Nathan Judah and Liam Keen return to your televisions. This week they're looking at six Wolves players - old and new! - and asking what targets they should each have for their 2025/26.
Transcript
00:00Rodrigo Gomez, 25 appearances in his first season.
00:03I think we all would have been very happy with that
00:05when we first saw him in a shirt in pre-season.
00:07Very, very exciting.
00:10But out of those 25 appearances, plenty of those were one minute,
00:13two minutes, three minutes here and there.
00:14Only seven starts, seven Premier League starts
00:16in those 25 appearances, Liam.
00:19Two goals to show for it.
00:21And someone, like I say, I think we've discussed it before
00:23on the Wolves' body, not disappointed so much
00:27with his introduction because I think
00:29obviously this was a damaged side for the first half
00:32of the season as well.
00:32And sometimes if you're a youngster, you're trying to adapt
00:35to a new way of life and get caught up in it a little bit.
00:38So the fact that he wasn't, he was maybe put aside for that.
00:40He's not been hurt by that.
00:42And I think you've still got that enthusiasm.
00:44You've got someone who's trying to find a role on this side
00:46who's very versatile, played on the right, played at left,
00:50played defensively, played offensively as well,
00:52higher up the pitch.
00:53In terms of Rodrigo Gomez going forward,
00:56is it very much just a straight battle between him
00:58and someone else we're going to talk about in Hugo Buena?
01:01Or do you see his role as becoming a little bit more consistent
01:04in a different area of the pitch?
01:07Yeah, the fact that he can play on the right and the left,
01:09I think definitely helps him in many ways equally.
01:12It may go against him because he's not necessarily
01:15going to nail down a position in the team.
01:17I don't see Rodrigo Gomez being an out-and-out starter
01:20every week next season.
01:23But I do think he's got the quality to impact it from the bench,
01:28to come in on occasions when needed, like midweek games, cup games,
01:33and still have a really important role as a squad player in this team.
01:37And that's not because he isn't talented enough to start.
01:39I think it's that he needs time to adapt still.
01:42He's had a good first season,
01:43but you look at the numbers he was able to put up
01:46and three goals, two of them in the Premier League,
01:48and the really damning one, zero assists.
01:51That's the thing he has to impact and change
01:53because if you're going to play wing-back in progress system,
01:56you're essentially a winger
01:57and you need to have better numbers going forward.
02:00Nelson Samedo has not had great numbers.
02:02That's a criticism we've put to him.
02:05I think you have to be relatively similar
02:06in that criticism for Rodrigo Gomez.
02:08But he's a player that's full of enthusiasm.
02:11I think he's got good quality
02:12and I think he will do well for Wolves next season.
02:16But he has to start to challenge more seriously for a start.
02:19We always knew that he was going to be someone
02:21that took a little bit of time
02:22and challenging more seriously to push that starting position
02:25would be the right step for him to take.
02:28But he's got a few more steps, I think,
02:29to take before he probably gets there.
