Yes they've taken him to the very top

02:13You know the likes of Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto

02:16The next step is actually replacing him

02:18Yeah I think it's an inevitability sadly for Wolves fans

02:22That he will be leaving this summer

02:23Whether it's taken out of proportion or not

02:25In that interview with I think it was the Guardian

02:27He's going to go isn't he

02:30There's a release clause for a reason

02:32I think the reason he signed that new contract in January

02:34Was just to try and

02:35One for Wolves fans to show that he was committed

02:39Until the end of the campaign

02:40Another one just to kind of reward him for his fine form

02:43Give him a better pay rise until end that season

02:45To ensure that the release clause is of worthy value

02:49It's going to be a record sale for Wolves when he does eventually go

02:52Acuna he's got so much respect for the football club as well

02:55For the supporters

02:55He wants to make sure he leaves it on good terms

02:58He didn't want to leave them in the lurch in the relegation battle

03:01He wants to make sure he can make his impact towards the end of the season

03:04Of course then getting sent off against Bournemouth

03:06Being suspended for four matches

03:08Not ideal in that situation

03:10But he still did score some crucial goals after his contract

03:13And I think it's crucial that he did stay on until the end of the season

03:17In the summer though I think it is a different story

03:20Whether he's on about wanting to win titles with Wolves or not

03:23He's probably not going to do it at the football club

03:25Let's be realistic here

03:26At least in the next couple of years

03:28So he should be moving on to a bigger club

03:30As much as that may pain Wolves fans

03:32Whether it goes to the Premier League

03:34At the top end of the standings

03:35Or if he goes across to Europe

03:37I think awaits to be seen

03:38But £62.5 million

03:39Probably good for all parties to be honest

03:42Wolves can use that money that they've not really had recently

03:44To go and spend it on other players

03:46Whether Fosun allow that to happen

03:48We know their strategy is kind of against reinvesting

03:51But they should be doing that

03:52And hopefully they can do that

03:53Because Wolves otherwise

03:54Will probably be in another relegation battle

03:56And yeah obviously

03:58Yeah so Moskera

03:59You know signing a contract extension as well

04:02Quite an important signing to get him across

04:04Hasn't played many minutes for Wolves

04:06Obviously with that injury very early on in the season

04:08And then obviously Emmanuel Agbedou comes in

04:11And he's made a real difference at the back

04:13But it does show how important defensive signings are

04:16As much as attacking

04:17Wolves were leaking way too many goals

04:20Under Gary O'Neill

04:21And that's probably what inevitably got him

04:24The sack in the end

04:25Yeah that's inevitably what got Wolves

04:28So near the bottom of the standings as well

04:29They were still scoring a fair amount of goals

04:31Not a ridiculous amount

04:33But a decent amount nonetheless

04:34Maybe mid-table numbers

04:35But the conceding was worse than Southampton

04:38Will make such a difference

04:39And a back three of Toti

04:40Moskera and Agbedou

04:41Well I think that's a pretty cool prospect for Wolves fans
